mowar has reached its 10th release! this release heads into a darker direction with four solid and mental techno movers. searle is a new name to join the mowar ranks, but his sounds are pure, raw with a pinch of dark ambience. the record opens with the title track mind transfer, which brings a raw oldskool 808 feel layered with hypnotic basic channel-like chords and a subtle but most effective acid line. modern love s claro intellecto on remix duty turns the track into a slow moving warehouse monster, throbbing its way to a drugged chicago-esque jacking feel yet retaining the original darkness of mind transfer. on the flipside succubus lives up to its ominous title. this track is a dark hypnotic affair with fierce kickdrums piercing through an obscure sound palette of eerie pads and deep basses. razor sharp modulated noise then invades the whole thing turning the track into a punishing dark workout. finally unauthorized brings a more edgy and experimental sound to the whole, starting of with a dubby bassline and graveyard shift pads, but once the piercing hi-hats kick in, the track shifts to straightforward almost cristian vogel-like mental techno. by the way… searle is a new moniker of mowar frontman franco cangelli.

this ep was formed with a concept in mind that involves a natural phenomenon occurring in various/different fields of science and nature - anti-parallelism. as the word suggests, anti-parallelism describes the natural relationship between two occurrences, objects or even non-material things, that are virtually identical and yet oriented in different directions. during the time the music was made i was researching natural phenomenons like this one. naturally, this became part of the nucleus, fabric and inspiration for this work. in genetics, for example, if the antiparallelity is corrupted during the process of dna replication it is called a mutation. this mutation can be anything from totally inconsequential to critical for the survival of the whole living organism. a double helix of dna contains two helixes, that are naturally anti-parallel to one another. in physics this could be two of the same objects moving through space and time in opposite directions - just like the instruments or parts of a beat in electronic music production. so metaphorically speaking,anti-parallelism holds a natural balance to keep it safe and stable. although this might sound all very conceptual and theoretical this music is obviously just what it is - it is not intended to teach math, physics or biology in any way. the above mentioned aspect has simply found its way through my head and might have led to a piece of music that somehow, at least for me, is connected to these thoughts. it might evoke something very different for you.

the londinium ep is the latest release on uzuri recordings and welcomes chicago skyway back to the fold. not that hes been away too long, having produced a full 12 release and contributed to the from chicago turin amsterdam & dublin with love ep just last year. we also welcome hakim murphy to the label – with his credentials it was only a matter of time before our paths crossed!as the title suggests, this release was inspired, conceptually at least, by our nations capital, and its apparent that sean has spent quite enough time here to get the gist of the place, with the b-side tracks entitled traffic and noise, respectively. im sure he loves it here, really.musically, he keeps it closer to his windy city heart – very clearly reflecting his roots, in fact. as a dj and club promoter in mid 90s chicago, sean frequently shared the decks with some of the citys biggest talents at that time – cajmere, gene farris and spencer kinsey (gemini) among them, and one could say that theres an audible relief flavour to a-side, london streets, with its stripped-back, hypnotic stomp. its fitting that hakim murphy remixes the track, coming from similar roots within chicagos scene, and his own reworking retains the drawn-out essence of the original but brings a whole new hips-and-shoulders groove to the track.

numbernin6 is no new comer to the dubstep scene, but this is his first record for london label smokin sessions. the recordings are blissful and floaty, as you would expect from smokin sessions and really shows off what numnernin6 can do when he goes deep. the whole ep is masterfully produced and you can really hear these tracks have been given a lot of attention. i cant pick a favourite, but all 3 are a great listen. sit back, relax and spark it up rude eye!

excellent 4 track vinyl with fantastic deep house. it gets started with >spring loop<, a track that looks to its name both for feeling and production sense. of course that sensuous vocal sample that gets drawn through it wouldnt do the job on its own, but rau knows that too and surrounds it with a warm, humid bassline and his always changing and snapping drums to keep it in the pocket for the whole 5 minutes. even though the groove on the a1 is already heavy for him, he goes deeper yet with >swearing (vinyl version)< that jamaican vocal is something so classic that we wont spoil it here, but the pumping house beat and piano stabs he winds around it give even more poignancy to the lyrical substance… we are pretty sure that by the time he finally echoes the vocal out late in the track there will be some hands in the air for this one

the recent death of dj mehdi was a tremendous loss for the dance music community as a whole, and a particularly devastating moment for the producers close friend a-trak. the new york city-via-montreal dj offers a remembrance of his longtime cohort on his remix of the raptures glorious >how deep is your love,< a single that was musically informed by mehdi before his untimely passing.

having released his booty ep on mobilee earlier this year, ray okpara has quickly become a very popular member of the mobilee extended team. with releases in the past on labels such as oslo, get physical and especially on his own label ama recordings, he is well renowned for his signature style house groove and soulful flavour, and hes bringing his sound back to mobilee once more with his brand new ep blues me blues. coming as both an original and instrumental, blues me blues,is atmospheric and hypnotic, sprinkled with a beautiful vocal. meanwhile bounce to this will wake the dance floor out of any kind of hypnosis with its punching bass line and hip house vocal. lastly hideout is the deeper and calmer compliment, balancing out the whole ep and providing a satisfying amount of variety. enjoy!

rhein-main based tag team diggler & franksen go back some way in the history of frankfurts electronic scene. around 2000 diggler honed his reputation as a master of dubby techno for a whole decade. his early tracks like >boogiemonster< are blueprints of cool. period. today he is still rollin out crisp and deep techhouse beats that combine musical finesse, compositional tension and club appeal. having released about six albums and countless tracks and remixes for labels from raum…musik to cocoon and from resopal to level non zero, diggler is still on the hunt for the proper dose of beat hypnosis.
for their >morning blue ep< diggler teams up with frankfurts radio legend franksen who hosts germanys eldest dj show, todays you fm clubnight. franksen saw a string of releases over the last two years, collaborating for labels such as suara, dieb.audio, kommmitmusik, plastic city and more.

somewhere over western europe, an un-identified falling object crashed landed causing a massive bang, and a ginormous banana shaped smoke cloud. frederic, a local artistic young chap was so inspired by this hilariously funny giant cloud that covered the whole sky as far as he could see, he ran indoors to take cover, and wrote a little summer step d&b beat, called >laughing at clouds< – which seemed to draw a lot of attention. out of the studio window, frederic could see what seemed to be a pink giraffe giving it some serious head-nodding action. by the second drop leonard (the pink giraffe) was dancing so heavily that he caused a small tremor somewhere over in the states, where young up & coming producer melo seemed to pick up the transmission. while in his sonic laboratory he managed to transfer his latest project (affirmation) through the current, where frederic decided to make his first remix project, which pretty much made leonard pass out after all the summer stepping….

deep series is back! the third deep series features a fascinating symbiosis of two individuals: ekkohaus and santos resiak. the two of them started to work on this project in 2009 and are now finally ready to share it with the rest of the world. during that time, ekkohaus made a splash with a whole array of top releases e.g. 2020 vision, circus company and cargo edition. santos resiak was also having a blast – e.g. after his last release at mothership. the three tracks on the new deep series fuse together the artists still unbroken enthusiasm for deep sounds in one melodic common denominator. >thanx but no< is a homage to the saxophone (btw: played live by robert wuerz). heavy with groovy loops the track creates a free floating ambience reminiscent of a jazz club in new orleans or a night club on an early morning in berlin.

very welcome reissue of the original sire records release of dinosaur s kiss me again from 1978. written and produced by disco legends arthur russell and nicky siano and weighing in at a heavy 13 minutes long, this is a truly hypnotic disco odyssey which takes you on a curling and tension-filled journey through funky piano riffs, signature scratchy guitar work by talking heads supremo david byrne, tumbling drums, stabbing horns and of course mr russell s swirling atmospheric cello solos. all this is held together by myriam valles beautiful yearning vocal performance until the crazy mind-blowing orgasmic final minutes where david byrne goes wild and the whole thing explodes in pure dancefloor meltdown. choose from the a-side jimmy simpson mix or dinosaur s own more stripped down, chaotic but equally compelling mix on the flip. huge in new york especially at nicky sianos own gallery nightclub, later championed by frankie knuckles in chicago and more recently chosen by twitch as the perfect record to end the very last optimo espacio, this is a true disco classic and absolutely essential in any discerning record collection.

the eraly years of a decade are good times for exploration, just like in 1993 when we (alex & sasa) first started working together. we rented a huge loft space on ave b & 2nd st. in the east village in manhattan. the winter was tough, we had 16 snow storms and due to a landlord who hated everybody, we had our heating turned off except for a few hours in the morning, sometimes not even that... the only way to stay warm was to wear hats, gloves and scarves the whole winter... but that was fine because nightlife was a lot of fun. there was a good club/party every night. right below where we lived was one of the best after hour clubs called >save the robots<. but one of my favourite parties was >sugar babes< which was at the cbgbs gallery space right next door to cbgbs, every monday night. the dj used to sample parts of the records he was mixing and then just play the loop of the sample and alongside was a drummer playing to it. it was really inspiring. so we wanted to go back to this idea of sound assembly and create a new series for us to work with called >skematics< its like a diagram or manual to help understand the interconnections between the odd parts we find and assemble, an imaginary manual for a new decade that has not been musically defined yet

the two artists jakob seidensticker and bardia salour take care of a wonderful and fabulous background of this ep. they give the original track - short image in my brain - a new sound. with dedication and passion this remix is a treat for your ears just from the beginning. bounded on the track you will absorb every sound and let yourself drift. another wonderful vinyl extraction presented by enough!

east meets west on culprits seventeenth ep release, as three emerging producers from russia make their debut on the los angeles based label as special case. as culprit enters the next phase in its lifecycle, young producers are submitting music that is inspired by the culprit catalogue. championing fresh acts, as evidenced on the above the city compilation, is becoming a key aspect of the culprit ethos.
heralding from st petersburg and moscow, special case is part of a rising wave of eastern european artists, a region that holds tremendous importance for culprit s ukrainian born andrei osyka. having established reputations as individual djs in their native soil, the trio came together as special case specifically to create a release for culprit, and with the belief that the whole would be greater than the sum of their parts. aurum is dancefloor gold and proves they were right to do so.

justice, the french duo formed by gaspard auge and xavier de rosnay, is the band of a whole generation. when the two friends were still bright students in graphic design, in 2003 they made justice a place to experiment a hybrid genre between music and image, which blends pop and electronic borders, and showcases the talents of 2 fascinating passionate pop culture craftsmen, bored with hierarchy. they met pedro winter who had just founded his label ed banger records, he immediately signs them after listening to >we are your friends< which, with its joyful and vitamin-enriched electro beats combined with exhilarating voices, became the hymn of a whole generation and one of the most important tracks of the year 2000, celebrating a reconciliation of pop music and the dancefloor.

15 years have passed since alex cortex began to create his own vision of electronic music - timeless and beyond trends, without a buzz or hype, steadily winning the following of djs and home-listeners, collectors and critics worldwide. his style can be described as unpredictable to a certain point, while maintaining high aesthetic standards. playful with quotes and references, always low-key and focused on psychedelic immersion into sound that shifts the attention from the artist to the music. kihon is a very personal effort, as suggested by the self-portrait on the cover that puts ear, eye, and mouth -reception and production- into context. the carefully elaborated design of this gatefold double lp speaks as a whole and in true minimalist fashion about the passing of time, without ever declaring nostalgia to be a means for itself. this also reflects in the music. alex cortex evades large gestures and obvious quotes, but is certainly conscious of locating his album within a framework of references to other works of electronic music that are important for his own musical evolution. in 11 nameless tracks, kihon takes us on a journey through organic worlds of sound that invites us to flow with the music and connect with the feelings contained in it. the title kihon that relates to japanese martial arts translates to basics or fundamentals, the training of which does not even cease when reaching master grades. those basics that are passed on beyond time are also the foundation of this album. by concentrating on the bare essentials, the music begins to speak, turning the album into a harmonic whole. kihon therefore is also a return to listening, away from a utilitarian perception of music as a background sound. this does not mean it would not work perfectly well in a club context -in the right hands it indeed does- but more notably, kihon is a work of art worth your attention and destined to stand the test of time

excellent deep house album. andy vaz s straight vacationing, his first full-length artist album, since the 2006 release of repetitive moments last forever…, registers as less a straight-up collection of dance-floor burners and more of a variety pack that mixes club tracks and full-fledged house songs. listeners hungry for just ordinary 4/4 throw-downs will not entirely get their share of those, but they ll also get a whole lot more on this dynamic and well-rounded set of eight album tracks and that is exploring house music not just as a simple one way street, but give you a very personal view of the music we call house.

opening up the first of two wicker & steel remix eps is clr’s tommy four seven, a producer whose own debut album came out to a great response earlier this year. tommy switches start chopping’s 4/4 rhythms for his own broken beat foundation and adds a whole new world of bass to the track. the original’s pads echo around the soundscape as each break brings back a tougher version of the beat.

in 2010 the la based label halo cyan records re-released vladislav delay s sistol project. for this deluxe 2cd reissue various well known electronic musicians remixed the recordings from 1999. the whole project received enthusiastic reviews in pitchfork, resident advisor, etc. one of the remixers is mike huckaby, who transferred sistols track >keno< into an outstanding dubby detroit-house masterpiece. it was immediately clear that this track had to be released on vinyl. we are delighted to announce the collaboration between halo cyan and slics of life for mike huckabys s y n t h remix of keno. on the b-side, mike huckaby remixed a track originally produced in the same time period: poles >silberfisch< was released in 2000 on the highly acclaimed yellow album >3<, re-released by scape in 2008 as part of the 3-cd pole box. in 2011, mike huckaby keeps the dubby and slightly melancholic crackling atmosphere of the original, but his s y n t h remix is beams >silberfisch< straight onto the dancefloor, where it arrives as a driving deep techno track.

the second part of the ki split series is a feature of our homegrown talents christian loeffler and steffen kirchhoff. the two friends are part of the ki family since the beginning (loeffler was responsible for the first release on ki and kirchhoff for the third). both artist have a close connection in sound aesthetics and atmosphere, since they still inspire each other every day. on the ki split series 2 you can listen to christian loeffler and steffen kirchhoff experimenting with beautiful samples and underlining the whole piece with their unique sound structure. both in their respective very own romantic approach to deep, melancholic techno music.

autoreply offshoot stuga returns with a highly playable 12 inch that is perfect for the outdoor party season. for this release we welcome back ben rourke who has previously recorded for autoreply, his blue ep collaboration with friend pier bucci having sold out instantly and going on to receive critical acclaim. his tracks effortlessly build without the aid of well known formulas always using high end sound design but never forgetting that house and techno music is essentially meant for dancing. >tahiti< is one of those tracks thats perfect for the big room or after-party alike featuring bouncy percussion, an analogue bass-line that will properly drive the sound system and one of the most infectious synth-sequences of the year. in fact the mans developed a whole new genre, desert island techno! >sharpie< explores the deeper realms of dub driven techno with a very liquid approach just so slightly tipping its hat to the 90s detroit vibe and still very much aimed at the floor. enjoy.

italian producer simone fedi, hailing from tuscany, takes things to a whole new level on this third release on eskimo recordings. >bitter devotion< is a vocal pop gem with a balearic tinge, but its bittersweet vocals and the addictive melody will haunt you. for this tune fedi, a multi-instrumentalist with a knack for pop music and a soft spot for vintage gear, joined forces with a mysterious singer named lola rent, and this turns out to be a winning team.
bitter devotion comes with a rather spectacular remix package, ewan pearson (known from his remix work for goldfrapp, chemical brothers, hot chip, moby, franz ferdinand and depeche mode to name a few) gave it the royal treatment. as an additional treat, welcome stranger aka thomas bullock (rub n tug, laughing light of plenty, map of africa, whatever we want records) has indulged in a psychedelic >bitter devotion< dub, analogue and live... just the way we like it.

this ep was formed with a concept in mind that involves a natural phenomenon occurring in various / different fields of science and nature - anti-parallelism. as the word suggests, anti-parallelism describes the natural relationship between two occurrences, objects or even non-material things, that are virtually identical and yet oriented in different directions. during the time the music was made i was researching natural phenomenons like this one. naturally, this became part of the nucleus, fabric and inspiration for this work. in genetics, for example, if the >antiparallelity< is corrupted during the process of dna replication it is called a mutation. this mutation can be anything from totally inconsequential to critical for the survival of the whole living organism. a double helix of dna contains two helixes, that are naturally anti-parallel to one another. in physics this could be two of the same objects moving through space and time in opposite directions - just like the instruments or parts of a beat in electronic music production. so metaphorically speaking, anti-parallelism holds a natural balance to keep it safe and stable. although this might sound all very conceptual and theoretical this music is obviously just what it is - it is not intended to teach math, physics or biology in any way. the above mentioned aspect has simply found its way through my head and might have led to a piece of music that somehow, at least for me, is connected to these thoughts. it might evoke something very different for you
