jami bassols has been a close member of hivern since its beginnings as one half of aster. now, following the release of noche/ templo, his two acclaimed edits for nvh, he returns to the label with his solo debut as jmii. in thrills, the barcelonian producer displays a sound that s equally raw and lively, with a very personal sense of quirkiness. the title track is jmii s most expansive production to date. an uplifting house number built around an elastic bassline and sprinkled with a bubbly arpeggiated melody, echoed vocal snips and ravey pads. bailar is a sort of lunatic take on chi-house, with a crude bassline, psychotic organ chords and feverish percussion coming together to form an ultra-infectious groove. tightbrass follows a similar path, but conducted by frenzied synthetic horns that bring to mind a marching band of manic robots. in his remix, comeme s christian s. brings the track to a darker territory, reducing it to it s core elements and focusing in a nasty bassline that will for sure cause serious damage in the dancefloors in the upcoming months.

bottenvikans silverkyrka is a northern sweden congregation that preaches through their machine music: acid techno infused with the message of infinity in the tradition of the swedish revival movement. in their first release “det stora uppvaknanet” (the great awakening), bottenvikens silverkyrka distributes their faith and hope that more people will be saved and make their own acid revival meetings. there are tracks for the acid baptism, communion and for the dance revival.

last year saw the mysterious garage shelter make their debut appearance on skylax, and little is still known about them! all we know is they are back with some freshness on the skylax classic sublabel. first up is bring back love, a track that will sink its claws in with that infectious vocal sample hook. sticking with the old school sample vibe is the lonely heart dub of attempt, it’s a bit more mellow but still has plenty of groove in it. friend of the garage shelter, dj la foudre, appears over on the b side with it’s alright (signal st mix). still on that catchy sample tip, it features one of the grooviest bassline and funky guitar pairings i’ve heard in a long time. next up, perception 66 is a smooth house affair from yet another friend, asa no hikari. rounding out the package is garage shelter’s own you (still), a dreamy pad-driven track that may indeed be the pick of the release. while we don’t know much about garage shelter, we can’t help but look forward to what they come out with next!

on his first release for berceuse heroique, rotterdam’s finest dj overdose meets one of the strongest producers of detroit, mr. ob ignitt. overdose creates the best soundtrack for a “march of the robots” scene with dead city. the mighty bounce of early dr. dre productions meets some nasty electro carnage. on sorry to disappoint you can hear the classic west coast electro sound of some of his older releases mixed with some funky sci-fi synth lines. then, ob ignitt takes this monster of a tune and creates one of the gnarliest house tunes of this year with a proper g funk bassline that will properly test your sound system on a good night.

tresor records proudly presents the second chapter in mønic’s musical journey on the label. head of osiris music, mønic is an accomplished producer whose style can be defined as raw yet exceptionally refined, allowing for a certain industrial inspiration to ooze from his exquisite sound design. ‘four sides of truth’ opens a conversation between pristenely defined low frequencies and an infinity of fleeting, chirping synth layers. this discussion will continue throughout the record, taking additional drums into the exchange and swirling into ‘point to the sun’ in full panning effect. on the other side, lower frequencies undoubtedly take over and win the argument in ‘self doubt is worthless’. uk-based kamikaze space programme contributes with a revisited version of ‘morse’, initially released on the parsons hill ep. preserving the abrasive textures of the original, ksp dramatically raises the track’s thrilling factor.

news of the record first broke back in december, when omar-s, real name alex omar smith, contributed a three-hour mix for ra’s 500th podcast. the lp will be smith’s fifth full-length release, and arrives three years after his most recent album, 2013’s thank you for letting me be myself. like almost all of the detroit artist’s catalogue so far, the best lands on smith’s own fxhe records. it comprises 11 tracks, featuring collaborations with fellow motor city acts such as norm talley, ob ignitt and kyle hall.
