walking through the sky, five years ago christian naujoks, peter m. kersten and richard von der schulenburg started a series of spontaneous recording sessions without any intention or idea. the only thing what held the group together were the immediate results hitting the three musicians straight inside their hearts. jazz as a metaphor of instrumental conversation, improvisation in the most dillettant way, science as a matter of exploring the opposite sound of what instruments were built to, these might be parts of a concept where there was none.

over the course of his twenty-plus-year-long career, luke solomon has made one hell of a name for himself: he has released dozens of singles and eps on labels like crosstown rebels, rekids, cajual, and playhouse, to name a few, founded his own imprint, classic, with longtime friend and co-conspirator, derrick carter, dropped four albums, and had a hand in well over 100 remixes. as one might expect, it is a tremendous honor to now welcome the veteran dj and producer to lph, where we think he fits in perfectly, despite being the artist in our ranks with the most impressive tenure.

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

across seven tracks of widescreen ambient music, 45 minutes of visuals shot over four years in multiple countries, seven photographs, and a multi-sensory, multiple channel live performance, willits has created something which might better be thought of as an experience than a simple album. opening features willits latest music since ancient future, his 2012 collaboration with japanese pianist ryuichi sakamoto, and his recent production and mastering work on tychos awake. the vibrant, enveloping sounds we have come to expect from him are on full display. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

last year accidental records released herbert complete, a 130- track boxset featuring herberts entire extensive back catalogue. it included rare and unreleased tracks from the mid 90s right up to the critically acclaimed bodily functions and scale albums. though this might have felt like the closing of the doors for matthew herberts house moniker, particularly with the ever forward-thinking producer having moved onto making music out of an exploding bomb, a shopping list, a club and even a pig, this thankfully is not the end for this side of the prolific composers output. following last months release of the 4-track ep part 6 comes the unsurprisingly titled part 7.

if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

the dixon avenue basements jams star ascends to the heavens and beyond with a cold crushin killer from modini. these are bonafide summer jams, just in time for the lick of heat we re having and perfect for slamming on whilst you scrape the melted tarmac off the road with a twig and guzzle bombastically coloured fizzy drinks. or alternatively, if you happen to be a fully grown-ass person, a 3-day roof party might do the do. the cut of modini s jib takes the shape of fully fledged funk cloak woven from the silk of the brazilian wandering spider, and adorned with jewels purchased on the black market from what is believed to have been a cache belonging to black caesar, most likely from his days of pillaging the florida keys circa 1718ad. bleepy house jams and halloween synth flurries belting out the mix, slabs of knee-grazing boogie and bulldozing dance floor drama - modini: hear thy name and know the essence of rhythmic grooooove. with this release dabj presents the first in a series of limited edition monotone prints (pictured below) from dan axon - simple ink on paper describing the energy of dabj, it s origins, people, music, direction and future.)

in times where a rave feels pretty much like a funfair, the chairoplane is still the nicest ride. thinking of kettenkarussell some might remember one of those gathered moments in a low summer night under the clear sky when things made sense for a while. but those memories fade away quite fast or seem really strange a few years later on youtube. so what is it that is left behind? after 10 years of collaboration the couple decided to do an album that might challenge the comfort zone of those who try to keep up that easy living. its a record full of holes. and still this is what keeps them together. in pain we trust... and yes i believe you and me will make love forever...

this holographic release was inspired by black hole thermodynamics. in the case of omni, the insight was that the sound content of all fallen objects might be contained in surface fluctuations of the event horizon. siren to siren is microscopically random, like a hot gas. a known configuration of classic tape sounds has zero entropy: there is nothing random about binary configurations. if one throws a hot gas with entropy into the g count, the entropy would disappear - producing aggressive bandwidths, and ragga baselines.

following their ongoing relationship with soma records, ukrainian duo woo york are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. entitled i am against, both the main track and the ep itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the ukrainian people. fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. you might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from january’s clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. the ep also features a special remix from uk techno producer, Ø phase. music-wise the ep presents the same idea: the epic energy of the title track highlights the drive that was fuelling peaceful individuals to go out onto the streets and fight for their rights. an excellent remix from Ø phase follows a similar path, although in its own original way that has made the uk-based artist’s name associated with the finest techno to date. closing the ep ‘in the end’ is a more abstract side of woo york’s music works that reminds us once again: every single act of violence is bound to come to an end at some point.

drawing from an acute sense of what could perhaps be described as deep minimalism-turned-into-a-quasi-equatorial-feast, full of holes gradually unfolds and weaves its fabrics in ways that are evocative of the disparate sensations and heady feelings one might run into in a proto-ritualistic setting, whilst xdbs recontextualisation routes a more linear but no less absorbing excursion.

its a great pleasure to announce the first release from mexican duo 4004 & sebastien vorhaus. they might not run as fast as speedy gonzales, but their music is super hot, deep and raw! yeah you know we like that at quintessentials…… 4004 & sebastien vorhaus work together as well as solo and their work has already been signed by the almighty faces records (pablo valentino and mcde). plus they also set up their own label, vicario musique, so these are definitely names to watch. viva mexico!

treat your dj right releases seidensticker & salour from hamburg. some of you might know jakob seidensticker as one of the masterminds from wareika whose productions have been released on labels such as perlon and visionquest amongst others. after years of playing as a dj-team in hamburgs famous clubs like ego, waagenbau, purgatory etc, they are eager to focus on their own house-influenced production style.

catalognumber 23 – what else is to say? while we are feeling the spirit of william s. burroughs blessing this very vinyl-enigma, &me went particularly mysterious ways to transcend the category - dance track - for this one. the meditation through bass had been the major discipline of some of his latest cuts, but what you will find on this a-side, one could certainly call the perfection of somnambulistic peaktime-fever. the way he is kneading the lower frequencies, how he is channeling the expansion and decay of bass must inevitably lead to some aroused moaning. good vocal-selection, for that matter! then there are those tension building synths and a staccato-frenzy in the break that might be the ultimate ecstasy-trigger of the season. * locust* on b comes in with some smoothly looped e-guitar-coolness, adding whispering hi-hats and a comparatively rich percussive architecture. but then again: rolling bass barrels like a signature and a defence breaking build up thats ensued by liberating pressure compensation in mighty breaks. two demonstrations of understated and sophisticated peaktime-emphasis, so to say. or differently put: a flawless double-a-side.

after some great response from 005 we seem to have a little groove on here and we are ready 006 with what might be my personal favorite ep so far, i find it very hard to choose a favorite here - i hope you do too!

2014 is doses year. known by his grandma as chris truman, dose is one mutherfucka of a kiwi. hailing from the broken city of christchurch and recently relocating to auckland, mr truman, has knuckled down to finally bring us his long awaited debut lp, mind the future. you might agree its quite an lp too – giving fans and champions of doses music an exiting and varied platter of his sound from driving and energetic cuts right through to tracks with a deeper, intimate style. since his first release in 2006 dose has forged a solid reputation as one of the top solo d&b artists to come out of new zealand. consistent releases on a vast spectrum of top labels including ram, renegade hardware, shogun audio and commercial suicide combined with dj sets of exceptional power, depth and quality, dose has built a well respected reputation as both a dj and producer. the 2x12 vinyl format comes with the full 12 track lp download.

a lush 90s vibe haunts this first offering by new parisian talent voiron, but not one of simple nostalgia - one of real class. the glittering layers, futuristic architecture and spaceship motions of opener -radôme- bear the true density of some early warp and reflex classic productions. one doesnt need to go any further to feel that the sleek skyline and mental landscapes voiron draws here might be the natural extension of those started by aphex twins selected ambient works or even 808 states hacienda dance cuts.

after the very successful foray into split eps, luv shack records continues to explore this concept with luv013. the ep sees upcoming duo space echo make a return after their smash hit -soul power-, while the b-side is conducted by wahlberliner rotciv. -come back home-, the opening track by space echo, is a slowly building but effortlessly captivating piece of hypnotic house music with a raw funk attitude. the gently evolving synth line and the strong vocal hook are the spine of this anthemic track. the seemingly laid back -hangover- just oozes b-movie sleaze and might be space echos little hommage to 60 s lounge music, with an array of distorted guitars and soft pads coming to good use. that is until the synth theme kicks in mid-track and turns the piece into a late night weapon.

pauls rather unique vocals lie somewhere between david bowie and richard butler of the psychedelic furs. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. each lp includes 2 postcards with live photos, a list of instruments used and quotes, that are suitable for mailing. this collection highlights a lost duo with a big sound on par with ultravox, human league, omd or devo.

tiagos interzona 13 label has two sold out and superb eps to its name already and we are very happy to present their third. tiagos unique reputation as a dj is matched by the distinctive quality of his productions primeira visao sounds like a track that might emerge in the mix on a vintage chicago cassette, iberican jazz-funk top lines and raw, snapping drum machines beneath. segunda visao could quite easily be a vintage black cock or noid release, a wonderfully psychedelic disco rewire, that goes way beyond the world of ten a penny edits finally cruzar facas takes a tougher path to dancefloor emancipation, marrying a fierce, pitched down techno groove to some seriously heady soundscape and tonal effects another beauty then from this outstanding, diverse and incomparable imprint.

four cuts on hurting might be the most appropriate title for this collection of tunes. heavy bassline tool techno in its purest form, for your sets.

upwellings is vincent raude, a professor of modern art at the academy of brest who has been releasing dub and reggae music since 1996 and has written music for contemporary dance and theater. he created his dub project lower groundz in 2004 where he experimented with reggae and in 2008 started his dub techno project upwellings under which he realized several 1s. his music was supported and charted by people like cio d or, laurent garnier, alexkid and more. upwellings music shows a great deal of recording knowledge and love for the details of electronic music. his a-side track zu zurich has a classic dub techno surface but we believe the skillful complexity on many levels will have us listen to this track many many times. there are things to discoverin >zurich< one might say. so it is no surprise that the flip side track >lower ground< shows more reggae influences which he uses in more abstract ways, employing vocal splinters he masterfully embeds in his recording.

ever since digitalism played boiler room at 2013s !melt festival the internet has been asking what this track might be. there have even been bootlegs made from the audio, but the version we release on vinyl was the one that lit up dancefloors from i love techno in belgium to genban in tokyo, output in new york and razzmatazz in barcelona.

while some of you might think of planet rhythm as one of those old labels from back in the day, it may not necessarily be the correct judgement. not only is it a product of its past achievements, but it is also pushing things forward in the present time, with woo york being one of a few new artists emerging from the imprints recent catalogue. that said, 2014 starts with ukrainian duo taking over planet rhythm headquarters as the labels proprietors and getting in charge of all of its future development. first out of press is the duos own ep highlighting their shift towards brand new, hardware-driven studio setup. from abstract tb-303-ish structures of acid rain, through the building peaks of analogue swamp, a perfect example of stripping functional techno, to come closers uplifting trance-y melodies and the closing sequence of strobe 1, this record is shaping up to be woo yorks strongest release to date.

in the not so distant past, a certain chicago house sound found its way to clubs worldwide. a jacking house sound made up of anything producers could get there hands on. if you had a cool alarm sound, you could throw it under a 909 and watch dancers freak out. dj rafaels new ep for on the prowl is a nod to that era. while hes not using an alarm as his tool, youll notice the in your face style in which its based upon. some of you might know rafael from his earlier miracles club releases for cutters and mexican summer. this time around rafael fauria joins friend brian foote for some on the edge jack tracks which are both packed with acid and foot stomping percussion.

all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. each lp includes a 12-page booklet with excerpts from darrin huss diary, unpublished photos of psyche with dwayne, and an essay by darrin reflecting on psyche s past and the goettel legacy as well as lyrics. this collection is a glimpse at the early canadian industrial scene and the roots of skinny puppy. go take a walk in the past with an ear for the future you just might learn something.

parts 3 of the amazing celebrate release on 12 inch... part 3 starts with a bang and -in der weltraumdiskothek- by mysterious dresden based producer dc production. if youve ever wondered what music would be played at the night club of the ewoks this tune might be the answer. -nuthin wrong here- is scherbe to the bone with his stumbling beats, dirty synths and heartbreaking samples. we also have a big heart for disco here at the valley and this is proven by sandrow m & k_chico who put a smile on our face with catchy guitar licks, bouncy bass lines and cheesy vocals. -space dancer-, what more could you desire? finally, filburt from leipzig brings things down to a peaceful end with his slightly melancholic -my time-.

is it his love for details that made him known as the micronaut? at least the atmosphere of his productions evolves from a multitude of intricate elements. these little bits and pieces might be of very different nature but together they complement each other in perfect harmony, creating the big picture, the panorama of a soundscape that is one of a kind.

for its first release of 2014, sammy dees ultrastretch label has called upon monsieur georget. youre forgiven if the name is unfamiliar. his bio offers few clues—he likes his bicycle, vin rouge and analog hardware, the latter of which was apparent on his recent debut for le loup and seuils hold youth label. bold and auspicious, the ep may have left you wondering if it was something more than a first record. and as it turns out, monsieur georget is none other than chris carrier, the long-active french purveyor of hypnotically minimal house.luckily we werent left waiting for very long for more material from carriers new alias. his second release, le vicieu / colle de la bonette, shows that monsieur georget and monsieur dee share an affinity for pared down, wonderfully elastic club tracks. like carriers best work, the compositions themselves are minimalist, but their hardware-based sound pallet ensures theres plenty of meat on the bones. a-side le vicieu is a subtly melodic shuffler, where deep bass growls at the core of an expansive drum set and whispers suffuse the negative space with mystery. on the flipside, colle de la bonette takes the sound someplace stranger and more psychedelic. whatever weird place were whisked off to, though, its every bit as funky, with brittle drums undulating to the kicks deliciously irregular throb. >monsieur georget< might be a brand-new name, but we’re willing to wager you ll quickly get to know these rollers well.

xdb returns on dolly with the ganivon ep, the follow-up of his excellent recago ep from 2011. xdb is once again delivering the goods, with 3 top-notch contemporary techno tracks filled with his trademark hypnotic melodies, lush strings and solid groovin beats. favourite is tonik with its classic detroit-feel and special atmosphere. berlin/berghain based answer code request is doing the remix job for ganivon, resulting in an effective techno bomb which perfectly combines industrial techno elements with the dolly feel. recago might have been hard to surpass, but xdb might just have done it. big!
