how do you follow-up last years monster mr.spock? of course with something even more ghetto, more dirty and more fun. lezgo is the 2nd collaboration between justin martin and ardalan, a curious bay area duo of master and apprentice that seems to be magic in the studio. this time they delve deep into the footwork meets house sound delivering cool r&b respites inside mega booty grooves for 3 minutes then letting down the hammer on the kick drum in the finale that kills every time. this is the type of tune that gets everyone moving and smiling and makes you wish you had 10 of them just like it in your bag. i ve played this to every type of crowd from techno chin scratchers to college kids, festival crowds, london know-it-alls, fund raising 40+ year olds, deep house heads, post dubsteppers, basement afterpartiers, hip-hop crews, disco kids and straight up ravers. it works everywhere and thats the sign of a big tune.

one of the stand out moments and most in demand club tracks from the simon baker >traces< album returns in remixed form, alongside the vinyl edit of simons original. its taken us a while to get pokerflat head honcho and all round german house music legend steve bug on board for a remix, but its worth the wait as he delivers a lesson in refined, deep house music. next up burnski and robert james deliver a mammoth, hypnotic jam that twists and turns for 10 minutes and still leaves you wanting more.

it seems like hawkinson has drawn his inspiration from the lush crackling whispering of the woods. akiko seems to see it the same way and with her remix makes a compelling overall package of the second 12 inch by phunkit. >unterholz< is a crisp driving, deep techno roller with playful percussion elements, subtle functionally-held choral dubs and a bass line drily humming to itself. >stillleben< crackles bone-dry and elegantly at the same time, the light melodic phrases form a great contrast to the massive wall of bass. akiko is tinkering a little organic dust monster out of >stillleben<. definitely superb how she is breathing her principle of life into the whole theme, so that you almost wish the track would never end.

the advanced human - >air< ep is the latest deep offering from gynoid audio. rich with dub chords, atmosphere and reflection it is truly a celebration of living.....and breathing. the original offers up rolling dub keys surrounded by intricate percussion and a drive aimed at the dance floor. the ground loop remix finds itself rich with space and atmosphere while still lending from the dub influence of the original. markus suckut brings to the table a hypnotic dub influenced version to die for, all pushed a long nicely by a fat, low slung bassline and held in tension by the comings and goings of timely atmospherics. the raiz boys, as expected, move things back in a peak time direction by stepping up the rolling dub chords and putting the funk in the percussion. air. breathe. enjoy.

>ibara: river crossing< ist die erste compilation des new yorker deep-house-labels yoruba records, das gemeinsam vom künstler und produzenten osunlade und soul jazz records betrieben wird. osunlade, der nebenbei priester der afrikanischen ifa-religion ist, brachte für dieses album zusammen, was zusammengehört: deep house, african funk, nu soul, jazz und broken beats aus aller welt. mit dabei sind mitglieder der yoruba-familie wie südafrikas soul-superstar kb, nadirah shakoor, santos und djinji brown, aber auch andere musiker. osunlade arbeitete u. a. für 4 hero, salif keita, ms dynamite, cesaria evora, incognito und roy ayers. yoruba records dient ihm als plattform für seine lieblingskünstler und als eine art laboratorium, um den sound seiner vorfahren weiterzuentwickeln. alle tracks wurden exklusiv für dieses album eingespielt.
