odd004 is the first various artists release from odd socks, and marks the beginning of a series titled trips & trinkets. returning to the label a year since he kicked things off for us, josh t teams up with bristols arkist for their track fleabag – with chunky slomo grooves and funk sensibilities dripping all over an infectious beat.ad bourke joins the ranks with his sunday afternoon stroller, water sign. warm bassline grooves and fluttering flute samples sandwich delicate, wavering rhodes. on the flip, leeds-based tms’s debut release individualism is a dreamy little number that twinkles and plods around live hi-hats and a full-bodied bassline. saine rounds things off with his dramatic, heartstring-pulling should-be-a-movie-score epic, ratio.

next up on local talk we got a raw peak hour jam from liverpool producer dale howard (lost my dog, large, morris/audio, off rec). there is nothing light or fluffy about these tracks, its just dirty straight up house music with a dark 90s basement feel. for the main track we actually chose the dub version of throwback over of the original mix. we just thought this version was soooo freakin raw even though its more stripped than the original version. you’ll see what we mean when you drop it in the club! the second track in out goes along the same house theories as throwback with jackin beats and deep chords that will do wonders in any authentic house basement. all in all, a might fine release of classic local talk house music. enjoy!

the second track, >i feel good now<, mirrors the trees lush foliage. somewhat lighter around the treetop, there is nonetheless a solid body below, which can be played into wide space. >i feel good now< gives us the lightness to leap from branch to branch and up into the crown that protrudes into a dark night time sky.

edux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. machete savane is their latest signing, aka studio supremo saul richards & andy bainbridge, an integral part on well respected and notoriously raucous party people bad passion andy has perfectly distilled what drives the bad passion dancefloor in the excellent >elysian fields<, and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest felix dickinson. he takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more acid house territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore. finally mid op amps up the drum machinery, and lays out another corking balearic with balls workout. quality stuff as always.

following a sequence of brand new joiners to the label in 2012, boe presents one of the uks rising stars on the underground house music scene in meschi. having had previous successes on great labels such as lunar disko and the ever impressive swiss imprint, meschi is also famed for his live analogue jam sets full of action and improvisation...

on >dream on< ital takes his experimentation with house and techno forms even further, creating impressionistic deconstructions from the tropes of early house and techno. sunny chords, laid back drum shuffle and rhythmic vocal loops are picked apart and threaded with a rich psychodrama of delirious textures, tidal chords and uneasy roughness and dissonance.

for the first solo ep on horror boogie, fedka the irritant steps up, after his outstanding track on horror boogie 01. fedka the irritant is probably best known as the trombonist in the excellent band pest (ninja tune), alongside ben pest (panic bridge, victim, bonus round). he is also a seriously original and versatile producer in his own right. he has released on panic bridge, alongside the other pest members and his trombone techno live sets are something to behold. here, he drops four varied tracks, starting with the behemoth >words for friends<. a heavy slice of wonky techno, with a big kick and rasping synth. next up is one uncertain eyebrow. a building, funky, fuzzy acid-laced track that drops harder and harder as it goes on. on side b, calypso-flavoured, jazzed up >stick it< progresses on to a become a warbling bass effort with a smooth hip-hop vocal. last but not least, is >you only die once<, another funk-laden monster, with a killer slap bass line.
