the fourth release from palms & charms sees the return of label co-owner barnaby bruce, ruminating on the perils of fine fabric care. we ve all been there – a lengthy session on the dancefloor playing havoc with the pile of your velvet coat. faced with this dilemma, barnaby reaches for the battered volume, passed down through untold generations of his family, detailing archaic yet uncannily effective methods for extending the life of even the most exquisite textiles. as he does so, the percussive jazz-tinged boogie of sweat on velvet takes over his mind, unleashing a wave of dancefloor euphoria. not to be outdone, pete herbert (reverso 68), unveils his own masterful fabric care techniques, providing a remix that will starch your collar and shake out the creases. not the same clothes, but something brand new. freshly attired, barnaby begins to notice curious and somewhat unsettling noises coming from the next room. he gingerly opens the door, and is confronted with a seance in full swing. strangers sitting around his dining table wait with baited breath for word from the other side. but the unearthly howling of tortured spirits is quickly silenced by the devilish groove of seance fiction. as the arp makes its entrance, every soul is up and dancing. finally, barnaby bruce also provides the eminently useful go go percussion dub of sweat on velvet – rounding out a sartorially elegant ep with something for everyone, from sceptics to lost souls.

returning to hakt after his 2013 single n1, cale parks continues to chart a compelling new path with the lagoon fool ep, his second foray into solo production. as the current drummer for yeasayer and a prolific collaborator both in studio and live, cale’s creativity knows no genre. the five tracks on offer sneak from the beaten path, complicating signifiers of style, gently tweaking the standard grammar of club music, and remaining accessible all the while. assembled in his brooklyn studio, but sonically sourced from his grandparents’ tennessee farm, lagoon fool carries that sublime, somehow inviting ethos of the appalachian range. airy and tectonic at once, impeccably detailed, yet easily taken as a whole, it’s a rich, deceptively layered listen. as a skilled songwriter and a produce quickly proving his caliber, cale has composed a suite that demands multiple listens and a place at peaktime just the same

blludd, the natural fusion of bullion and judd. since meeting in 2011, jesse hackett of elmore judd and nathan jenkins (bullion) have been writing and recording songs together as musical relations.

a year and a half after black merlin (george thompson) opened the common thread series with the much praised new world fantasy / ice house release george sent over some adventurous bits for a follow up and we were immediately sold. george is a true artist in his own right. all of the black merlin tracks evoke different sentiments. this time around the feeling it bring up is very conflicted. both tracks have those dark aesthetics with elements of paranoia and both also share some apocalyptic elements. it is for this reason that this is the perfect follow up for ct01. instead of just releasing music on vinyl we (with the blessings of zoroaster) are looking to evoke spirits, cross boundaries and maintain quality. major cliches, but with an artist like black merlin on your books, cliches sometimes become truth.

from newcastle to london via the midlands comes tough luck records, a label ran by four friends - chris cue, rebel, twon and anna wall. pressing vinyl as well as releasing digitally, their debut release was named single of the month by mixmag (uk) in august 2013 and like a fine wine the label has been getting better with age. with the follow up releases also selling out, the label has featured music from ed davenport and the jaydes (bloody mary & attan). the last release which featured rising star elliot adamson, picked up dj support from people including ten walls, breach, dan curtain and adam shelton to name but a few. this new release features two original tracks from jack wickham who has fast been carving out a name for himself with releases on one records, drumma and get physical music, with forthcoming releases already signed to visionquest and air london. remixes coming from nikola gala and jonny lawrence. pressing on blue vinyl.

polo is the odds-on of kann s favorite djs. as a longterm label friend finally he makes his debut on the hometown label. with „route“ he modulated 4 trippy mental and uncomplaining tracks that accord with his dj sets as decent but mindblowing journeys into deepest house & techno. welcome polo!

this release captures kicks, rhythms, and snares—only to drag them kicking and screaming into a metallic underworld. in j. tijn’s echo-sphere, there are only allusions to the status quo of sound and beats, and never a full-fledged embrace of the conventional. on side a’s “kanon v.i.p.” a grizzly digital war is left to play out between both kick and snare, with grainy battle lines drawn around upbeat and downbeat. survivors of the conflict are rewarded with a groove reminiscent of grime, if only the genre had been reborn in a dystopian future. side b opens with a roughneck beat on “mor” before turning its hand into a fist and effectively destroying its own image. the groove lives through this barrage of sound, but as a heavy and dark undercurrent just strong enough to remind you where j.tijn’s roots are. “shy” lures you in with a rounded electro kick, before glutting the rhythm and ushering in a wall of sound. a snowstorm of screaming drum samples proceed to surround you: you may have been here before, but you are somewhere rhythmically unseen. embedded in all of these tracks are perhaps a sign of the times: the things that used to be seen as normal have now changed and mutated.

bolivian - born dj s, producers and duo animal print ( aka lecter and marco cuba ) are covering a wide spectrum of sonic and artistic possibilities, from the minimalist, bouncy original mix of -kites for august,- elegantly playing with a mixture of uplifting and dark vibes, to the extremely reduced and highly effective thunders, the relentless, almost epic red moon, and the percussive, hypnotic by orion each track can be appropriate for a different situation, but in the end they are all aiming for the same goal: to create an absorbing soundtrack for unifying experiences on the dance floor.

we are proud to present our second release: a split ep between coldgeist & côme, mastered at dubplates. on the side a we have ‘nocturnal’ and its spatial atmosphere from côme, including a remix from in aeternam vale. the minimalism of the original track and the subtle evolution of the bells evoke a wandering through the abyss of a cold night until the final take off. a perfect opening act for this ep. in aeternam vale s remix sounds astonishingly powerful, cold and caustic with its uncompromising minimalism, but also provocative and capable to smash your ass on the dance-floor. on the flipside, ‘nommos’ original track from coldgeist and the remix from alexey volkov bring the power of industrial tones. coldgeist delivers a 7 minutes track which penetrates progressively into our intimacy. the deep atmosphere reinforced by the repetition of ternary patterns allow to approach a mesmeric state.

latest wicked bass instalment comes from lost 1990s tapes of an underground estonian production group, hupnosaurus. side a opens with muru, a simple ballad with its stripped kicks and funky string bass that gradually reach a lo-fi acidic house condition with psychedelic swirls appearing every now and then. bookworms provides a remix treatment with thick, multi-layered overdriven & looped madness that strips the original to a simple bassline and occasional industrial stabs. on side b, always in n out starts out as unorthodox blend of a classic techno kick and speed garage percussion, but after a long building spacey pad breaks into a classic filtered house tune with transposed chords and cut-up vocals that runs until the end of the track. the last title track demonstrates heavy stomping kicks, swinging hats, familiar psychedelic whirls and a trippy, crushed vocal sample appearing out of nowhere questioning where am i?

uabos, aka matteo pepe, is a young and rising start from the fashion capital of europe. this milan musician melts the mediterranean with 707 attitude, connecting his homeland with the iconic floor grooves of chicago. warbling acid warmth gives way to spiralling female samples as dusk sets in. the track is pure golden sunshine. tweaked bars are woven through clean drums to form an energy-filled track of explosive properties. polished rhythm patterns scaffold the ep. from this solid base flow clever melodies and dancefloor subtlety. 303s trickle against thick and rich chords for the textured tones of abc dream . uabos grabs his audience, holding them with hypnotic harmonies and an entrancing elegance. but with that is an intoxicating funk, one epitomized in the drill . toms and pads introduce. snares snap as a deep and dense build is constructed, layers bubbling arpeggios support cascading chords for a chitown streaked disco romp. the finale, squash , is living musical liquid. a syrup of synthesized squawk squirms under soaring notes and crisp beats for a jackin infusion.

spanish techno purveyors exium make their debut on detroit underground with a smashing ep of thunderous, mind-altering techno. from the restrained beginning of true force, you might not know you are in for shock therapy, but midway through the a1 cut, the intent becomes clear.

finale sessions founder michael zucker steps into the limelight with his first full ep for the label in the five years it has been running. zucker has of course featured on a handful of split releases from finale but he doesn t waste any of the space afforded here with a quartet of superb and varied productions. leading the way, techno track his spirit bristles with life and percussive energy whilst inner city peace will likely raise some interested eyebrows in west london thanks to its killer broken beat programming. face down, zucker dips into his personal archives for an unreleased and rather crisp remix of introspective and jenifa mayanja hookup when the rain comes down whilst the wonderfully named spiritual graffiti ends the release on a high note

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

meanwhile returns having celebrated its 10 year anniversary, not by releasing a swanky box set, but by taking a year off. first release on the fully rejuvenated meanwhile is from sen aka john shern who forms part of the satellite religion collective along with g.r.i.t, future thought tapestries, channel 73 and space_ci. here he delivers 25 minutes of deepest machine music spread over 2 tracks. a side future thoughts jazz is a deep drifting detroit infused journey through the far reaches of outer space, while the b side wars of truth(reseen) is an epic slice of heavy clanking industrial rhythms and deep textures. the release is also the first to feature artwork commissioned by sometime meanwhile recording artist samuel van dijk aka mohlao, inward content, vc118a, multicast dynamics. so, both sonically and visually this release sits perfectly within the meanwhile catalogue of quality not quantity.

myk derill is one of the most interesting dub-techno artists. here he offers four great tracks of high quality and class. never hard but never soft. myk derill takes a turn for a more broken rhythm industrial looped with vocal.

markantonio can rightly be described as one of italys true techno titans, working tirelessly as he has since the late nineties to bring the tougher side electronic music into the light. recording for labels such as marco carolas design music, billy nastys tortured records and umeks recycled loops, markantonio has spent the last 16 years on the cutting edge of quality techno but it was with the launch of his analytic trail imprint in 2001 that he perhaps truly came into his own. the label became a hotbed for emerging and established names as markantonios own productions sat alongside releases from the likes of jospeh capriati, davide squillace, rino cerrone, & paco osuna. away from the studio he established himself as a global dj, taking his own unique sound on to the road, across europe and beyond and garnering fans wherever he went.

evan caminitis slow but steady progression towards electronic music from sand-swept guitar drone mirrors the pace of the music he makes. it has been measured, each move well-considered and clearly intentional. caminiti has immersed himself in electronic production on meridian, creating organic sounds through his machines, patching sounds that recall the brassy resonance of horns and hazy choral clusters. synthesizers hiss and crackle under layers of reverb and fog. sounds undulate and implode in upon themselves, with bursts of noise dropping in and out to create shadows of rhythm. caminitis electronic systems do not run autonomously - the sounds heard on meridian required real-time human interaction to bring them to life, and that human touch is essential to the mysterious atmosphere he produces on this new album.

slowmotion is born from a collaboration between hakim murphy and vince noog. noog has been rocking more on the techno tip over the years with releases on his label, but when the collaboration took place, beat-down feels appeared causing some house jams to develop. the ep is called beats from lugdunum, but why? lugdunum is the old school name for lyon and the surrounding areas, and these tunes were conceptualized, composed, and beated right there.

frits wentink launches his new label bobby donny with ‘live fast, dwayne young’. bobby donny has been set up to primarily feature frits wentink’s own tracks, but focusing on the wonkier, more lo-fi house edge of his sound. the emphasis will be on tracks that are hardware jams on rhodes, juno 60 or mpc, then structured later. frits wentink has already garnered a huge fanbase for his quirky, innovative and characterful house music on a number of forward thinking labels like wolfskuil, 2020vision, heist and wolf with his recent debut album, ‘rarely pure, never simple’ on the latter, gaining much critical acclaim.

every week end im going to concrete to listen the artists who are playing there. i m talking about music with them , and do the same with people sharing the dancefloor with me. i collect all these inputs and ideas, all this energy, to define what concrete music dna is. because of this variety of people, tastes, and point of views, the label can t be reduced to one and only genre. to make the music more easy to apprehend, we are splitting the label in 3 parts, 3 differents moods, or more precisely, 3 times of the day... concrete music 7am contains the kind of music you could easily listen in our club at dawn, when the light is blue and the sun starts to filter through the mi-closed shutters. minimalistic, freaky or mellow, but always deep. concrete 3pm is definetly turned to house music. 3pm is the time when smiles are on every face, when the same vibe, the same energy, is going through every stomach in the room, and the crowd becomes one same entity. concrete music 4am aims for the more techno and black side of the music we love. at 4am, fists are pumping the air, or heads are down and eyes closed. it s not about how hard or fast the kickdrum beats, but how thick the atmosphere is.
