the third release from wavefreform again comes to us from the east, and this time around it marks a reformation of sound for both the label and the artist. half of the long-running georgian duo greenbeam & leon, boyd schidt is a producer with over a decade of work already under his belt whose first releases emerged in 2007. as a solo artist, his career dates to 2010 with digital releases on georgia’s front rec, fvf records, and emote music, and a track on the new vinyl compilation from studio r°. with the hard, broken kick pattern, elevated tempo, and nods to electro, the a-side ‘phantom’, a collaboration with subex, is a change of pace for the artist and the hardest thing yet to emerge from wavereform. dubwise use of effects shows the same hands still at work, but the sound elements, granulated blasts of static and drop-based structure of the track hold strong parallels to the rejuvenated techno sound currently emerging from the uk. the b-side, ‘structure’, recalls the previous work of the artist: subtle, building dub techno rich in detail and with the dancefloor firmly in mind. there is clear experience at work here with his deliberate deployment and manipulation of elements as the track struts along while enveloping the listener in its smaller details. as it pauses and takes an extended breakdown, the details rush forwards, but it finds renewed force to power itself to the close. coming in this case from an established producer with a long history, this kind of control is not surprising, but it is more indication of the riches of the east that have yet to be discovered by audiences worldwide.

bryan black is back on clr with a new black asteroid ep, this time in close collaboration with vocalist wesley eisold of the band cold cave on the featured songs entitled black moon and here comes fear.

after the success of their first release charmin are back with another high quality wax. this offering showcases the talents of florist and close friend of the imprint tilman, all pressed up on heavyweight vinyl with a lovingly designed cover. the ep kicks off with “proof nothing” which is a statement of intent. deep, churning piano chords overlaid with delayed vocal samples all underpinned with a solid beat and deep bass. next up “raw” does exactly what it says on the tin. this is a stripped down thumper with crunchy claps and an infectious groove. “once again” has a looser, more percussive feel to it with machine gun snares rattling off overt the top of a killer chord line. bringing things to a close is “mood swings” which builds brooding atmospheres and eerie vocal snippets. all in all this ep carries on the good work of this exciting new label. charmin continues its journey to bring you uncompromising, underground house music of the highest order.

ltd repress, whoever knows of toi toi musik will know they have become synonymous with underground quality and for keeping things close and personal for their events and agency. well, with their new label its no different they stay very true to their identity (a good mix of english and german) and their quality. the 1st ep is produced by the legendary mr g. inspired after playing live at one of their events he wrote the track toi toi, which was later released on djulzs bassculture label. as a consequence, his relationship with the couple is so personal he nurtured them to open their own label and offered them 3 tracks for tt01 called much love ep. the 4th track is a remix by hello? repeat co-owner daze maxim, who has been a guest resident for the party for nearly its entire existence.

it s only so long before liam geddes becomes a name you ll start hearing on the worldwide underground stage. having already churned out a number of uncompromisingly deep house tracks over the past couple of years, he comes armed with another exceptional ep on mil - the third release on the new music is love sister label - that further demonstrates his genuine dynamism as a producer. the with closed eyes ep should win this very talented producer the recognition his fresh beat work deserves into the wild gets proceedings underway, a ripping bassline paves out over rattling percussion shakes while oscillating dream like jingles play out during the course of the track. chopped vocal samples are introduced and tease against the shuffling drums which elevates the track with real drive and groove. close ya eyes for the journey packs the same layer of heat with its similarly groove-heavy bassline - a staple of geddes well-crafted sound. firmly footed, intermittent chimes seep into the track and are complemented by siren-like chords which grow truer in presence, until a hypnotic vocal snippet fulfils the deep terrains of the track. a saint is a tumultuous techno-fused roller with it s rip-roaring bassline and percussive loops which rhythmically swing out over shuddering pads, sustained chords and a cut up female vocal, brining a twist of colour to the arrangements of the track. there s a keen sense of tension and release, elevating this above your average and confirms geddes does depth and darkness with real conviction. broke will surely prove a high point for any decent dj set, and sounds like a cut you d expect from someone like delano smith. strings faintly play out over looped key chimes and a funk-like riff, while ticking hi-hats and a careful use of vocal sample gives the track extra heat, each element powered by the rumbling bassline.

arkita is a project borne from the joint collaboration of synkopheit and madalba. its objective is to find some common ground between the different musical trends of these two artists

a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.

breathtaking contemporary spiritual jazz from south africa ... when tumi mogorosi composed this suite for jazz musicians and opera vocalists he had never heard the previous successful attempts by donald byrd, max roach or mary lou williams to combine these seemingly unfriendly aesthetics. tumi, born in 1987 and already an accomplished drummer on the joburg scene, was at the time studying music at the tshwane university of pretoria where he became close friends with opera singers working on the same campus. so unlike some of his us peers tumis beliefs are not religious.

nelistening back, ‘interlude’ will feel like the perfect opening to ‘skylax’. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason’s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, ‘the love’ will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason’s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. ‘old dayz’ touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, ‘rawkicks 2’ shows jason’s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. ‘cut b’ contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, ‘definition’ slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track’s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of ‘skylax’, ‘john blue’ takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. ‘last night’ is a track more reminiscent of jason’s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the ‘mastercuts’ and ‘lovedits’ series which fans will recognize from the ‘lost cuts’ records, with ‘lovedits 7’ and ‘mastercut 5’ respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. ‘bb’ brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason’s debut album ‘313.4.ever’, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don’t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with ‘skylax’ on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

argentinean musician and producer fernando pulichino joins the cynic fray and brings with him a storied reputation that includes a multitude of releases as fernando for the likes of international feel, leng, internasjonal, redux, under the shade, nang, and bearfunk. in addition to his solo work, pulichino has been an integral cog in the 2020 soundsystem, a live act headed by ralph lawson that have been known to close out proceedings at sonar. the stereo drive 12 inch is a fine example of fernandos style, all clean production values with subtle hints of proto house and balearica respectively running through the title cut and b sider -sunset strip-. another killer 12 inch from felix dickinson s revitalised cynic label.

the cellar boyz *pay me* is taken from ben cenacs timeless cozmic house ep on thug records. pay me which was recorded in 1986 is the only track from the cozmic house e.p that had available parts. the stems for deeper & deeper, seems to me & who loves you were never recorded. this was due to the fact that all of bens projects through out the 90s were tracked midi only at mix down, with only the vocals being recorded to tape! thug would never have had the opportunity to release ben cenacs cozmic house 12 inch if it had not been for simoncino. simoncino did all the a&r for the record. a gift not only for thug but any fans of ben cenacs amazing productions. with that in mind, simoncino has provided 2 remixed versions of pay me, alongside a remix from close friend nicholas!
