NOVA 118 EP (SAMUEL L SESSION, JUSTIN BERKOVI REMIXES)
12"
30.10.17
to make it true and organic was the main purpose when german producer filou started his work for nova 118 ep. both original tracks, radon and scandium represent the path of techno with house influences. the tracks are rich in details and short fills which makes this a truly outstanding record. as this isn’t enough filou presents two versions of -radon- and -scandium- demonstrating where techno and house can take you. as the original concentrates on a percussive rhythm, samuel l. session’s version is arranged more classically -- a deep chord, a clear beat, accentuated hi-hats and claps. the -justin berkovi remix- carefully-placed sounds building the track into a dynamic and hypnotic whole. the percussiveness here is more profound, shaping the track in a completely different way. already massive plays by a bunch of dj-s incl. villalobos.
10 YEARS OF SCI+TEC (3LP)
3x12 Inch
30.10.17
a decade deep into its ongoing investigations, documenting and pushing the sonic frisson and fusion between science and technology, sci+tec remain at the very forefront of electronic music. its feet firmly on the dancefloor, its spirit deep inside the machines, its sights set on the future: dubfire’s label has continuously forged its own deep furrow and has been doing so from day one. with breakthrough dubfire releases such as ‘roadkill’ and ‘i feel speed’ sci+tec has managed to create a whole new framework for 21st century techno. all the while sci+tec has consistently championed and encouraged new and unsung talent from around the world, amplifying legions of rising names, davide squillace, paul ritch, shaded, simi, delete, harvard bass, joop junior and countless more include sci+tec releases in their rich histories. this precision balance of stark sonic signature, technical ideology and nurturing new ideas and talent has led to sci+tec’s perpetual momentum into every house and techno dj’s playlists and sets for the last 10 years. be it the label’s penchant for deep, undulating subby grooves or its passion for warehouse-razing thunder-powered techno, the sci+tec sound covers every corner of the floor and every chapter of the night, as proved by the label’s many world tours. and proved once again by this fittingly stacked anniversary album. 10 tracks to celebrate 10 years from 10 of the label’s most exciting artists, every track brings home the sci+tec message
ptwiggs brings the surrealist violence for brand spanking sydney imprint deep seeded. taking an erratic hairpin turn after dsr001s off-piste techno, purge comes off like a tragicomic thriller, swerving between saccharine sensitivity and brutal ultra-violence in the blink of an eye. shit is rough in ptwiggs towers, dishing out relentless tyson jabs to the head on day of wrath with holly herndons inverted poltergeist drifting about between the blows, while lara dies seems to execute your favourite video game character a trillion times per second just for laffs. but it s not all blood and guts rendered in vivid hd. coil-axis twinning of demonic and angelic energies course through yyyy and drift below the surface of the more berserk pieces. not for the faint of heart but life s probs beaten the feeling out of you at this point anyway.

london minimal techno label trapped ldn turn their attention to new talent rhys samson, who gets freaky from the get go with the snaking beats and threads of psychoactive melodies and found sounds that make up the snappily titled -paramedic to the dancefloor-. cosmjn delivers a very different kind of remix of the original that has a more discoid flavour to it, although it maintains the late night trippiness that trapped prefer overall. -religious clowns- is a deeper jam that seeks to soothe, albeit with plentiful rippling details still coursing through its veins, which alan castro capitalizes on with a remix that gets even more intricate and strange.

this album is the result of a long personal journey and is conceived as a series of small tales.on stage or on cd, the dreamlike world of renart will take you away. between solitary experimentation and acclaimed electronic performances, he keeps surprising us.renart weaves melodic and melancholic atmospheres through tales which give free rein to our interior wanderings. at the crossroads of repetitive musics, 70s psychedelic rock and modern techno, renart creates powerful nagging rhythms and sharpens his future tracks in his misty castle of malpertuis.
METTA REMIXES II (10 INCH)
10 Inch
27.10.17
as a contrasting follow-up to our first single from rooteo & mahura’s metta album, the second single on made in green records keeps the format intact with entirely different results. deadbeat’s remix on part one was both respectful and subtly transformative, on part two, new york’s upcoming max mcferren, whose busy 2015 included eps on ultimate hits, allergy season, and 1080p, brings us a startling reinterpretation of album closer harmal very much in keeping with the vein of raw, aggressive house coming from brooklyn since that scene’s resurgence. the original version of harmal finishes the album in fine style, blending tablas, celestial electronics, and short melodica phrases that gradually swell with layers of vocal samples and orchestal pads before reaching a climax and slowly dying away in gradually receding layers of ambient electronics. mcferren’s remix leads off with only a bare framework of techno percussion. the entry of a sampled section of melody from the original signals a rapid transition to more abrasive territory, with sheets of metallic noise slashing through the high end, short vocal syllables stuttering, and an insistent bass pulse building up and breaking down with at least one element constantly in motion.

berlin based producer synthek is a renowned name within contemporary techno. besides succesfully running his label natch records, he has been also a resident at the infamous tresor.
for the seventeenth installment in the string of attic music releases, synthek (luca landolfi) comes up with a staggering ep that contains a lot of adventurous drum patterns, bold arrangements and swells of daring fx.
on the a side we find “loser”, which is a brave cut of spherical yet moody techno that uses a buldging percussion line and otherwordly fx to create an ominous vibe. “uneven mind” is an exotic cut with tough drum sounds that uses a hypnotic synth swell that cuts throughout to create an alarming atmosphere. french producer and concrete resident antigone comes up with an uplifting (eight minutes long) remix for “uneven mind” on the b side which is beautifully orchastrated throughout. “faithless” is a percussive cut with intense fx blips.

180 gram, vinyl only.
alessio mereu joins andrea ferlin to create a brand-new duo: aleandro. the two sardinian artists have both been producing for a very long time, but this collaboration promises to deliver quality with 1921 ep.
the a-side kicks off with 19, a soothing track with a strong presence of modulated synths and pads, perfectly balanced with deep basses and kicks. its continual bassline only encourages the rest of the instruments to develop organically, making this one a very special journey throughout its length. the b-side 21 is more influenced by techno with heavier kicks and basses. the duo use trippy sonorities to catch people’s attention but beware: this track will even make your grandparents boogie!

aula magna records presents atmen by mekas, a storming record that reveals the artist s latest techno explorations in full effect, featuring stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik as guest remixer. a techno statement shaped by melodic and rhythmic interactions that draw the listener into the artist’s profound sound world.
the a-side opens with the powerful beat of clark nova, a cut that moves forward with a modulating synth line and simple but cleverly designed percussions. this is followed by unknown soldier, an intense techno weapon that reflects the distinctive sound of mekas.
the b-side features both versions of atmen, starting off with par grindivik’s dance-floor rework of the title track that combines a fresh arpeggiated motif and a powerful groove with the emotional spirit of the original. atmen closes the record, an epic ambient techno track built with deep atmospheric synth lines on an intelligent stripped down breakbeat.

3x12 Inch LP
26.10.17
1800haightstreet finally break a years hiatus in the caves of vancouver to come roaring back onto lobster theremin with a bumper album of long-awaited otherworldly techno experiments.
with that classic, depth-charged warehouse sound blending the heavier side of detroit techno with a shot of basic channel atmospherics and a rickety stepped uk edge, this is a real time-stamp set into stone. a spectral rotation through the deeper sides of 4/4 with each slice coated in a dazzling array of synth programming, heavily effected interstellar rhythms and processing that goes from scorched & crusted to clean and undulating as each side is flipped.
a refined and considered document spanning the many elements of techno that sees thumping deepness (vanisher, super intelligent, psychic) collide with crunchy, straight-down-the-line stompers (the ram, endless, razor, diagonal iris), blistering heaviness (flood, intuitionist) and galaxian dub techno (past life memory).
overall, a truly inspiring body of modern techno from one of the finest and most standout new artists in canadian electronic music.

“i didn’t plan to go back to grindhouse. it’s a monster of a record and undoubtedly the biggest release we’ve had on the label, but after 10 years it seems right to revisit the track and also add some new versions from some of my favourite techno producers.- – radio slave with danton eeprom’s vocal resonating throughout, faki’s first remix features crunchy snares, ominous chords and shuffling effects before piercing synths come into effect in the latter half. meanwhile, the second version rumbles forward with its undulating bassline, soaring atmospherics and echoing elements to round up two solid productions exemplary of the figure founder’s seasoned abilities in the studio.

litüus returns to avian.
sparse and reflective, the chicago native’s work occupies a curious space on the periphery of the techno genre. by stripping back the music to all but its most vital elements - most notably the sequence, but at the same time maintaining a sense of urgency in its articulation, litüus crafts exquisite, ghostly shadows of busier, more fleshed out material. neither intro nor outro, but rather suspended in some middling point of formation - what remains is a remarkably pure examination of minimalist, experimental synthesis.

sonic groove’s latest high octane addition to the roster is berlin based british artist rebekah. rebekah has led a successful artist and dj career in the techno scene over the past five years with releases on the prolific clr and soma imprints as well as her own labels elements and decoy. her soma album from a few months ago entitled “fear paralysis” shows her artistic skills of having a wide range of flexibility as she weaved through many styles of techno from deep to hard.
taking her artistry into further realms of sound construction, rebekah ventures into a much harder industrial techno terrain with her latest four cut release entitled “into the black”. designed specifically with sonic groove in mind. “loose mechanics” & “conquest” are ferocious industrialized peak time techno pulverizers that will turn stone into dust.
“into the black” is an advant garde broken beat track with a pitch shifting, hauntingly dissonant string drone would be the perfect score for a sci-fi horror flick while “war cry” turns the blackness into a lighter shade of grey with it’s complexly designed chord driven emotions layered over a very intricately programmed drum rhythm.

2x12 Inch LP
20.10.17
rodhad’s debut album ‘anxious’ sees the artist step away from the dancefloor and further develop the narrative qualities of his beautiful soundscapes. it was the natural next step to present the sound he began cultivating with his recent eps “kinder der ringwelt” and “söhne der erde” as a full length lp. the experience the album is trying to convey is being thrown into a world that is ready to crush you.they have you with your back to the wall, and you are ready to give way to despair. will you be able fight back? how is it even possible? rodhad is the spearhead of a new generation of techno producers and djs. with his bass heavy grooves and dubby atmospheric soundscapes he is a sonic guide, knowing exactly where he wants to take the crowd, leading through the inexhaustible sounds of techno music in all its beauty and gloom. he fully immerses himself into the music, yet never loses himself. growing up in berlin’s rougher outskirts, as a teenager he was able to grasp the final flashings of berlin’s mythical nightlife of the 1990s at legendary places casino and ostgut. in the late 2000s the dystopian crew began their own series of parties and then the label with two seminal releases by rodhad, “1984” and “blindness”.
aaaron joins forces with newcomers deckert and singer valentine to unveil the new title track for connected. the three combine all the talents of each individual to create something really special. while aaaron provides a sub heavy african inspired groove pattern and combines it with deckert’s intense harmonies, valentine finishes off the track with her touching voice performance and lyrics that are both melancholic and deep. wether you listen to it on your odyssey through the night or while watching the sun rise again: if you had to choose a hymn for your last night on this planet, ‘l.d.o.e.’ might be your future pick. floyd soaks up everything that was happy, bright and ancestral and pushes it straight into the void twisting it into a hypnotic techno chant where leftovers leave nothing but ashes behind. perfect for a rough peaktime approach or the early morning hours when the storm is hitting the coast. this track is a predator and will haunt you in your dreams through an endless jungle of insanity.
