the third in the modular techno series from live analogue artist and freerotation organiser steevio. after 15 years of producing techno live on hardware, in 2009 steevio began building a dedicated machine on which he could totally improvise an entire techno performance from a blank canvas that far surpassed anything he could do with his previous setup of drum machines and synthesizers. steevio’s modular is 100 analogue, there is no computer involved, there are no memories to save sounds or sequencing patterns, and everything is improvised in real time.. volumes 1 and 2 of the series were just a taster of what was to come, and were the early experimentations on steevio’s newly built machine. steevio records everything he does, especially during the intense practice sessions for live gigs. all the music in the series are out-takes from these practice sessions, and the tracks from volume 3 and the forthcoming volume 4 all come from a three day period in practice for a recent live gig at delete, bournemouth, uk. volume 3 continues from where volume 2 left off but delivered with more confidence and a deeper more hypnotic feel. steevio continues to develop his skills and fine tunes his unique instrument in this dedicated for life project.

gacha is a young artist originally from georgia, now operating in berlin, this second ep for apollo records is an excellent six tracker that fits the apollo chillout manifesto perfectly. his music is a cinematic, glacial mix of beautiful melodies, treated guitars and tender drum programming, and two tracks on this release see him working in tandem with natalie beridze who adds her ethereal vocals for standout tracks *saysea* and *atlas*. elsewhere on the ep gacha continues the form of his last ep, working his influences from classic electronica to garage into his trademark deep and atmospheric sound.

following a busy and fruitful 2013 that saw the release of his exceptional second album half of where you live and shows worldwide, uk electronic artist gold panda next week re-issues one of his earliest releases, quitters raga. the two-track 7 inch, long since sold out, was originally pressed by make mine records in 2009, with the now-cult track still being a staple of the artists live set. newly issued on gold pandas own label notown recordings, the vinyl-only release is limited to 600 copies as a deluxe heavy pressing and features the original.

stephan laubner aka stl is a myth. a legend. releasing music on perlon, smallville and his own label something, he became a secret star to the worlwide scene of contemporary techno and house music. but still he seems to be an unknown person. on his new album release on smallville records, stl is back with a deep excursion into dubbed out science of sound.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.

described in typically self deprecating manner as a vanity imprint in the classically ornery tradition, the pear growers series is a new label from chris madak, best known for his mind bendingly good output as bee mask. the first release sees material from madaks excellent spectrum spools long player when we were eating unripe pears get treated to remixes from celebrated techno artists surgeon and abdulla rashim. anyone who has heard surgeon playing the remix on his rinse fm show will agree that his unashamedly emotive breakbeat reworking of *the story of keys & locks* is arguably one of the simplest and most affecting remixes this year. complementing this, prologue and semantica artist abdulla rashim delivers a take on *unripe pears* that will resonate with anyone that has indulged in the elusive producers recent output on his own eponymous label.

gtcm016 introduces d.k., a new artist to emerge from paris electronic underground. with an impressively accomplished sound for a debut release, this ep contains four original tracks and its all killer, no filler house in the vein of ron trent, moon b, ppu and future times

after a remix for dasos so sexy last year, the german-peruvian artist martin patiño confirms his presence on popcorn records with an entire ep. to begin with, solid ground is born from the collaboration with astrid. we already heard them on the great hunter ep on cadenza at the beginning of the year. the result of this new featuring is an original techno track with all the good components you expect from tr707 drums to a xylophone melody, in addition to the sexy and reassuring voice of astrid. the american pezzner honored us with a particular interpretation. a deep theme, with percussions, long and subtle panpipes breathe. as if pezzner was paying tribute to martin patinos roots. finally, routinary coffes comes to conclude this warm and deep record done for the sweating parties of the upcoming winter.

you know some people who, when they go out, they get lost. a melody, a face leads them away and its a wonder they ever get home. in the nighttime, in the throng, if the path of least resistance is the path unknown, its hard to know whether you should or shouldnt.
