in january the debut album the damage is done by hot coins, the disco crossbreed project by danny berman (best known for his house productions as red rack em), was released. his personal time machine journey into the sights and sounds of downtown new york sometime around the late seventies/early eighties is much more than a tribute to his heroes of those times. its also a brilliant examination of todays club music.

derek kaye married his schoolboy passions of music and electronics in 1973 when he constructed his first disco sound system, aged just 13. prior to this, with dj equipment something of a rarity in those days, he created a custom setup that bypassed the need for a mixer by rewiring his turntables in such a way that he could flip the sound from one deck to another, and installed a switch that would dip the music so a microphone from a portable cassette player could be used to announce the song on rotation. his work soon grew in sophistication and a new console was built, with his schoolmate, greg wilson, buying derek s old rig, thus beginning his own well-documented dj career.

antigone is an artists coming from the depth paris producing and digging for several years now. the three tracks are a travel in to different style of techno with the intention to reach a certain emotion that is close from nostalgia and really deep feeling. the challenge of this work was to find a good balance between sound and colour, focusing on an old sci-­&#8208,,,fi landscape. with a really mature perception this young artist is developing his own sound, a detroit atmospheres, openly characterize this ep, but it remains antigone work at the end with all his sense of details and perception.

mike storm comes from the underground scene of the 072 area in the netherlands. in the late 90s he started as a dj, soon he moved from turntables to his first equipment and started performing live-sets on various local partys. while the underground scene was highly involved electro and techno music, mike learned from it’s established djs & producers and how to work with analog equipment. as of this day, he still produces his tracks still without any computer sequencer. mike storm is most of all inspired by the sound from detroit and minimal dark techno and his biggest passion is performing live on stage. in 2012 mikes coming out of the underground scene and sees his music is being appreciated by the likes of jeff mills and dimi angelis. both djs frequently use his tracks in their sets.

i had dinner with breach in london and he told me: hey, i have a track that is really dirtybird. i would put it out but its really sounding right for you guys. i took this with a grain of salt but then i heard lets get hot and i found out he was right. it has got the swagger and the sound. it makes girls grind their asses into boys crotches on the dancefloor. perfect. signed. so i then asked him to make something even more sexual, thinking it would be ages before i got something back. 10 days later the a-side came back to me as a 2 minute clip while i was on the train to warehouse project in manchester. i liked it so much that i edited it on the train to stretch it out to 5 minute. as expected, it slayed the room and the final version breach has delivered is one of the best records of the year in my opinion. with the simple title of jack you can see for yourself when you play it. this is the real deal. love, vonstroke

vertigo is the a side on this four track ep by roberto capuano that uses reverberated kick drums and piano chords to create a groove that was designed for peak-time play. the second track, inversion uses rising and filtering synths with the use of space and influxes of pitched hi hats and percussion loops to create a 5am track that will keep people rooted to their spot. new chapter uses a repetitive percussion-like stab to keep the deep atmospheric sounds together over the industrial techno drums. the final track earth uses phased sporadic stabs to create an interesting groove that compliments the driving drums that are ever present

there once was a scene up in boston, where things werent nearly so awesome. so the kids went to cambridge where people have knowledge and there the dance music did blossom!

next up on local talk we got a raw peak hour jam from liverpool producer dale howard (lost my dog, large, morris/audio, off rec). there is nothing light or fluffy about these tracks, its just dirty straight up house music with a dark 90s basement feel. for the main track we actually chose the dub version of throwback over of the original mix. we just thought this version was soooo freakin raw even though its more stripped than the original version. you’ll see what we mean when you drop it in the club! the second track in out goes along the same house theories as throwback with jackin beats and deep chords that will do wonders in any authentic house basement. all in all, a might fine release of classic local talk house music. enjoy!

scott mou, known as one half of the duo jane – the folk techno drone duo he had with panda bear - aswell as part of manhattans famous record store other music, debuts with his soloproject queens. johan jacobsen describes the wonderful music of queens in oxymorons, colorful monochrome, myopic depth, sad joy, driven slowness, enlightened darkness, universal intimacy, ethereal earthboundness ... as it should be. queens is one of those wonderful artists who are hard to catch on the fly, who escapes easy definition. his music is an unexpected and unimagined universe ready to be explored, and it s a universe that is wonderful to be in. when dial records david lieske and peter kersten listened to a performance of their new york based friend in 2009, it was one of those unforgettable unique experiences you only have once in a long while these days. the idea of releasing an album was born. the production of end times involved other labelmates such as phillip sollmann aka efdemin (recording), kassian troyer (mixing) and hendrik weber, who once joined a life performance on stage with scott mou in 2012.
