gardens of god sodai imprint continues to unearth creative production talent from the label’s native city of vilnius with the third and latest artist from the city to feature on the label. introducing talassa barda for his debut introducing three expertly crafted techno cuts. lead track wolf has a howling big room sound effect and a dark techno underbelly. human with it’s haunting like qualities develops into a peak time monster that is sure to thunder in vast spaces over the summer. finally, bleed is a rolling acid tinged track that fuses electro, breakbeat and techno for possibly the most interesting of all three.

matuss takes techno and turns it on its head. the cybernetic sound has been filled with human emotion, giving it a more organic feel than much of the music that would fall under the genre. she opens her absence seizure 007 ep in trademark style, with a dark jacking cut entitled pitchureque, in which a pulsating bass line throbs alongside ominous acid swells and disorientating panning effects. next up, tektango takes a different route honing in on a set of live tribal tinged percussion, which sway and dissipate with hypnotic effect driven further into the depths with a bubbling synth lead and filtering atmospherics. this live percussion gives the track that organic feel mentioned earlier. escapade kick starts the b-side with a robust rhythm, built from the ground up with resonant hi hat stabs, echoing claps and sturdy kicks which forms the framework for a deranged lead melody laced with wide open synths and emotive chords to carry the groove. closing the package is fonque, where flanger-tinged snare rolls work in unison with driving rhythms, delicate arpeggios and an intricate 303 bass line to create an infectious closing cut.

in order to get lines of perspective moving, aufgang transcend their instrumentarium. from this organic corpus, they manage to extract a hand-stitched, deeply human kind of music. this exhilarating craft builds bridges between disciplines, skilfully pulling together acoustics and electronics while making bold connections between different eras. ancestral pianos are groovier than any sequencer, the synths they use are antediluvian and the drums are constantly oscillating between metal and skin. they may well be the first truly accomplished and unabashed explorers of the channel connecting various approaches which, so far, had at best only been piled up. aufgang transcend the confines of time to bring the past back into the future.

after his acclaimed heatwave and shadows mixtapes, leonce releases insurgency on fade to mind, the first official ep from the young atlanta-based producer. insurgency was born from demos and sketches first recorded in 2014-2015, inspired by leonce’s favorite elements of house music and his desire to recraft these influences into his own club microverse. in leonce’s words: “if house is a feeling, then insurgency is me subverting that feeling across different tempo ranges and going into weirder and darker territory, like the classic raw house tracks that inspired me.”

informationstechno was released on cassette in 2014 via zeon light and it was nominated for best swedish dance album of the year at manifestgalan 2015. during 2015 the band received attention from swedish radio p2 and p3 and performed a series of gigs at home in stockholm. the second album informellt was released on lamour 2015 and a remix album called reformellt released early 2016. motormännen make information techno infused with an air of swedish nostalgia through a filter of retro-futuristic skepticism. the music is packed with minimal acid loops and samples with excerpts from swedish politicians, documentaries and christer glenning, reflecting on times when the cold war and the traditional welfare state were dissolving. inhibitions were relaxed and new, foreign influences crept into the body of society and the old information monopolies. motormännen s tracks are visually enhanced by messages from pictures and videos from the 1970s and 80s.

“devotion - part 3” is the final stage of the journey into the author’s sonic environment. the pace is initially fast and energetic, with “anathema” and “prostration” exploring different areas of the frequency spectrum through mysterious yet functional techno arrangements, which then lead us to the closing track of this whole excursion, “critical devotion”, a slow-motion uplifting anthem that brings us back to the surface.

cascades is the music collaboration between two montreal-based musicians, neo-classical pianist jean-michel blais, and genre-defying grammy award-nominated electronic producer mike silver (pka cfcf). building off their sold out performance during the globally-celebrated 2016 red bull music academy, cascades is a stunning 5-song, 30-minute meeting-of-minds that navigates the spaces between the artists’ respective crafts and tendencies toward playful minimalism. featuring new versions from the duo’s catalogues, a reworking of john cage’s “in a landscape”, and a brand new, classical-meets-trance original composition, “hypocrite”, cascades is a celebration of the traditional and experimental, dissolving the old into the new.

a collaborative project, the first of a ten part series, immanence marries dub techno connoisseur zzzzra with uk photographer katelyn playford in their own artistic realisations of philosophical theories of divine presence. tasked with sound tracking immanence into four dub techno masterpieces, zzzzra’s own sensual and romantic interpretation of immanence transcends through the eyes of katelyn’s striking photography, manifesting into a visual immanent of the female aura. the resulting destination is a thought provoking piece of sensory art that implores to suggest that, much like the purity and sexuality of the female form, neither the simplicity of the visual, nor the intensity of the auditory, can exist in a world without the other.

one in a million leads with a bright 90s garage house beat reminiscent of disclosure before breaking into the kind of danceable indie-pop swagger that will excite fans of lcd soundsystem and hot chip. replete with remixes from zomby and playgroup this 12inch sets a precednt for olsson 12inch release where he kindly asks his heros to reimagine his work. in this case two of electrtonic musics most exciting and consistent names step up.

‘mind fiction’, kaczor s first release, comes with organic artwork such as a growing plant cover and simple yet sleek thai design inspired by a recent tour to southeast asia. the ep serves as a perfect example for kaczor s own artistic vision: moody textures and mellower grooves meeting his trademark raw and gritty, forceful attack-laden release of rolling drums, bass and percussion, pointing to kaczor s own roots in the more stormy outbacks of broken beats or uk bass. first track ‘balance’ starts off with a softer, textured soundscape, nicely balancing melancholy synth waves and drum rattles into an atmospheric opener with a slowly oncoming and unfurling, melodic twist. the title track ‘mind fiction’ more closely follows kaczors very own signature formula of a simple and driving bassline followed by an evocative build-up rushing into an emotional, cathartic breakdown. ‘asta’ might be kazcor s most daring and trippy production to date: an intense mixture between hypnotic, hard hitting thumps and thunderous rolling drums taking the listener into the electrifying whirl of a night-time storm, where the tense and dense, humid atmosphere culminates in a monsoon-like rainfall of spiralling reverb – marking a fitting crescendo for this impressive debut on kaczor s now very own sonic ground.

after over a year spent in a slight creative slump in a crumbling terraced house in tottenham, jam baxter rang his label boss while heavily intoxicated to request they fly him to bangkok forthwith, to rejoin forces with ‘...so we ate them whole’ producer and engineer, chemo. after an initial period of understandable hesitancy, the flights were booked and baxter found himself suddenly regurgitated from the belly of a jet airliner into the magical and surreal surroundings of ‘mansion 38’.

bondage-music head honchos pornbugs prep the labels next release for early april comprising three original tracks and a remix from mihai popoviciu. since 2006, german duo pornbugs have been pushing their minimal yet ambitious dance floor orientated house music through clubs across the globe, with their label bondage-music acting as a catalyst for forward thinking music. bondage-music also works as an outlet for other talented producers including romania’s mihai popoviciu and inmotion music signee markus homm to further develop their sound. fresh from a string of early 2017 digital releases from frink and sous sol, april sees bondage-music’s first vinyl offering of the year, kick started with the subtle and melodic cut “when you are gone“, which takes a deep groove and laces it with a plethora of soft synths and atmospherics. mihai popoviciu then reworks “when you are gone“ into a different entity, rewiring a headier groove into the track with raw-defined hats, building further tension with tight synth stabs and ethereal pads. vinyl only track “innocent“ then takes tribal tinged percussion to new depths, fuelling it with booming kicks and flourishing chords, further intensified by swirling vocals. a pure dub aesthetic then shines through “maritza“, as saturated drums and a rumbling low end provide the skeleton for swelling synths to meander alongside spiritual vocals, closing out the package.

sounds benefit returns with its third installment, and welcomes for their first vinyl ep the french duo indeëd, based in bordeaux. tib z and wimd, who make the team, delivered two powerful weapons, with an additionnal remix from one of our favorite artist - the greekest xdb. things starts on the a side with asylüm, a super strong and driving jam processed into old tape recorder, which gives to the atmosphere an unique texture and unsuspected energy. xdb s reinterpretation begins much smoother than the original track, but quickly the trademark style of metrolux s boss takes over, and brings the heat with his typical military groove. on the flip, stellär takes the listener on a different journey, warm and intense at the same time. thanks to driving rhythm sections and rolling sub bass, this classy track completes perfectly the package, for a solid winter record.
