next up on our album manoeuvres we head back up to sheffield. hiem are back with their 3rd album, the galactic cornucopia that is hotspace. it is a fine follow up to the 2013 escape from division street released here on nang. hiem consist of dynamic duo of nick eastwood & bozzwell (he was the live vocalist for -the all seeing i- who scored a worldwide hit with the beat goes on in 1998). we have always thought of hiem as one part grown-up dance pop, one part fine 80 s tinged songs and one part slightly weird and quirky. the third album doesn t disappoint managing to cram all those descriptions (and more) across ten fine songs.

die pet shop boys, die bei der brit-award-verleihung am 18. februar 2009 mit dem preis für ihren außergewöhnlichen beitrag zur musik ausgezeichnet wurden, haben drei der elf songs gemeinsam mit xenomania geschrieben. die übrigen stücke entstammen der feder von tennant/lowe, bei »all over the world« hat tschaikovsky einige ideen beigesteuert.
als vorbote des neuen albums »yes« wurde am 13. märz 2009 die single »love etc« veröffentlicht. die pet shop boys beschreiben diesen song als »post-lifestyle-hymne«, die mit nichts, was sie jemals zuvor gemacht haben, vergleichbar ist.
chris lowe äußert sich begeistert: »dieses album ist beeindruckend. es war toll, mit xenomania zu arbeiten!« und neil tennant findet: »es ist ein fantastisches, weit gefächertes popalbum.«
auf mehreren songs ist johnny marr als gitarrist zu hören, die orchesterarrangements auf »beautiful people« und »legacy« stammen von owen pallett (last shadow puppets, final fantasy).

two of the best tracks off the brasileira lp get an updated dancefloor treatment by selvagem, carrot green and joakim. those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of cantico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiura) on the dancefloor know it s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didnt make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the brasileira material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix lamento africano/rictus? it would be the perfect package.
