one of our humble imprint s closest allies and a longstanding pillar of philadelphia s electronic music community, billy werner has been a constant presence in the booth at parties throughout the northeast corridor since 1998. we debuted his m//r alias in 2014 with the gathering response data 12- . since he s been busy bringing the grit to points beyond the city of brotherly love, putting in work for the likes of detailssound, l.i.e.s. and jackdept. most recently, he turned out a remix of karen gwyer s -why does your father look so nervous- for the rembo remixes on don t be afraid, as well as another for chaperone s -grit neglect- on the aforementioned snapbackbalaclava ep. written, recorded, and mixed over a period of 15 months, among the methods is in no small part a reflection of the affinities and sensibilities billy holds as both selector and producer. referencing a variety of influences from jazz to dub to electro, the album s allure stems from his deft ability to recontextualize those genres disparate aspects into a familiar–yet fiercely idiosyncratic–musical context. the end result is at once wildly fractured and precision-focused as among the methods finds its own seductive rhythm within a matrix of dub echoes and modulated low-end. it s heady ground,to be sure,as well as the most declarative aesthetic statement fromm//r to date. presented without further comment. the music is the message

smashed atoms make a return after launching the magic circles label earlier in the year, bringing more of that sassy disco flavoured house music with a fondness for the good old way of doing things. the nods to rapture are hard to ignore on cut this way even if the ingredients are fresh, and there s no denying its the perfect formula for an addictive dancefloor cut with an old-skool hip hop monologue over the top. lost someone is a more sprightly affair that plays off bouncy synth lines and another discoid drum groove to create its infectious good time message.

2017 repress - timmon records in helsinki, finland - the home of myron & es band & collaborators the soul investigators - have released their own custom versions of the myron & e recordings, cut right at home in the timmion cutting laboratory. the two lps - cold game and going in circles - are strictly limited edition vinyl releases, packaged with old school thick cardboard sleeve and tip-on cover. going in circles lp contains the full, original versions three tracks from myron & es broadway (the u.s. release on stones throw) and four others which arent on the u.s. release.

joey negro presents remixed with love, exclusive unreleased versions. the soul weekender anthem circles gets a joey negro make over in remixed with love style, making the most of the rich orchestration from the multi track tape and complete with beefy live drums. on the flip the disco classic everybody dance is reborn as a mainly instrumental groove with some additional roy ayers style vibes to give it a new jazzy flavour.

four months after his release on dvs1 s mistress recordings, look like strikes back with a new release on akoya circles. delta is a four track journey with a nice blend of early detroit & chicago sounds. bits of acidic basslines and playful drum programming. from djs to b-boys, everyone should find his gem.

outboxx return to brstl two years on from their first release on the label, tougher and more dance floor focused. although primarily known for deeper house sounds for labels such as futureboogie, they have never been afraid to experiment as exemplified on their debut lp for idle hands. here they turn their attention to deep techno, with two stripped back cuts that retain the warmth of their other productions. sequential circles drills down on a singular, angular riff whilst neatly deployed percusiion hits at just the right moments. moon loop whirls round on a deep spacey groove in keeping with its title. another strong release from the bristol focused brstl label.

dan trevitt, long-tenured philly techno dj of the highest caliber and stalwart member of the inciting / great circles crew steps up with the missing, his first 12 inch for the label. trevitt spent most of the past year holed up with a rotating arsenal of hardware in the vacuum, a warehouse that not so long ago played host to a number of memorable parties. machine ghosts fight for freedom, trapped in the dark of smoke, spray paint, solder and ash. but no one s going home just yet.

mos ferry release #57 is a vinyl re-release of two true classics from the label catalogue. dapayk & padbergs >island< is a special result of a collaboration with the american singer and producer caro. the original track came out in 2007 on their second album >black beauty<. but the choice for this record is the >swimming circles remix< by the parisian dj and producer duo noze (of circus company and get physical fame). originally released on the b side of >black beauty rmxs pt.2< the remix developed into a prominent long runner for the artists and the label. in 2005 >emergency< by dapayk & midnight marked the birth of mos ferrys first sublabel fenou. the 10inch record was released as a limited edition of 1.000 copies, each stamped by hand with a consecutive number. this first and only edition is out of stock for years now and if you are lucky you can buy a rare copy on discogs. reason enough to bring this track on a new mos ferry vinyl release.
