housemeister joins herbert’s ever burgeoning accidental jnr roster with an ep of definitive leftfield techno clout. lead track late at night pulsates with a piercing vocal hook whilst a remix of the track from matthew herbert offers a funkier and altogether darker edge. other offerings on the release are the acid inflected der kleine könig dezember and closing the show is the simple but affecting funk that which really speaks for itself. housemeister has never looked to conform to the genre rule book and this latest release is no different with serious execution and cheeky playfulness in equal measure.

before there was a man in black, there were the sun records years, when cash began defining his peculiar and witty version of country music. born in arkansas in 1932, cash began recording as a top artist for sun records, for which he released his first full-length lp. this double lp set documents all the hits from 1955 to 1958, before cash signed to columbia records. these 35 “first steps” helped build the legend and are considered the milestones of an incredible career that ended with those passionate and soulful albums on the “american recordings” series released between 1994 and 2003, the year jr cash died on sept 12.

bologna s frank agrario decided to take destiny into his own hands earlier this year, founding micronation records as an outlet for his music. the ladonia ep - named after a disputed micro-nation in southern sweden - is agrario s second missive for the imprint, and features a particularly luscious, amospheric dancefloor roller named after the state s most famous landmark, a sculpture called -nimis-. arguably even better is -i played that track already , a dusty, detroit style deep house cut blessed with a bold cowbell line, sustained chords, and a nagging vocal hook. rick wade provides a deliciously deep and soulful interpretation of that track, while the softly jazzy, broken-house track -lesboa- is also worth a listen.

“the iceberg/freedom of speech... just watch what you say!” is the third studio album by infamous rapper ice-t, released in 1989. the album has an uncharacteristically gritty sound, featuring some of the darkest musical tracks that ice-t ever released. pressing on audiophile 180 gram vinyl.

ext returns with his follow up to the third installment of house shoes reputable “the gift” series with “arts & craft”. ext cleared off his desktop about a year ago and sent me everything he had been working on. all of the tracks were in various stages of development. some loops, some fully fleshed out, some sounded like sketches. it drew my attention because of the resounding innocence of the collection, an innocence that is more or less gone from the industry in 2015. listen and learn what it sounds like to just have the intention to create, not muddled with the star aspirations or big money dreams. just to create.

this is a piece of estonian underground musics history. more than 20 years ago, in estonia, hypnosaurus were pioneers of deep house and techno, the first ones to have gone with this new strange rhythmic music into the studio and into the dark basements of tallinn.the remix is by the strange and wonderful chicago producer hieroglyphic being. this is soul music of rusty funk-robots. for this remix he is said to have tried out new methods of dealing with sounds, switching them on and off.
