already a mainstay in the scene with admired releases on brother label poker flat, and of course connaisseur, patrick chardronnet returns with a wonderful 2 track ep on audiomatique. a delightfully trippy, post-minimal adventure, ‚piper‘ raises the brow for chardronnet, dropping the big room synths this time in favour of a very organic, low-slung addictive groove. sparse, tricky percussion underpins the headsdown late night vibe, as a drifting ensemble of mystic vocals and haunting horns unfolds over 11 minutes. enchanting, mesmeric and deeply spaced, this reduced-percussive foray explores chardronnet‘s more hypnotic side... a priceless cut of of hybrid house from a modern master. on the b side the driving, textural chimes of ‚dropout‘ ensnare the listener into another beautiful and mysterious world. solid-state, bass-led percussion and crisply-cut percussive fx remain subdued whilst an epic, swirling synth landscape weaves its dreamy tale. suggesting moments of real drama, yet all the while maintaining an addictive, slow burning vibe, its a an amazing journey into this producer‘s remarkable, inimitable sonic world.

likely ep is tims first release on tiefschwarzs souvenir label. lead track alike sounds like ivan smagghe jamming with richie hawtin in a warehouse rave in london, skirting a line between futuristic tech house and discerning electro. a live bassline holds down the groove as a trickling bleepy melody develops throughout the track. as more and more layers of elaborate sonic trickery are laid down, a driving snare jacks out the groove further before a series of effects laden breakdowns tighten the tension further and further. cowbells take the second phase of the track ever taughter before the groove emerges into a stabbing hook and pulsating synth noises that drive the dancefloor into blissed out oblivion. subtle vocals tease the ears in the background of the final strung out breakdown, never quite dominating the tune before the jacking bass and kick drop back in. ‘unlike shares a similar vibe for mixing live instruments with plug in madness. live sounding bassline and guitar lines open the track and roll out the groove before the main synth hook takes over. as the track rolls in and out of its breakdowns it lurches between reverb heavy, bleepy chaos and futuristic rhythms. think depeche mode writing an experimental instrumental on the moon in 2012 and youre halfway there. like many french artists these days tim lives and works in london and also collaborates with fellow frenchies ivan smagghe and dante eprom. he first caught the attention of vinyl sleuths with his excellent remix of db (8)s future now in 2004 and now runs his own label marketing music as well as pushing the boundaries of spacey electro flavoured tech house with his own solo material.

the first solo album from rod modell (deepchord) in nearly 10 years, following up 2007 s -incense & blacklight- comes in lush form with, -mediterranea-. clocking in at 72 minutes, this cerebral epic reveals a sense of timelessness and stillness, an exquisite portrayal of reflection that is sonically enriching and emotionally engaging. opening with field recordings conducted while abroad in the islands of spain, sculpts a sublime sense of nuance that creeps into fore as time passes, gradually enveloping and evolving into what sounds as an orchestra playing from the fathomless ends of the ocean. the quiet jazz induced snare percussion honors the melody hidden deep beneath the surface. congas and tribal rhythms accentuate its colorful and vibrant dream-like melodies that slowly expose themselves into the mix. haunting, alluding to the symphonic, its emotional depth shift gradually, revealing the underlying, subconscious tonal colors. the magic and lushness of the strings, the beautiful resonance of the violin and the love felt in each key stroke tugs right at the heart strings. to us here at echospace, this may be the most beautiful and inviting piece we ve ever heard from rod, absolutely stunning!

the mortimer trap is an epic 77min variation of morton feldmans for bunita marcus constructed by german experimentalist and techno icon thomas brinkmann and australian sound artist oren ambarchi. pulsating waves of claustrophobic ambience generated from who-knows-what patiently builds into a throbbing rhythmic pulse of gorgeous sonic density. since the 80s thomas brinkmann has experimented with sound, its textures and its construction methods. his custom built two-arm turntable on concept 1, the sampling of damaged records on klick and various experiments with carved-groove vinyl are just a handful of career highlights that mark brinkmann out as a true musical pioneer. oren ambarchi, primarily known for his solo guitar records for the touch label, has worked with a diverse array of artists such as keiji haino, fennesz, phill niblock, jim o rourke, voice crack, keith rowe and sunn 0))). ambarchi and brinkmann first worked together in in japan in january 2011 in a trio with mika vainio. the mortimer trap is their first collaborative work as a duo.
