variable is the first compilation on pi electronics, which also kicks off the new catalogue peva. this various artists release includes the works of several artists involved in the label till now, along with some very familiar faces to pi that have been supporting the parties in the past years. the aim was to bring the main label roster - artists with original music on pi, such as jk flesh, ontal and damcase - under the same roof as artists that have been with the pi electronics project since its early days: the label s party residents, 3.14, nemmett and das along with other fellow athenians, unhuman, bmsk and the project “i am legion, for we are many”. the outcome will be available in cd, vinyl and digital format, while the vinyl sampler will feature jk flesh, ontal, nemmett and bmsk.

mytron & ofofo make multi culti great again with a full, fun, five-track ep. little is known about this freaky duo whose sound straddles opposing polarities, merging organics and synthetics, joining traditional textures with futuristic finish. these are sample-licious tracks that also feature original vocals and raw analog synths. they are noisy but clean, rough but smooth, soft and crunchy. on one hand, it s mad-cap multicultural disco funk as on si jambo (translated loosely as all good ) and 2tac onana, and on the other it s cybernetic weirdness and italo-inflected electro with non-binary joys on the venus holodeck and czary mary, which sounds like it could be the flip-side to sharivari. in between this binary divide is something for the mind, a brilliant piece of pop music that springs lightly into your brain with catchy bleeps, incredible vocoder, and a beat guaranteed to get the braindance party started.

oraculo records looks to the past in very few occasions and monomen deserves to be one of the exceptions. the norvegian band momonen released back in 2007 one of the best electronic post-punk albums of the beginning of xxi centurty on trust me records, not only for the music quality but because all the band members had only 19 years old at the time. suddenly the band gets dissolved after only 1 ep and 1 album. now, 10 years later, oraculo records proudly recovers the best tracks of their album (+1 one of the previous ep) on a record that will be very searched and valued. all tracks mastered and remastered specially for vinyl by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

* this is akiko kiyama s 4th full-length album, stemming from two years of exploration outside her established dance floor inclinations, boiling down her sound to its essential organic grooves, intricate harmonies and eery atmospheres. the nature of her organic grooves lies within inter-sound gaps, carefully crafted to lead the listener through time distortions and into an hypnotic solitary world where music is breathed, not played. a sound imprinted of a definitely human character and vigor, yet sometimes ambiguous, fleeting, and capricious. from her peculiar sense of harmony and rhythm, and a meticulous minimal approach to composition, emerges rich lyrical lines forming a unique musical universe that few has had the chance to hear yet.

fifty first recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in london called state 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for state 51 s existing clients. state 51 was the go to studio for the likes of x-press 2, sharp, amalgamation of soundz. the engineers we worked with included mark woolford, james brown, james reynolds & mark yardley. fifty first recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of uk garage music. we produced and released music in the 90s, for over 7 years, with the likes of tuff jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as konnect / test press / unda vybe / spread love / tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.

the 1st remix comes from berlin based markus suckut. a subtle angle is taken on reflect which makes the remix feel sustainable. just the perfect remix to include in his impeccable oeuvre. all the way from finland is analog devotee samuli kemppi, who takes care of the 2nd remix. samuli creates a sudden tension with builds up until the very end. a001, from amsterdam, turns the original reflect into a obscure remix with an perplexing 2nd half. a001s mysterious and quiet appearance is a paradox compare to his musical output. twr72 closes the ep with the bonus track *response*. a solid and barbarous answer to reflect. no words are further needed.

vin sol & matrixxman open up their label, soo wavey, to newcomer en who drops this 4 track ep (including a remix by vin sol & matrixxman) of house and techno. the lead track truth steps out of the gates swinging with aggressive yet tucked tr-909 programming sitting nicely alongside dark motifs. ens and reality then delves into menacing minimal drone techno territory, ultimately yielding to a subtle call and response exchange among dueling 808 tom bass lines. on the flip side, 4u lighten things up a tad with soulful, atmospheric detroit chords supplying a much needed breath of fresh air. last but not least, vin sol and matrixxman join in on the fun supplying a hypnotic, off kilter reworking of 4u imbuing the remix with restrained chicago jacking vibes that flawlessly straddle the divide between house and techno. limited to 500 copies (no repress!).

spirit wrestlers is the new imprint launched by diy discs dj, pete woosh(one half of digs & woosh). the label is a continuation of the sound heard on the infamous strictly4groovers and diy discs label s woosh is notably known for working with, diy is celebrating 25 years this year, testament to petes standing in the industry. this 1st sampler ep from the label draws on the incredible pedigree of music that nottingham produces and continues to lead the field with. as well as woosh himself, artists such as peej of diy discs, positive divide of littlemen and andy riley of inland knights/toka/drop all make for an impressive 4 tracker - just a taste of things to come. limited to 333 hand numbered 12s including sticker & insert, and packaged as a record should be.

ruairi kennedy is klose one, a fierce and respected dj with a history of playing some of the finest pirate stations out there (including currently hosting the school records show on rinse) and is renowned for his outstanding sets at major festivals and clubs. now turning his hand to production, his debut comes on loefahs co-run label school records and follows previous eps from dusky and paleman. this to-the-point two tracker offers a brace of raw tracks that straddle the divide between the rawest vibes house, bass and techno have to offer and makes no compromises along the way.

despite the watery divide between them, brooklyn-bound greg schappert and london-based tom russell have fostered a production partnership as donor / truss for the last six years, emerging today as one of technos more robust and hardworking duos. as solo artists they ve racked up notable releases between them on labels like stroboscopic artefacts, perc trax and our circula sound, outside of schapperts own miniscule imprint. meanwhile russell has been stepping out as the acid-charged mpia3, lately flexing a less is more approach with outings on avian and r&s.
