once again, the sunkissed camp get it spot on with this loud-pressed 12 inch collection of balearic classics from brazilian songstress astrud gilberto. opens with the original version of mesmerising dancer *black magic*, a great dj weapon that got the tangoterje edit seal of approval a few years back. followed by balearic favourite *beginnings*, a jazzy take on chicago s classic hit which spins out into eight minutes of sensual bliss. turn over for big daniel wang play, the obscure lp track *all i ve got*, a glorious low-slung floor-filling gem produced by none other than salsoul orchestra founder vince montana who also supplies the sublime disco version of the song that made astrud a household name *the girl from ipanema*. lastly comes her cool and breezy version of the bossanova jazz standard *agua de beber*. beautiful stuff.

working together in person has been an important point in cavaans collaborations lately - much preferring the human interaction and local landscapes over the soulless exchange of sound files over the internet. with this point taken care of, the two cavaan guys struck out in a berlin, heidelberg and venice studio. while the awesomeness of the cities kept the team quiet the landscape nonetheless teamed with sounds.

opening up the release is *der groove günther*, a stripped back bit of rubbery, supple techno. the groove sure is infectious, but it’s the way its detailed with such curious sounds – metal twangs, squelchy chords, icy hi-hats – that makes it so engaging. on the remix, tinush reimagnes the track as an even weirder thing. it’s all about micro-evolving details, subtle and inherent funk and keen sound design that is part shiny and stiff at the same time as being elastic and bendy.
