ma spaventi, a roman, now based in amsterdam, has been around for a minute, his trio r-a-g (with aroy dee and gijs poortman, a.k.a. gstring) has been recording refined, classicist house and techno on an all-analog kit since 2010. marked by tough drums, swirling pads, and a willingness to veer into pure, beatless ambient territory, their records are formally purist without scrimping on a sense of mystery. spaventis solo work so far has suggested that he may be the tough guy of the bunch.

borai returns to helm tasteful nudes’ third release, *last time out*, demonstrating his techno chops in two different ways. the title track is all techno muscle, banging out a gigantic piano riff to match the slamming percussion and hypnotic undercurrents. *midnight run* imagines a race through a pitch black city, layering stark pads and sparkling riffs atop its gas-guzzling bass line. both whip the dance floor into shape.

after 10 years of existence in berlins ambitious music scene, golden gate club has achieved cult status in his own right through out the world. it is a very special place with its own living soul. yet a small venue it shows a high profile, distinct character and a very original and authentic spirit. to manifest this state, the golden gate club establishes ist own record label >ggcr<. the opening release carries the characteristic name >golden era< by swedish dj and producer anders hellberg. still a new member of the underground, his style strikingly represents what golden gate stands for. namely an impassioned, intense and organic sound with high recognition value. four tracks with the same ingredients but different prescriptions. an analog production through and through, with 303 based rhythms and blazing 80s pads. very intense and haunting but still guarding a sweet and hypnotic atmosphere.

canadian producer kevin mcphee made his idle hands debut back in 2011 with sleep and house 44 over a year on, he returns to the label with two floor friendly, house leaning cuts. a-side unwind takes the bumping bottom end and swung drums of early sneak and pairs it with punchy horn stabs and an infectious vocal hook. b-side, a jam, is slightly more subdued but equally as jacking with mcphees trademark loose percussion providing the foundation for lush uk house pads and a heavyweight bassline.

opener getting run down loops up a nagging hip hop sample over skittering dukey beats and washes drifting pads and spacey keys over the top for a hypnotic late night groover. reach out goes at a calmer pace, but revolves around intense builds, insistent polyrhythms and detroity riffs for a bit of hypnagogic drama. on memix duties, om unit does what you hope hes going to do, injecting reach out with seemingly infinite swathes of space and bottom end, looping about at his own pace, but with that constant sense of om unit purpose. nphonix closes out proceedings with a tweaky, rubbery acid style workout that will find friends in bass and house camps.

wilde calm records is proud to present some say, a recently discovered song from the archive of arthur russell. the track was produced and mixed by arthur in 1985 for a solo project of steven halls that was originally intended for release on rough trade records. legendary disco producer bob blank recorded and engineered the project at his connecticut-based studio. some say features arthurs classic cello basslines, cracking boom bap drums and stevens floating vocals and synth pads. in true arthur fashion, the song abrubtly stutters, slinks and lurches halfway through for steven to complete his buddhist pop mantra. the b-side features an extended rework of some say by pocketknife using arthurs boss dr. rhythm dr-55 drum machine.

after sides from matthew burton, seuil and albert schwartz, sammy dees ultrastretch label returns in 2013 with volkan akin. a regular presence at berlin institutions like club der visionäre, akin has been slowly rolling out his brand of prickly, spaced-out club tracks since the end of the last decade, both under his own name and as v for volkan. but if volkan akin has up until now been unfamiliar beyond germany, his ultrastretch debut, voltage, featuring an absolute beast of a ricardo villalobos remix, stands to turn more than a few heads in his direction. densely packed and intricately constructed, voltage is an extended groove you can get lost in. cymbals ring softly amidst whirrs of faintly melodic clicks, scratches and voices. but at the center of akins churning, percussive arrangement lies a warm and weighty kick sure to keep dancers pinned to the floor. like so many great perlon records, voltage can be taken as a deeply considered exercise in sound design or as a deadly club track simultaneously, with akins musical sophistication and knack for an inviting beat working hand-in-hand. the original mix spends over 11 minutes unraveling, but as you fall further into the swirl of akins interlocking rhythms, youre likely to stop counting. a shorter constant voltage mix evokes sunrise, pulling back the originals heft to reveal gorgeous pads and hints of organic rhythm. ricardo villalobos, sammys longtime label mate at perlon and a producer who likely needs no introduction, digs deeper into the thump at the heart of voltage on his acdc remix. focusing on the originals wisps of melody, villalobos turns in a warm, zoned-in remix that feels of a piece with the singular techno trips found on his recent lp dependent and happy

with local talk release no. 30 we are moving further into territories of straight up no fuss dance floor action. already having releases on dirt crew recordings, murmur & hypercolour elef knows a thing or two about delivering jacking tracks. wake up call comes in two versions. the original version is a kick & snare pattern driven monster track with heavy arpeggios and deep pads. on the flip brennan green doesnt hold back either. the main melodic pattern together with percussions is unleashed straight on and as the tracks evolves he adds tr-303 lines making the track even more epic. as elef described the remix as perfect for a panorama bar set. the remix is worthy enough based on that one side alone.
