makam returns to dekmantel records with his first full-length album for the amsterdam based label. blankens ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to than sadet, a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. that sadet displays a refinement of makams sound. the music is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. blanken: than sadet is a secluded beach on an island in thailand. a mysterious atmosphere haunts it. its windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. there are many cliffs and you cant swim because the waves are too high. four years ago i visited than sadet for the first time and ive been coming back ever since. at one point i decided to bring my studio equipment. for a week, i dedicated my days to making music. those sketches formed the basis of the album.

san fran-based artist, tape_hiss releases his second ep on love notes and you can clearly hear both his sound and the label s maturing in tandem. moving on from the depth of his first record, love is a dog from hell, tape_hiss takes things into headier waters, going heavy on the acid and the rugged basslines on this 4 track ep. angelian war storm begins in exactly that fashion, with 303s squelching and bassbins rattling. this continues through the clear standout trackout, the vivian girls. the gears shift a bit on the b1 where sistrum boss, patrice scott is allowed to rework the vivian girls and does so in a warbly, dirty jazz fashion. tape_hiss then closes things out with the title track, realms of the unreal, which uses an appropriate sample annoucing, “this is me, yo. right here”, and it does very much sound to us like this budding artist is annoucing himself to the world in a most proper fashion. we can’t wait to hear what comes next from both artist and label.

seven years, who cares? no one really but it seemed like a good excuse to do something a bit different. we spoke to some the artists that have helped shape wolf over the years and asked whether they would like to contribute to a double 7 inch release. excited by the unusual project session victim, frits wentink, greymatter & mr. fries have delivered four original tracks with the format in mind. hip hop, beat down, low slung & upfront house all contained across two records. this release will be vinyl only.

decoder recordings is back with its second release. swedish dj and producer mattias fridell delivers strong driving techno on the ep called the tasker. it contains four tracks, and the title track immediately discloses what s the deal with this ep: quality loop based techno with fridell s signature clearly present. current world ecclesiarchy is the second track and on the same level as the tasker, while 33 endocytosis is a bit more funky. a pounding remix of that last track is delivered by the binary mind.

hailing from the small town of stroud, south west england, marcel lune has been quickly building his reputation as one of the hottest new talents in the uk bass music scene. having discovered an 808 in his parents attic at a young age, it quickly became one his favourite toys and set him off on a musical voyage which is beginning to gather momentum. having already released a string of releases including a full album for studio rockers last year, this release with local talk is a new chapter in the ever growing marcel lune saga. this debut for local talk is nothing short of brilliance. an ep that sits somewhere between the early floating points days and local talk s very own crackazat jamming with harvey sutherland. from the opening track sketches marcel brings broken house rhythms, piano chords and dancing acid lines in a glorius way. the clever vocal arrangement on eat good takes no prisoners and on the flip crazy love , another vocal track, marcel slows things down a bit together with vocalist bluesz. the ep ends with soul music, upping the energy level slightly with its snappy, jazz-influenced beats and dancing synth lines. a beautiful and fitting addition to the ever expanding local talk catalogue.

yet more italians on optimo trax! jose manuel delivers 4 unique exotic, fourth world, tribal slabs of ritual music. a1, the great beast in outer space is actually an andrew liles track that jose has completely reworked and sprinkled his magick on. mr. liles is one of my favourite producers in the world, both for his solo work and for his input into my all time heroes nurse with wound. for those who know his work, having something by him that will work on a dancefloor may bring a smile to your face. thankfully i know him a bit and he was more than happy to grant permission for this to be released. a2, folklore is fourth world exotica reimagined for late night dance rites. aa1, ritual, is exactly what the title says it is. aa2, sisi leaves the dance floor completely and even though optimo trax is 100% aimed at djs, was simply too lovely to leave off.

deep88 is back! here is a 7 track lp, music without any pretence, no silly fx or crazy compression/production tricks to take away from the music. just that 1988/1993 vibe with a slight balearic twist but some how avoiding to sound like a poor copy or dated. this last statement couldnt be any truer on this release. the vibe is carried through the whole ep with each consequent track then offering something a little bit different, some showing his balearic side and other tracks having a more house feel.

still riding high on the warm praises for his excellent, the musical stylings of… ep on ndatl, javonntte is welcomed with open arms into the sistrum family. bringing some chunk and a bit of funk, the mind over matter ep is a raw expression of detroit house music at its finest

jonas friedlich, better known through mistress recordings and carl gari, releases his first solo 12- on molten moods. the versatile 4 track ep starts with the rather straight -bo s breakfast- that begins with a polyrhythmic 303 bass line leading into a catchy garage-ish chorus, kicking in out of a clear sky but fittingly. -bus driver- is a wicked trip, the combination of the long acid build up and a nicely chopped vocal bit is irresistible. a proven, tested (and molten moods certified) club banger, regardless of its rather untypical breakbeat. track number 3 called -praise your name- aces groove through perfectly cut vocal samples and a fancy reference to 90s hip hop and drum n bass aesthetics. the next and last piece on the record is the eponymous -deskjet-, which is inspired by friedlichs conceptual sound art installations using printers. here rather restrained synthie lines are underpinned by a powerful kick and psychedelic tape delay noises. the 12- vinyl is handstamped on both sides. mastered and cut by scape mastering. artwork by paul bernhard.

here is a new project introducing the farmers aka konsnix : nixxon and kons istant from copenhagen and heninspace from dresden. all started with * toss your salat*, a dubby/acid jam made during a meeting in dresden for a friends birthday, after listening the track sacha mambo decided to put it out on macadam mambo. back in copenhagen konsnix started to work on * 70a-1* a ruff electro track in the viewlex style, on his side heninspace worked on * humla* a bit more atmospheric/acid tune. if you like druggy, psychedelic atmospheres this is for you.

if you love contemporary minimal music, then you are certainly familiar with the greek artist stathis leontiadis. with his bands human puppets, exetix and plexiglas this musician became one of the stars of the genre. now he is back with doric. with this solo project he already released a single and an album on fabrika and a 10- on domestica. the new release is once again a 10-, this time on peripheral minimal. doric uses a special concept. the a-side is the so-called asleep side and is about loneliness: music that sounds paranoid. sleep of reason is almost unbearable, it s madness driven by minimal electronics. everything is very danceable, but this is the dance of madness. the minimal sound comes straight from the 80s. over my dreamssounds a bit like the early parade ground. simply great! head against the wall (a title that needs little explanation) is slow and compelling.

mysterious, super-advanced, future classic white label that has been causing a bit of stir amongst the heads. very limited, get it while you can!

from the disputed border somewhere between lancashire and yorkshire, g..h. claims a no mans land where he is free to decimate distinctions between black metal, grime and concre&#768,te techno by drawing upon an elusive, metaphysical force that’s exclusively common to music rooted in that region, from muslimgauze and autechre thru shackleton and demdike stare. the inarguably mongrel housebound demigod is g.h.’s debut solo album, following the ground ep (2011) and his involvement with the hexed pendle coven project & hate, alongside miles whittaker and andy stott, respectively, between 2003 - 2009.

uvb is back with four fierce funk driven big techno tunes on his own body theory label. ranging from big bombastic festival sounds (disobey your kids) to minimalized 90s stylo loop techno (breach your trust) and the fierce closing track (yours thruthly) that sounds a bit like dark comedy on steroids. strong release!

seth troxlers play it say it label looks to sean miller for its next essential bit of dance floor dynamite. this 11th firing release on the label features two killer cuts from the canadian producer. miller has been turning out taste making tracks on a consistent basis for a decade now. releasing on mobilee, area remote and ovum he is no stranger to the best labels out there and this latest missive is another offering that will keep djs and dancers happy all summer long and beyond. the momentous a side ‘tiger spirit it’ is ten tantalising minutes of deep and seductive house music. clever drum fills, poised synth stabs and vocal coos all add oil to the groove as playful kicks punch out an infectious pattern below. this is proving to be one of key tracks in seth’s tracks this summer: ‘it’s driving the crowds wild’. ‘together’ is less physical but certainly more emotional offering. playing out perfectly effortlessly, it has swirling pads and trilling chords adding some sensuous summer sunshine to the vibe fuelled house drums below. troxler has once again unearthed a brilliant release from a talented producer right at the top of his game.

skalen ep consists of sleek, functional but no-nonsense techno variations from snitch. leading with >skalen< - a deadly, serrated tool fashioned to carve up the hardest of dance floors and takes you through the tunnel without a torch.>kromag< displays a bit more of the swing that this producer does so well adding darker atmosphere to a killer effective techno banger. the ep rounds up with a terrific laiva remix of kromag. laiva was discovered in the eastern town of kuhmo and made an appearance on wavereform before with a killer t16 record. he makes it all about dub-scuffed kicks here and pulsating bleeps throughout his version of ruthlessly straightforward, point-blank attack for the 48-hour-party people.

samo lived in hong kong for a bit. he rescued a dog and brought him back to stockholm. he skates but that’s not him on the front. he put together one of the best very records on lies but this four-tracker kills it dead. ben ufo’s been rinsing it. the dog’s name is denzil.

nice price deal !!! the title of this ep sorta says it all. its quite an important release for the label. glasgow musical connections all around! when most people think of optimo music, they think of the long-running club night in glasgow >optimo (espacio)<, which ran for 12 years every sunday…headed by jd twitch and jg wilkes. label honcho jd twitch is extremely proud to be releasing naum gabo … as this is the studio project of his optimo partner, jonnie wilkes, along with james savage. jonnie and james (formally releasing three 12 inches simply as >naum< on kompakts mighty speicher series) have been active on the scene for a while now. as well as releasing the original music on kompakt, mule, eskimo, dissident, and tinae they have provided some wonderful naum gabo reworks for hot chip, simian mobile disco, franz ferdinand, snow patrol, psychonauts and so many more… twitch has long been a fan of naum gabo so it is a bit of a coup to be getting this fantastic release: two covers of two mighty scottish acts from the late 70s/early 80s.

blawan’s new side project bored young adults is up next on will bankhead’s label the trilogy tapes. the shy dancers on bungalowdorf beach features some restrained and slow burning techno experiments that differ from jamie robert’s more usual hard-hitting sounds. the seething title track treads the same path as kassem mosse or vactrol park. the fentanyl techno of “but we need this bench” sounds like an old regis record played on -8, while devoted fans of the young uk producer’s sound will get something a bit more familiar on the menacing hypnotic techno grinder “check up from the neck up”.

swag classics centeres around some sought after reissue fare from the croydons legendary swag records label. these are 2 expensive double a side vinyl cuts - almost unaffordable if bough 2nd hand. so this is a very democratioc re release for fans of the label
(if any)think croydon and a few things come to mind, kate moss, punk band the damned, crystal palace football club, peep show and of course dubstep, the now world conquering music genre that will forever be linked to the south london suburb. what you never hear though, is any mention of tech house, another world conquering music genre. and to be honest we’re a little bit peeved about that. because if tech house has a spiritual home it’s croydon, and that is due mainly to swag records and the people that gravitated towards the humble west croydon record shop and studio.

bristols banoffee pies are back with their 11th edition. but as far it goes musically: this certainty aint bristol! starting out with the smoothly reduced tendencies of local lad christian jays rhotic which sounds inspired by the sounds of trelik, there s more of the same (albeit much dubbier and smoked out) on starry nite life courtesy of utrecht s larry de kat very paranoid afterhour vibes on this one! on the flip we ve got some more dubbed out fare courtesy of christian jay, again, who enlists a bit of help from crump on the rusty and dust coated gg3. all caps artist florist adds a touch of vancouver to proceedings with the squelchy dj tool blacky.

known for his more elegant and subtle atmospheric techno music though, conforce is never afraid of deviating from his safe zone. sometimes a change of environment can bring new musical influences and shine new light on existing musical projects. there is a small narrative about this release. what happens when you place an island boy in an multicultural harbour metropolitan city? stuff might get a little bit more rough edged from time to time. a transition from the serene tranquility of the islandic coasts to the impatient impulsiveness rush of the metropolitan city. narrative collapse ep contains music created though more impulsive machine jamming. be ready to get a fix of rotterdams real danger. play loud!

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

toms due is talented duo from etruria beat crew, they re now back once again on their home label with two bangers urania and caliope and two remixes. one from nina kravizs trip label young protégé nikita zabelin, the second from micol danieli, italian newcomer artist and owner of 030s vinyl record label. on the a side sit the two original tracks. urania is composed of a powerful techno groove on a simple but strong chord fitting perfectly on the climax of the middle of the track. second comes calliope, a toms due signature heavy rhythm with a happy techno synth melody, a must try for all dancefloors. on b side, nikita zabellin shows once again his minimal approach, pure analogue sounds with a bit of darkness. mico danielis chose to use a never ending rhythm that wont ever leave you alone, a very elaborate arrangement. keep an eye on this italian lady producer!

this compilation should enrich everybody’s soul with a mix of something for everyone who likes or wants to explore the variety of early soul tracks which are finding new favour on today’s uk soul scene. from the lesser known tracks from big name artists like aretha franklin, otis redding, gladys knight and the drifters, to established hits from the valentinos, sam cooke, steve alaimo, chuck jackson and timi yuro.

kyodais debut release on mule musiq! they have released quality house music from freerange,local talk and their own imprint beer. this time kyodai teamed up with female singer and result is very emotional vocal house tune. it reminds me bit henrik schwarz remix of ane brun-headphone silence. enjoy!

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dancefloor tracks he doesnt seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrate very well. his music is at times cinematic and theres a story behind each track. bjarkis music always has something to do with him personally, but hed rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets
