when alexander (boddika) got in touch asking for some new fresh music i knew it was a really important step for me. nonplus is a stable reference label in the techno scene and it was a unique opportunity. i thought the open minded philosophy of the label would help me a lot and i could create more experimental works. i decided to produce the tracks in almost one take… turned on the synths and looked for the perfect range and character of sounds and spent some weeks recording it, finishing with some edits before the final mixing. the final results were more than expected. harmonic rain, the ep mains track has a really special groove, with a main melody which is transposed and slightly altering it gives me a good feeling. the ep feels to me like a complete journey itself. with peak time tracks, and more experimental and warm up music. loops but not loops. in summary, im really happy with this release and with the beginning of this musical relationship with boddika and the nonplus team.

“kissing to be clever” is the debut album by culture club. originally released in 1982, it immediately put the band on the musical map. turning the flamboyant boy george into a star, the soulful pop outing incorporated elements of pop, rock, new wave, dance and caribbean rhythms and sprouted several international hit songs.
“do you really want to hurt me” hit the #1 spot in several countries and turned out to be a song that resonates to this day with its universal feel of heart ache. all in all, this set is a highlight of 80s pop music, that set the stage for one of the decade’s most loved and oft-remembered bands.

new to the naar stable, in:state & giuli make their debut in stunning style.visitoz is a straight forward techno affair, as bumping as it is surprising. using a deceptively simple gated arp and horn to dazzlingly complex effect. the track is potentially the most peak time naar has gone yet, and it s an incredibly welcome addition to their canon. on remix duty lauer takes a hold of the main arpeggio and turns it monstrous in the style of liasions dangeruese, yet balances this with his trademark lightness of touch and his ear for a heart wrenching synth line, creating an instant classic that feels like it was beamed straight in from 1986. -plus 1- has been sent from a parallel dimension where the evolution of music took a turn so different that proto garage stands where proto house should be. the track has the step and swagger of the most compelling end of the 2 step movement, but balances that with the surprising naivete and earnestness found in italo, ebm and early forays from chicago. finishing things off, lizards return to the label for a welcome encore following last years success with their 1st release,tanni.

jungle/breakcore legends deformer are back with another horror infused release: “the living dead deformed”. deformer is known for putting the shock into electronic music and pushing the horror experience to another level. during their shows they cut off limbs and intestines are thrown into the audience while the extreme music turns the crowd into raging freaks. “the living dead deformed” pays hommage to one of the biggest horrorfilm classics of all time: “night of the living dead” (1968) and its creators.
the record was produced before the unfortunate passing of george a. romero. out of respect, deformer chose put out the record as a non-profit, limited edition, numbered by hand, green coloured vinyl release. the amazing cover art is created by legendary visual artist graham humphreys (a nightmare on elm street, the evil dead, poltergeist).
“the living dead deformed” is dark, menacing and will again turn parties into moshpits. they won’t stay deaf!

as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.

sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

7th storey projects is pleased to welcome back the myor massiv head honcho for his 3rd release on our label. earlier this year, coco bryce travelled to tokyo and osaka for a small series of gigs. thoroughly impressed by his experiences there, upon returning home, he immediately took to crafting a slew of jungle and hip hop tracks, heavily influenced by everything he d seen, heard, felt and tasted in the land of the rising sun. the ep kicks off with its title track, ayakashi. dark, fierce and mysterious like the mythical creatures it was named after, it builds up slowly, utilizing a combination of chopped up japanese percussion, haunting flutes and hot pants breaks, before switching to full on amen assault mode halfway through the tune. shinjuku is one of tokyos most well known wards, and also the place where coco found the records from which the samples were sourced to construct this number: a turntablism beat/scratch album, and a compilation of traditional work songs, this particular one originating from the gold mines of the island of hokkaido. on the b1 track, kaguya, he takes a more gentle approach: sweet, yet melancholic, like the miyazaki movie of the same name. the ep is rounded off with hotaru, which borrows from an entirely different source of inspiration, namely dj krush s abstract take on boom bap hip hop. shards of mid-90s mo wax are blended with anime samples, making for a solid two and a half minutes of golden era-esque head nodding.

r&s proudly presents brand new signing felix manuel aka djrum. djrum is a perennially acclaimed underground artist, since his first release in 2010 whos quietly built a list of fans that reads like a whos who of contemporary dance music. as an artist, djrum has formed a reputation for his unique fusion of a range of genres ranging from jazz, hip hop and dubstep to ambient and techno. his music swells with oceanic bass laded beats, cavernous atmospherics and deeply emotive melodies. an accomplished dj his compositional approach feels like a natural collage of his influences which has seen him release for the likes of the zenker brothers ilian tape imprint as well as the influential 2nd drop label, plus remixes for ninja tune and domino. felix now steps up to the plate at r&s with one of his most visionary releases to date. deeply meditative melodies twist and turn through stuttering rhythms and pulsing low bass, hypnotic pads and woozy atmospherics. manuels music somehow manages to retains the urgency and dynamic pressure of the dance floor with the intimacy and elegant detailing of the best headphone music. a natural fit for r&s, there is a full length djrum album in the pipeline in 2018 - looks like its going to be an exciting year ahead.

the german-southafrican franchise rise music takes its second turn with one of the label heads hyenah in charge. the proper mixture of joburg vibes with the hypnotic elements of modern club music creates a new sound which moves us all. bafana bafana! kristian

its ya boy cherrrrrriep (sure-eep! say it with me now), one of torontos finest purveyors of basement jackin, turn up the bpm and let the wild times flow, dance trax. taking inspiration from the time honored traditions of the american mid west, we go straight to your dome on this one with a northern take on all things booty.

finally the long-awaited second series of invisible family outings has arrived.label boss and compiler gk machine has this to say beyond ecstatic to get these tracks out. the gazeebo track i ve been playing in my sets for years. digital only but so great it definitely needed to get pressed onto wax! i would dj with it using ableton and speed it up a lot so for the vinyl i asked jon (nedza) who ive been a huge fan of since his community recordings releases on grayhound and imperial dub, whether he could speed it up a little bit before we pressed it up. now its 100% perfect: a moroder-esque cosmic stomper thats sure to set any dancefloor alight. the apiento track is another one that s been gestating for a long time first appearing around the time the original e.s.p. 12inch appeared on the wonderful golf channel recordings in 2014. secret circuit gave it a complete overhaul, in fact several complete overhauls, plus some of his signature guitar and has turned the already blissful track into an afro-esque, trippy, beautiful, beautiful piece of music that (imo) is one of his best yet. utterly gorgeous! then there s the boy-girl retro-future duo der kundalini coming from the wonderful lectric sands stable in ny who gave us zoovox. this one s also been hiding on my hard drive way too long! finally relative newcomers konzel (of junto club/optimo music fame) & natural sugars (pardon my french) round off the package just perfectly. the former so distinct that i felt it was a perfect opener for the a side. so, i hope you dig it and keep an eye out for the super limited 12-track cassette too! limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

“never change a winnig team”. that s what radio citizen s niko schabel must have thought when he decided to release his fourth album once again on sonar kollektiv. after the success of “the night & the city” (sk310lp / cd) from 2015 and the productive collaboration ever since this seems like a wise resolution. schabel s idea to retrieve to a mountain cabin in salvenberg, tirol with his band and tons of equipment turned out to be an even more crucial factor to the cause. here they could create and record new songs and bring them together neatly for the new album. the 13 tracks assembled here on “silent guide” are – each on its own and in its entirety anyway – best proof how wonderfully this approach has worked out.

following a run of local transmissions from a sagittariun, crump, rob smith and atki2, idle hands turns its attention to berlin and the straight-up, no-nonsense techno thrust of johanna knutsson and hans berg. both respected artists and djs in their own right, the pair have been turning out 12inches together for the free spirit society, klasse and crime city disco over the past few years, but most importantly they ve been steering the excellent ufo station recordings as a vessel for their punchy, primal techno tracks. the sound on this ep taps into the pure form of stern, dark dancefloor tackle favoured at idle hands – no extraneous filler, plenty of space in the mix, but equally built with warmth and personality rather than monochrome functionality. if you need further proof, just look to the fact the ep is named after a swedish soap opera from the 90s. the bleeps and bass tones that pulse through -taggen- are so finely crafted they need not skip and dance around the arrangement. the melodic interplay on -klimax- is subtle but ultimately uplifting and optimistic where so much techno concerns itself with oppressive gloom. -bimbo- finds the pair embracing a more psychedelic approach, but even here the modulating effects processes are kept within certain boundaries so as to not dilute the impact on the floor. after all, this is music to dance to, to be felt over a large system (where possible). moving from leftfield bass excursions to minimalist 2-step, uk techno and now onto this much more continental sound, themälarviken ep continues to widen the range of idle hands musical tastes without losing sight of the complete picture.

its good to know those ‘wow! moments still exist, like when we heard the first few seconds of dewaltas bitter earth dub. first things first though… this latest adventure in cocoons cult 10inch vinyl-only series comes from said david koch aka dewalta with alex & digby also turning heads with citadel on the flipside

d.a.n.c.e. (detector for advanced neutron capture experiments), the various artists series of the label, comes back with the italians ness, luigi tozzi and the french underjack. on the a-side with -tmb- ness turns a robotic rhythm in a dark electric / industrial infected tunnel. luigitozzi’s a2 “blood meridian” strikes soft under an oppressive butterfly effect creating an intense flow. underjack on the b-side delivers a nebulous groove that is responsible of a eight minutes of immense hypnotic techno cut with energy drums and crispy bassline.

without new jersey native kerri ‘kaoz’ chandler, house—specifically deep house—would sound very different. ever since his teens he has been making and playing music with a unique sense of soul, jazz and deepness. from majors like atlantic, king street sounds and nervous via his own madhouse, his releases are never short of genre-defining classics that have spawned a thousand copycats. affectionately referred to as the stevie wonder of house, kerri’s dj sets take him all over the world and often find him playing live keys next to his informed selections. he’s meticulous about sound, too, which means that no-ones kicks hit quite like kerri’s. his instantly classic and timeless dj-kicks mix, though, takes him out of the club and through a world of influences and inspiration.

dana ruh’s brouqade has long been renowned for its many eclectic and unpredictable sounds. in that essence, the label’s latest signing is a fitting fit. kamran sadeghi is an nyc based electronic music producer who is well versed in unconventional soundscapes. as likely to release an electronic music ep as he is turn his hand to film scores or more ambient textures, sadeghi has collaborated with everyone from patti smith to berlin club, berghain. a live artist of considerable depth and panache, his signing to brouqade marks another high point in the label’s story.

an-2 and samos have turned the clock back to finish off a couple of sessions theyd recorded together years back. maxim samos is our keen friend and sophisticated guitar player from minsk, belarus that we know for years. his first appearance on theomatic was back in 2008 with space-rock tune alpha storm, which received lots of positive feedback and found its way to the prins thomas live at robert johnson compilation. as well as guitars, maxim can play almost any string instrument and, on one of his erstwhile trips to istanbul, he dropped by a music store, picked up a saz and immediately set it alight, blowing away the entire staff. after scoring a big discount, he came out, clutching it in his hands. an-2 commented on samos playing on the saz during one of his first visits to minsk, and immediately suggested cutting a track together something that took 10 years, but the wait’s been worth it. what weve got is surreal halal-acid-folk-disco affair, perfect for whirling dervishes or dancing the dhikr. the storys continued on the b-side, where were treated to a tale of trips in a gti, before finishing with a nordic saga about cold fronts coming at us from behind the polar circle.

this record, and the full 2xlp that will follow it, are dedicated to and inspired by events in 2015 & 2016, which saw the spectre of global crisis come knocking at europes doorstep. during this time, more than a million migrants and refugees fled their homes in the middle east, northern africa, sub-saharan africa and other conflict ravaged areas in search of a better life. for many, hopes of a future for themselves and their families lay in continental europe. while the reasons for such displacement, on a scale unseen in almost a century, are many, so are the reasons for europe being seen as the ideal destination. the relative peace and calm of the continent and the prospect of building prosperous lives in western europe was enough to mobilize multitudes to embark on the treacherous journey to europe. one of the most well-trodden paths on this journey was the balkan route, a trail leading through turkey, greece, and the former yugoslavia. this route was not without its dangers, and the dreams of many were dashed by impassible security fences and discordant eu politics, as one by one they were turned away at borders, or worse, forcibly returned to their countries of origin.

europa is the first single that represents the seed of discontent, from which the 2xlp grew. it was recorded during long jam sessions in belgrade as the media spotlight started to dim. the city became the purgatorial destination for a large number of migrants, whose journeys had been cut short and this record reflects the atmosphere of disillusionment and uncertainty about the future, which descended on the serbian capital.

next up on the influential artreform records label is the boss himself, aka kyiv-based dj and producer yevgeniy joss. often turning out tracks that sit high in the juno and decks charts, joss has a high-quality sound that ranges from slick tech to deep house and now he proves that once more.
up first is smooth, an infectious groove with lively synths scurrying about and bringing lots of dynamism to the drums. the percussion is crisp and the whole thing feels spaced out and futuristic. it’s busy and brimming with energy and will get any floor on its toes. sharp is a darker number with more menace in the drums. they are rubbery and supple and run through with edgy little synth lines. the track grows wilder as it unfolds and will really work dance floors into a lather.
once again the master joss shows just why he is such a tastemaker in the underground dance scene.

shintaro.d is new on the scene, but this promising japanese producer follows up on his debut on his own label init with this assured 12inch for jus groove it, taking the stripped down deep house template and injecting it with an off-kilter approach to sound design that subtly makes for one of the most effective dj tools heard in recent memory. that track in question is kohisikarubeki, and its remix by rhythm & soul takes those intricately carved shards of sound design and smooths them into a more conventional house music shape. the b-side finds shintaro.d turning out more of that subversive, future-minded deep house business, with waganamidakana being a clear highlight.

a return to the source: ribcage is where it all began for the dubfire project. after years of exploring, subverting and setting brave new benchmarks in the house world, this marked the start of ali shirazinia setting out to set the same creative benchmarks in techno. restrained, drawn-out but beastly when it wanted to be, the original was a serious statement of intent. even at the time you got a sense it was going to be a historic tune. loco dice especially felt that when he signed it to desolat 10 years ago. to celebrate this time-flying milestone, dubfireÆs recruited two of the most respected names possible for remix duties. first up, the unstoppable, unavoidable, unquenchable dense & pika who keep within the dramatic rising template but with a whole new set of instruments and texturesà and a percussion palette that absolutely sizzles when the whole groove kicks in mid-way. phenomenal. hot on their heels comes a unique remix invitation to on-u legend and one of the ukÆs most decorated and treasured studio controllers adrian sherwood. turning in a serious techno re-cut that pays tribute to every element and takes over 12 minutes to make sure they each shine amid the head-twisting pools of tripped-out decay, itÆs clear his time with pinch has had a profound effect. two incredibly well considered and detailed remixes that remind you what remixes should beà brave new chapters of a story we all love being told. these will sound great when the 20th anniversary remixes are commissioned in 2027.

after showcasing his knack for emotive productions via various eps throughout his career, including chart-topping singles on hot since 82s knee deep in sound and dave seamans selador, the swiss artist several definitions now reveals his first full-length album. it should come as no surprise that the artist found familiarity in what he calls the berlin style of electronic music and notably, that of oliver koletzkis stil vor talent. reborn after the road is an intense and emotional affair, consisting of 14 tracks crafted using field and live recordings, switching between analogue and digital to mould a sonic atmosphere that emblazons the artists core ethos. although the personal experience that sparked the inspiration for the lp is far from pleasant, several definitions style is audibly resolute. reborn after the road, the albums eponymous track, creates a fitting intro for the healing process that is to follow. its airy pads and majestic strings sonically stand at the epicenter of the expressive album. several definitions continues to explore these sounds on vaporous slices like pontce?ard 32 or the more acidical last breath. the mellifluous, feminine vocals of lameduza on learn to feel and her, as well as spanish singer goldsuns crooner talents on the introspective trust, on the other hand, showcase several definitions ability to work the human voice into his musical explorations. taking introspection one step further towards darker realms, senelity then feels like a rite of passage into the deeper and more intense segment at the albums core. over you briefly signals a turning point, with its alarm-like synths and grave leads, which is then followed by the glitchy resistance on modular spaces.

this limon is sweet, not sour! austin boogie crew records presensts its newest 45 release: the solo vinyl debut of san franciscos own trailer limon (dan meisenheimer). as one half of the pendletons (along with e da boss), limon has been leaving his imprint on the modern funk scene since 2010 with classic singles like waiting on you, let me turn you on, and most recently on the gotta get out ep. this solo 45 features two choice cuts with appearances from west coast heavy hitters e. live and b. bravo. dancing with somebody is a sleek and sexy mid-tempo delight where limon croons about dancing with a stranger while another lover is on his mind. steppers will adore the bumping drums, soaring keys, and resonant bass that peeks its head out at the perfect times. too good.

emotional rescue turns its attention to spanish artist luis delgado, who made a name for himself fusing traditional folk music from across the globe with experimental electronic practice. his first album vathek stands as one of his masterworks, originally released in 1986 and featuring a range of different electro-acoustic approaches that draw you in with their strange, dynamic textures. there s a whiff of jon hassell s treated trumpet about -la puerta de ebano- while -el sacrificio de catoul- deals in a dense weave of chimes and percussion. diverse, engrossing listening from the outer reaches.

charlie ahearn s 1983 film wild style holds a place in both music and cinematic history as one of the first examples of a hip-hop film. since its original release it has been widely praised for its hybrid approach as both a narrative musical and a documentary, and as a time capsule of sorts into the culture of hip-hop during its infancy in the 1980s. besides its classic depictions of mcing, turntablism, graffiti, and breakdancing, the film also featured now legendary figures of the genres in acting roles, such as grandmaster flash, fab five freddy, busy bee starski, and many more. wild style went on to garner an immense cult following, portions of the film itself would be sampled in records by artists like nas, beastie boys, mf doom, and more, and would even be exhibited by museums in chicago and boston as part of programs on the art of the 1980s.

passport to paradise continue their winning streak with an exclusive release from man of the cloth, digger extraordinaire, john zahl / jaz. if you ve seen his video for thump, you ll know that jaz and his works are weird, wrong and wonderful: in a word, the ethos of ptp is alive and kicking in this release. first up, geisha chugs along in the cosmic dust of 80s synth assortments and flourishes of koto. scatter-brained brilliance from the deepest of osaka basements. a2, move to the beach, heralds a sleeker, sleazier side to jaz s episcopal offering. it builds itself out from a latent groove that ushers in the end of the night, carrying you to the empty seafront just before dawn, where a breeze ruffles the palm trees as you dig your eyes into the moon. turning the page, we have a rework from the same post-kraftwerk heritage, but this one is more potent synthpop roller, a straight-up, no frills edit for the toughest of dance floors. the final track, twin theory, is a lofty affair from the outset, its arpeggiated bass holding the track to ransom: it is playful yet very serious, sublime and sarcastic. this is what passport to paradise are bringing to your homes and dancefloors. don t miss ou

once again, perm has turned just the right knobs to give you the perfect soundtrack for your personal journey into techno wonderland. the leipzig based wizard simply knows how to leave dancers both dizzy and beatific. when those strings in -03-viii- come together to its climax you re more than ready to embrace the night. the focus in -03-iv- is more heavy on the drum work with just the right amount of subtle tripping hazards. -03-iii- builds and builds without ever bubbling over while the mighty -03-viii- comes with a boom-tschak-electro feel to it. the artwork comes courtesy of carl-johannes schulze.

after the acclaimed release of nature boy s ruff disco volume one, frame of mind is back with another re-issue of a 25 year old record. gerd s very first house release called afterglow, produced under the alias of it s thinking together with two of his (highschool) friends mark and dirk-jan, was picked up by john acquaviva for release on the short lived plus 8 subsidiary called malego back in 1992. the ep features five warm and atmospheric house tracks recorded at a dark attic room somewhere in the west of holland in 1991. these days afterglow is quite a sought after record that rarely turns up cheap on discogs. we are proud to be able to offer you limited copies of this re-mastered package.

the story of the great roots reggae harmony trio black uhuru is one defined by many unexpected twists and turns. in its best known form, led by michael rose and with founding member duckie simpson and the black american female vocalist, puma jones, the group would enjoy the greatest popularity of any act in the wake of bob marley’s untimely death in 1981, but the origins of the group lay in the turbulent waterhouse district during the mid-1970s. duckie first formed the group as uhuru, the swahili word for unity, with garth dennis as lead singer and don carlos to join him in harmony, after cutting an adaptation of the impressions’ “romancing to the folk song” at dynamics, “time is on our side” at randy’s for clive chin, and “slow coach” for raymond “benno” anderson, dennis drifted into the wailing souls and don carlos went solo, leading duckie to recruit rising waterhouse vocalist michael “tony” rose as lead singer, and errol nelson from the jays for harmony. their debut album, love crisis, was produced, voiced and mixed at king tubby’s studio by prince jammy and remains and outstanding example of jammy’s roots reggae production phase. the song “hard ground” vamps on a similar theme to marley’s “talking blues”: rose sings of a life of everyday hardship, with destitution and homelessness the pervading factors. on the extended dub portion and dub the instrumental cuts that follow the alternate vocal take of this enthralling 12-inch ep, you can hear the non-standard instrumentation that helps make the work so innovative, with winston wright’s harpsichord melody emphasising the hopelessness of rose’s emotive lyrics, the commanding rhythm and understated bass and guitar from robbie shakespeare and chinna smith completing the picture.

while red axes s ode to the sun is still running strong one and a half years after its release (it even made it into last year s top 50 at resident advisor), here comes the heavyweight remix package: german wunderkind konstantin sibold is hitchhiking the original into afro rave territories with vodoo percussions and a hauting bassline that will be hard to escape from. fango from the italian degustibis family continues his string of strong remixes as he turns the original into a rough beat version just to drop the melody in the break for maximum dancefloor mayhem. and last but not least the axes themselves come up with a tropical house version that works any time any place. and thus the sun continues to shine.

that cyberpunk chameleon of styles, manchester’s pride and dancefloor master ruf dug is back on wax on copenhagen’s music for dreams. following up the first 12” of remixes that came out last year, we once again re-visit the island life of monsieur ruffy and his debut full length album “island” (recorded during a sojourn on guadeloupe). first up we have italians on the mix. hi-jacking ruffy’s tribute to wally badarou, leo mas and fabrice opt to do their own thing: which is churning out a bouncing house belter of their own that bears little resemblance to the original lo-fi synth reverie. closer to the original then, is fellow mancunian andi hanley’s take on the same track. adding sparse percussion and and a simple but effective drum beat, this take seems to simply be an uncovered second half of the original, where it finally takes off for the dancefloor. “mangrove dub” is reworked by fresh-on-the-scene aussie producer tropical hi-fi who creates a brilliant version full of moist ambient textures and reverb-heavy dub treatments. at last but definitely not least, seahawks turns the whimsical hippie folk ballad “le rayon vert” into a more intense and neatly dressed affair, focusing on the instrumental parts and lifting aside vocalist nev cotte’s contribution to the original. still with a mindful of tropical dreams and the ocean shore close at hand, but in a more introvert vini reilly kind of way. essential package.

3 of shadow child’s connected collaboration album tracks get a makeover from rimbaudian, mj cole and bodhi. rising talent rimbaudian reworks the only solo track from the project, steak fingers, and takes the original bumping stripped back groove on a more melodic journey with its stunning arpeggios and new string parts. the backbone of the original remains but be prepared to take a trip to a new stratosphere, with his stripped version which is included too. bodhi step up next to remix gacid, twisting and turning the original acid patterns and grooves to make a special rework that gives a nod to early detroit with new drum programming and pads. the welsh duo bring the heat. mj cole delivers what must be one of his finest remixes. um the collaboration with bodhi, already offers a trip that flirts with jungle, lo-fi and the hypnotic but mj cole brings his signature vibe to the table with new keys, groove and provides something that feels as if it belongs in the realms of his seminal hit sincere.

we’re seeing red! promnite’s absolutely mental snake charmer ep gets the physical edition it deserves. this ain’t no soundcloud special — snake charmer is a four-track dive into life itself, showcasing the collaborative songwriting chops, elevated sound design and alwaysfunky approach that makes promnite one of the most exciting young producers in the game. this cali-via-nyc producer (and co-founder of la’s beloved athletixx dj collective) eschews run-of-the mill bangers for the bittersweet turn up of “gunsmoke,” featuring denzel curry, nell, j.k. the reaper and twelve’len, and short-story worthy clubland tales on “ride around” with adam vida. meanwhile, prom’ssmooth stepper “call me” with mark johns nuzzles up against the space-age trunk rattle of “cruise’n usa,” featuring ladonnis. promnite is bringing the love back to club music. for all their futuristic thump and sonic precision, the tracks on his snake charmer ep are wonderfully, messily human.

coalmine records is excited to announce the limited-edition vinyl release of the artifacts’ highly regarded 2012 single, “easter,” which marked the group’s first official release in more than 15 years.
initially released as a digital single on april 3, 2012 (the tuesday before easter sunday), the track later appeared on coalmine’s decennary compilation, unearthed, which dropped may 13, 2014.
however you heard it—one thing was very clear: despite their time apart, artifacts emcees tame one and el da sensei sounded as fresh as ever on “easter.” the new jersey rappers’ venomous flows are boosted by the neck-breaking production of acclaimed north carolina producer khrysis. making the cipher complete is the turntable work of dj dutchmaster, who provides the scratch hook and outro cuts.
with this release, “easter” makes its grand return in the physical form in a limited-edition white vinyl pressing that also includes the instrumental track on the flip. it also takes things back to the old-school by way of a front jacket hole that exposes the label (the heads know what’s up).

cues002 continues the series with two dense tracks that fearlessly steer through deep waves of sound, continually rising and falling in timbre and intensity. with its furious drum arrangement gaining momentum, cues002 a takes an unexpected turn as a dazzling pad sound emerges and sets off an unsettling euphoria. grounded by a pounding kick drum, cues002 b meanders through a disembodied soundscape, allowing only a washed out ride cymbal to add a sense of familiarity.

this record is the result of an undeniable desire to uncover a once lost and forgotten gem from beyond the dust. to recover the magic underneath, that has never grown nor subsided and doesn’t belong to anything but itself. a love story between two music labels that found each other in this blissful journey, lossless and something happening somewhere are here to presents the next chapter in their findings. uzoamaka is an original track by king britt from 2002, that still remains as fresh and uplifting as it was 15 years ago. nuno dos santos (sohaso) has been in love with the sonic narrative since it was released, but felt the urge to bring the transformative beauty to a wider audience. in an attempt to recover the original, the original master and pre-master turned out to be lost by the waves of time. calyx mastering have remastered the music straight from vinyl, keeping the raw charm of the original but giving it a sonic facelift to fit with modern standards, also making it available in the digital format for the first time since it’s release. the original by king britt is an ode to the ritual of dance music in it’s purest form. with vocals panning across the stereo field that preach ‘sing, dance, be, free to dance’, it resonates with the primordial human playfulness, joy and expression in all of us. teasing with a melodic bassline, almost reaching twelve minutes running time, it’s a modern hymn that never fails to mesmerize and bring people’s spirit together. besides remastering the original, it gave the opportunity to invite other artists to retell the story. this time the mighty dixon gives the original track an update for modern dance floors. pushing the groove to the foreground, adding some extra percussion and drive while letting the choir guide you to a monumental break in which the chord suspends in the air. “free to… free to… free to…” nuno dos santos has used his magic touch for a short beat edit, which focusses the whole affair on the groove even more. a powerful tool to add some impact to tracks or to break up an otherwise repetitious dj set. mathias schober is back under his sb alias, carefully tightening and shortening the original version from 2002 with his edit to create a version that celebrates the quality of the elements. pushing and pulling, enhancing the entrancing effect of the musical soul.

the cosmic pint glass keg series continues its secret vinyl only 10&#8243,,,,, addition, pressed to 200 copies. this time daniel t supplies the dancefloor fun times by adding some tropical funk to maricopa s ascent and turning it into some mutant disco party jam. on the flip miskotom adds a hefty dollop of atmosphere to the already atmospheric volcanic glass to provide a stunningly laid back finish. get these while they re hot!
