a miramar is a place from which you can see the ocean. the bolero group, miramar, chose this word as their name to evoke a place of peace, reflection and solace for a broken heart. even the bolero, a romantic music born in cuba in the 1800s, might have been conceived by the seaside. in the 50s and 60s it became the quintessential musical expression of romance in latin america. it is this era of the music from which miramar draws their inspiration. urgencia (or urgency), tells of the desperation a heart feels when it is swept away by romance, but risks all for fear of not having another chance at love. the flip, salida means a way out. it is a song about the surrender that comes after trying to break free from the darkest of places, of endless frustration and sadness. the lyrics allude, but never tell.

all praises due is a collaborative project from veteran mc torae and producer praise. the duo teamed up to create the seven song ep which highlights the best of their combined talents. true fans know this has been long in the works and was even teased on shoutro from torae’s 2016 album entitled. torae has been busy since 2016 filming six commercials, a movie and a television series with vh1. in that time he also joined diddy’s revolt television network and hosted the revamped freestyle friday with bet. all without missing a beat on his nationally syndicated radio show the tor guide six days a week. praise has also been grinding, racking up production credits with artists like pharoahe monch, bj the chicago kid, joyner lucas and more. you can even hear his hard hitting drums and infectious bass lines on recent ea sports – nba live video games.

in the late 80s i started listening to uk radio stations when i was a little kid and i instantly fell in love with the acid sound and rave movement that was portrayed on those uk dance shows. when i got old enough to attend clubs and warehouse raves, to experience the movement first hand, it was a nobrainer for me that the music and the lifestyle was my call. lately…. in my dj sets and when producing music… i have been time travelling back to those days. back to how i remember the music i fell so deeply in love with and that is exactly what you hear on this “done/undone” release. for the “done” track i teamed up with cari golden to have a female spoken word and a great message to build the music around. i always prefer to do original vocal recordings rather than using samples. cari understood 100% what i was after and i love the lyrics and execution by her. the spoken word is centered, very clear and deep to contrast the constantly building intensity of the acid patterns and thumping beats. “undone” is instrumental and has a more straight forward flow to it. it’s quite simple although the shifting groove patterns might surprise some. i was torn between two different acid patterns and decided to drop one of them as a surprise change. playing the track in clubs i quickly learned that the change of dynamics had a great effect. both tracks have been wrapped in dark-themed chords and atmosphere. both tracks have my take on the sound i fell in love with years ago and obviously still love today. i hope you like what you hear.

currently fizzing up summer crowds on his european tour, the argentinian renaissance man is testing his wares, as he prepares to unveil his third artist album at the turn of 2019. set for release on the martinez brothers perennial cuttin headz imprint, it will herald a fresh jacking chapter for the artist who famously refuses to sit still. an instant statement of intent, ‘so dope’, the first taster from the forthcoming long-player, lives up to its name with a thumping nyc swing, loose twanging slap-bass pops, trippy vox overlays, springy rhythmic elements and all essential conga rolls. with its concrete-thick groove, ‘so dope’ commands an equally robust remixer rollcall. which is exactly what the martinez brothers have recruited... the bossmen themselves get elbow deep with a warped and twisted bassline that snakes around the stately jacking beat, gradually becoming more warped and wonderful as the track progresses. djebali follows with a precision contrast as the vocal shots wrap themselves tightly around a timeless 909 beat and subtle tracks of venomous acid while heartthrob flips it into an all-out rolling techno experience. dope ain’t the word.

marc & oveous bring the classic bruk flavours to atjazz’s label with their new e.p. ‘on again’. the original harks back to the old co-op nights with a tough bass synth and oveous’ soul laden vocals, tied together behind a punchy, syncopated broken beat rhythm. dress to sweat, this one will make the bodies move. first up on the flip side the ‘4x4 dub’ switches the rhythm to a straight up 4x4 house beat, but that subby synth carries through the broken beat touch. the original mixes’ vocals are dropped in favour of one of oveous’ short spoken word monologues before he steps back to let the music do the magic. the ‘dubstramental’ gives you one final interpretation utilising the same dubbed out template as the b1, but reverting back to the original broken beat pattern to give you three different flavours to throw down with.

desperate music for desperate times, collin strange returns to the label with a hard hitting ep of 90s style warehouse acid. this is remorseless, zero compromise, full fledged acid mayhem start to finish in the truest sense of the word, coming direct from the source. strange does what he does best pushing his 303, 101 and 909 to their limits with extreme intensity and abandon. if siege made electronic music this is what it would sound like. punk electronics for those who thrive on everyday chaos of the new world disorder. no trance to be found here.

rekids regular markus suckut drops his third album entitled heaven is a state of mind this september. when not helming his own imprints, sckt and pattern research, the dusseldorf artist has been releasing on rekids since 2015 and is now a core member of the labels family. earlier this year saw the arrival of new life ep, a mesmerising release exemplary of the producer’s knack for making imaginative house and techno complete with a compelling groove. no stranger to the long player format having released two albums previously, markus suckut returns to radio slaves label with a quality nine-track album. from the word go suckuts album demonstrates his versatility as a musician, initiating with a beatless intro named escape, before breeze comes into play with its skipping percussion and loopy atmospherics. crunchy snares and crystalline synths make up suns out whilst future is not always bright drives forward with its sultry low-end, ethereal pads and sci-fi bleeps, leading into take a break and its medley of elaborate drums, living up to its name. above the clouds is comprised of intricate notes and soothing chords whilst the machinelike orchid features electro inspired melodies, contrasting to the albums title track, heaven is a state of mind, with its bumpy bass and warping textures. wonderland (version) is a ghostly acid cut which suitably closes the album

the northern soul’s classiest rarities series has showcased high quality soul dance records from the 60s to the early 70s, beloved of collectors and dancers who have had their fill of the “top 500”.

the first in a smash bomb trilogy of 12” monster dance floor madness. s.a.m. goes deep and groovy with the a-side track philokalia. it s a lush but powerful 909 driven journey with a power climax with stabby melodic synth strings reminiscent of underground resistance. the b-side features a unique exploration into the use of ravy armand van helden-esque sounds mixed with a powerful simple beat and melodic synths and a whispering voice. two tracks that has already seen support from raresh, mandar, matthew dekay and more this summer.

deli daydreams is a conceptual lp based around a week in the life of a deli worker. varying styles from the spoken word tour de force introduction of white noise to the melancholic vibes of eviction notice

hailing out of montreal, 00:am follow up their killer first release with a four track va e.p. setting their stall out as a label to watch in 2018. the hutchin crew open up proceedings with an ethereal and hypnotic cut, coupling sweeping pads with dreamy keys. next up, dj ok takes things darker layering thudding toms and atmospheric strings with a sci-fi sampled spoken word. on the b side, cromie & iron curtis let the pounding bass sit centre stage interspersed with otherwordly synthwork and that high hat fizz. finally, science fiction steers things on a new wave tip offering up a down-tempo french vocal tinged closer to round off this stellar e.p.

the ron trent label electric blue is back with his rt factor alias with 2 timeless releases. blue twilight on the a-side is a deeper than deep house track with call & response between the chords & bassline. electric ride is an acid tinged spoken word journey.

more disco reggae verions of classic hits!

vast, expansive and introspective works utilising place-specific found sound on this second cremation lily lp for alter. contemplating mortality, illness and the perennial bleakness of british winter in a seaside town we find zen zsigo experimenting with piano, violin, synthesiser and walkman tape players. layering field recordings of the hastings shoreline atop druggy, stretched out 303 basslines and snippets of spoken word there seems to be an overarching thematic of memory and reflection at play. from vignettes of crumbling glass and bittersweet drones through to sprawling, semi-rhythmical pieces (‘as a sea creature...’) it seems as if zsigo is trawling the coast for fragments of its former glory. the end result of his study manages to echo the work of yoran, leyland kirby and even jacob kirkegaard yet the rare moments where he lays bare his own vocal narrative seemingly transforms in england now, underwater into sonic diary territory. mixing salt-water soaked cassette loops with haunting, minimalist piano motifs and warped recordings of crashing waves and bird noise an intense atmosphere of ballards drowned world is evoked through sound.

love drop drops (!) his first release on gamm and goes all in for a jazz-disco-boogie affair that will be hard to resist. | lesette willson s jazzy boogie classic gets a proper rework with some female spiritual spoken word vocals on top. jupiter beyonds jazz-disco monster gets a heavy club edit and last but not least one of the best jazz-funk tracks of all time by johnny hammond smith gets a vocal treatment that just...works!

topia records uncovers the work of alex kassian the kyoto born berlin based producer and dj whose work as opal sunn and al kassian has been turning heads and shifting feet in recent times. over the last decade kassian hosted word of mouth dances in london and berlin where he gained a reputation as one of europe s most promising artists. kassian s recent output has been primarily composing scores for contemporary dance and theatre in berlin, an approach he brings here to this 6 track ep hidden tropics . kassian inspired by other utopia records artists such as lars bartkuhn and vangelis katsoulis delves deeper into his compositional scope for a sound that joins the dots between ambient, world music to spiritual house in parts inspired by his homeland of japan as heard on bells of ukyo and the 80 s sakamoto-esque olson waters . the title track is a breakthrough in contemporary house music, sure to be picked up on by the tastemakers from new york to johannesburg to berlin to amsterdam to tokyo and beyond. cover image of tsuwaono sagimai by makoto furukawa, shimane, japan.

for our 8th release in the series, we ve invited another crazy motherfunker from the other side of the ocean. dj gene aka gene g-spot siewing besides being a crazy scratcher on the 1 s & 2 s and a brilliant radio show host for the liquid love show on cashmere radio, he s also a lifelong friend of our very own delfonic and oye records. gene presents a batch of classic disco re-edits, plus a lovely spoken-word introduction by the man himself. feeeeeeeeeeel his pleasure and never forget: if we can dance together, we can live together. and don t let nobody tell you different.

echocord’s echo echo sub-label continues with its third releases this august, courtesy of german producer and credo founder alex bau with his ‘zenstory’ ep. germany’s alex bau has been a prominent name on the underground dj circuit on his home turf, and further afield, for three decaces as well as racking up an impressive back catalogue as a recording artists for labels like cocoon, clr, sleaze and of course his very own credo label which has been a platform predominantly for his own material whilst welcoming the likes of kyle geiger, takkyu ishino and electric rescue onto the imprint also. here though we see bau joining the roster of echocord’s fledgling sub-label echo echo with a new four-track ep and taking the lead on the package is ‘clouds’ with pulsating low-end tones, hissing analogue noise and dusty drums samples all flowing in unison with ethereal chords and sweeping pads. ‘contour’ follows, tipping the focus over to bubbling delayed stab hits, fluttering sub bass and evolving white noise bursts throughout. the ‘prelude’ of ‘zenstory’ opens the flip side and as the name would suggest it’s a cinematic build up to the title-track featuring tension-building, expansive atmospherics ahead of the original mix which features a thumping muted kick, stuttering atmospheric echoes and spoken word vocal tucked into the depths of the record.

this is the debut release on noir music from brazilian k.a.l.i.l. we have been working quite some time to perfect this first release from him on the label and give it the edge needed to stand out. after tons of road-testing and going back and forth with production ideas i am now happy to have 2 perfect tracks ready from k.a.l.i.l. that really showcase his super solid techno sound and production flair. “involved” (co-produced with any mello) is a quite simple trip with any’s spoken word in center of industrial elements wobling it and out. this track works really well in the clubs because of its on point minimalism, the high intensity stacatto synths and the catchy vocal line from any. it’s not easy to do big tracks without big basslines – but that’s what k.a.l.i.l. and any mello truely achieved with this one. “revolved” is a track i signed already last year and since then k.a.l.i.l. has been perfecting everything about the track from small details to bigger arrangement improvements. this track has that big bassline that sits right in your face. it also has the right build for those peaktime moments in the clubs. i have been playing “revolved” a lot over the past months and people go crazy for those big bass drops. we are honored to have another great producer join the noir music family and proud to have another belter of a release ready for you.

dan stielow mortazavi has an outer edged family background and a long testament in music starting in his teens with his first recorded project the product that was self released to cassette back in 1983. three decades later it saw a vinyl release on the dark entries label. the debut spite cathedral lp is made with his long-time musical partner karsten svendsen (to feed on others, hinsidan, ate23) and is released with a free bonus 7” on bodies on july 2nd. ultra minimalism streaming from the darkest of places still with a presence of a cold, cold love. with sparse elements they create dramatic scenery. industrial beats backed with something that sounds like hostage jazz and rock drummers fused with the loneliest of themes, epic at times and oh so broken at others. touching topics of man’s inhumanity, paranoid misinterpretations, the fragility of the mind, sex and broken homes without mouthing a single word.

wdsb06 kicks off with a classic in every sense of the word, the legendary producer, doc l. junior of tromso reworks a disco classic in a 909 style, followed by g.o.d. (grumpy old djs) from colombia reworking a latin 80s jam, then newcomer just baker bringing the disco house heat for a full slab of the b side.

coming out in late july from the man who brought you e ruscha v s -who are you- to great acclaim earlier this year is secret circuit s 2nd ep for invisible inc, the cryptically titled -out of body interiors-. featuring four exclusive new tracks of the acid drenched, dubbed out, tropical disco variety mr ruscha, as always, delivers a sonic palette you won t find on many other imprints: from the turbo-charged homage to early 90s bleep meets indie rave euphoria of stomping ground, through the chugging, motorik groove of crazy ways which sounds like it s blasting out full volume from a smoke-filled space patrol hovercar gone rogue then flipping over to side b and waking up in mali, andromeda in a haze of syncopated percussion, other-worldly guitar licks and a billion new synthetically generated sounds that you may strongly suspect you just imagined.....to finally the feather drop which brings entirely new meaning to the word deep and which fires technicolour sounds of profoundly immense variety at the synapses at a rate of knots not many other producers can keep up with as all the while the bass holds court and keeps things deep rooted and dub heavy. secret circuit (aka eddie ruscha v) has had a plethora of releases on an equally expansive plethora of labels under such names as the parels (lal lal lal), blasé (esp institute), food of the gods/laughing light of plenty (whatever we want), odd numbers ( no label), shadow kids (el diablo s social club) and of course as secret circuit (beats in space, emotional response and invisible, inc.)

following on from angophora s beautiful long player, ken oath is back with another full length lp from low flung. friends of the label will note that this is his third release for ken oath, and it s a fittingly mature and expansive statement for a debut lp. perhaps mature is the wrong word here, as all his brilliant ideas are backed up by a sense of whimsy that betrays his playful side. the music strikes a balance between styles and spaces that could perfectly soundtrack moments at home, in the club, and in the liminal spaces between. danny s efforts at writing dance music still contain the idiosyncratic approaches of his ambient works: the deadly deep subs and endless echo spirals on -rising damp- sounds like someone trying to piece together a drum & bass track after an off-hand conversation about the genre. he s transmuted the propulsive energy of jungle into something no less dynamic, full of stops and starts and sonic pressure but flush with space. -tarp climber- is at heart a rollicking digi-dub. the more ambient moments of the lp are equally captivating - the glassy tones of -frozen coat- sound like a space-age ensemble soundtracking a floating lounge on a suite of glass instruments, while -ocean grove- blends field recordings and dreamy synthesizer melodies to create an uncanny sense of place that unroots you from wherever you re listening. there s a heavy emphasis on danny s collaborators as well - the cold emotion duo is reprised on the spacey ‘hills hoist’. closer -bacchus marsh- is a collaboration with prophets, a cross-state ensemble that defy any easy categorisation. the music here flirts with jazz and minimalism but with a dubwise production aesthetic to produce something that recalls khan jamal s visionary -drum dance to the motherland- in spirit and practice, but this whole album sounds as otherworldly and one-of-a-kind as the aforementioned lp.

its a captivating encounter when a producer of relative anonymity bursts onto the scene with an exciting and engaging release, that you re drawn back to again and again, wondering how you ve never heard of them before. porto producer pedro, & washington dc vocalist jenna camille have achieved exactly that with this first release on the mighty wolf music recordings. the influences from jazz though to soul, rnb & broken beat are weaved deep within this record. you re drawn in from the off with an intro of stripped back pianos behind an emotional spoken word monologue from jenna, before it opens up into a beatsy, rnb infused groove. having pulled you in float hits you with a richness of synth textures, layers of broken beats and dreamy chords alongside jennas float mantra hypnotising you deeper and deeper. reaching the last section of the track though you re woken from that hypnotic groove with a switch to a raw and energetic breakbeat sure to get any crowd moving. keep it h 2000 , the final track on the a side, has a real flavour of fatima to it emanating from jenna s blissful vocals - laid over the top of sustained rhodes, weighty synth lines and dynamic drums. flip it over and there s a tougher intensity to future dance (it ll be ok) , coupling rhythmic stabs with jazzy chord progressions, laced behind a groove that wouldn t be out of place lighting up the floor at a co-op night. to close out the e.p. you re given a sensory overload through jenna s staggered, overlaid vocals panned to come at you from every angle its the perfect outro to both stun you and leave you wanting more. and if this extremely well-polished, first key release is a sign of things to come, pedros name will be becoming a lot more familiar in years to come. support from afronaught (bugz in the attic), bradley zero, henry wu, lefto, atjazz & osunlade

infusing tropical vibes and electronic grooves to reflect the vivid ever evolving latin american soundscape is the fresh musical excursion “electropical” as synthesised by london based producers, juan laya and jorge montiel. “electropical” - one word, one sound that distils a melting pot of authentic latin anthems, jazzy grooves, disco infused songs and balearic sounds all processed in hd for an immersive experience which explores the colourful influences of the caribbean, vast amazonian dimensions and beyond. its heart-warming journey is a highly seductive experience that further enhances the mood with repeated play.

for our next excursion, we’re off to the library. in search of library records that is - you know the type, the crazy rare records used for soundtracks and such and such. we have a sick selection of synthed-up beats and pieces chopped together by one earl jeffers, making the most out of his international library digging card* (*not a real thing).
for those that don’t know, cardiff’s earl jeffers is one half of darkhouse family, regular family at our sister label, first word, on which they released their debut album “the offering” late last year. earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases chesus and metabeats on labels like mcde, fat city and local talk, collaborating with artists like byron the aquarius, action bronson and kamaal williams / henry wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. all this in addition to running his own label, mélange records.
a dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. in earl’s words: “this record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond….”

echocord sub-label echo echo continues this july with orbite’s ‘interstellar’ ep, a threetracker from the berlin- based producer. orbite is a brand new project founded in berlin, germany with a nod towards the raw, dubby sounds often heard across the clubs in the city, and where better to inaugurate things than the recently launched sub-label of copenhagen’s echocord, one of the leading imprints in the realms of dub techno, home to pioneering acts like rod modell/deepchord, pole and fluxion who have paved the way for orbite’s own twist on the genre. the ethereal pad textures of ‘skylar’ lead on the package, deftly evolving alongside bubbling synth tones, swelling chords and shuffled percussion to create a create dynamically unfolding six and a half minute cut. ‘moment’ follows, edging things further into dubbed-out territories with heavily delayed dub echoes and mesmeric spoken word poetry intertwining to create a, hypnotic beatless soundscape. ‘organi’ closes the record with emotive, billowing pads, warm bell like tones and vocal murmurs running alongside swinging shakers and stripped-back micro-house percussion.

after a wildly successful collaboration on thatmanmonkzs turn it out from the lp, columbus-ing, dave aju suggested they should continue their production streak for a new percussive tracks project. at the same time, aju had finally kept his word to legendary bay area club/underground mc and personality, foxxee aka foxxee brown aka lawrence petty, to work on a track together as well. petty being a core part of the infamous ya mamas house radio show on 106 kmel alongside pete avila and david harness that introduced legions of young bay area djs to real house music, includ-ing aju, in the early 90s.

ikue asazaki is a veteran japanese traditional music singer and yoisura bushi is a traditional music in amami oshima(small southern island). i think yoisura bushi is most emotional music which i have listened in my life. there are not the word to describe how beautiful…. kuniyuki remix is simply amazing,i think it’s his best work.
