the next yoshitoshi classic is here and it s a heavy one - dino lenny s -i feel stereo.- anyone on the scene in 2001, when this monster tune was originally released, remembers its pulsing rhythms and ear-catching vocal hook. seventeen years later, -i feel stereo- is back with three remixes from some of the finest artists around. steve lawler (working here as lawler) has crafted a badass, bassline-driven house track that pummels with all the energy of the original. steve continues his reign as as key innovator in dance music, modernizing this classic with unquestionable finesse. the red axes boys deliver their silky smooth brand of minimal house with a variety of distorted arpeggio riffs, futuristic chimes, and other left-field sounds that make their remix truly unique. it s another ace production from the israeli duo. last but certainly not least, up-and-comer frankyeffe, who delivered the goods on his collaborative splitting minds ep with loco & jam last fall, serves up some impeccably produced techno for big, loud rooms. the italian phenom s mix is absolute savagery. of course, it wouldn t be a yoshi classic pack without a remastered original mix.

tevatron is back on its metrohm label with its -my origins- concept. inspired by the fathers of techno he synthesizes his influences and his project is quickly acclaimed by one of the masters of the genre like derrick may in others. -my origins part 2- is an invitation to discover the roots of techno, with this new version, tevatron returns to the sources by offering us two beautiful timeless tracks powered by bass lines based on arpeggio, powerful beats with a groove supported, striking agreements with a backbone very representative of the techno of the mid-90s. laurent garnier considers this ep as a new classic of its kind.

slow glass is not only the debut release by le frère it is also a very personal diary of the last two years of his life. all four tracks are based on recordings, samples and ideas he collected while travelling the world. with the concept of slow glass in mind le frere tried to catch moments of his life without stripping them of their dynamic and evanescence. the ep starts with lots of positive energy and light but already reveals glimpses of the shadows that slowly emerge throughout the following tracks. nice is a lightly humming version of an (almost) innocent summer morning. it s a collage of field-recordings, synth-pads and manipulated guitar sounds. candid is a light and open dialog between a simple guitar theme and a playful synth-arpeggio. v1b1n creates the dense atmosphere of a rainy caribbean afternoon dominated by field recordings and everyday noises. nttt8-sets a counter point to the previous three tracks as the energy of le frere s travels cumulates in nttt8, making it a more dance-floor oriented piece carried by a dark and heavy bass-line and almost rave-sirens.

tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide, who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide is a co-founder of n.o.i.a, one of italy s first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978. he was also behind seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o and proto house hit dirty talk. since then they have released under an array of aliases, have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them back to their electronic roots, with influences like sci-fi movies and old school electro and italo looming large. -devious- is a very breezy and energetic track with a rolling arpeggio and rich keyboards section over a simply but groovy tr-808 pattern. classical italo space disco sound updated to nowadays. -translucent- sounds like a dreamy electro-ballad heavily influenced by kraftwerk. -pop song- keeps the same 80 s electro vibes with simple, wistful melodies and a great funk bass line. -disco dub- is a pretty damn cool early eighties electronica, with a great pumping -robo-funk- linndrum!

four tracks of ny-flavoured boogie and house goodness - quality is the key word from copenhagen based music for dreams and here is another home run. willie graff splits his year between dj residencies in new york and ibiza. in this new outing with studio partner darren eboli, the influence is, as the title suggests, clearly ny-based. over only four tracks, the pair manage to craft a stunningly comprehensive exploration of the essential elements of dance music. opening track -love flight- staggers into a lush string-driven groove that recalls the glory of metro area meets wally badarou vibes. minimal yet playful, it lounges somewhere in the depths of the house tradition, calling on familiar sounds while throwing in odd details along the way (harmonicas?). it takes both skill, devotion and a sense of humor to pull this track off, making for a strong opening. -moon tan- lingers on a metallic hook that drags you into a plethora of percussion followed by a rubbery soft baseline. dubby key work would suggest this was a new wave band jamming at compass point, while the icy chill of the xylophone transports you into 80s italo territory. -second sun- pulls out the bag of boogie tricks, relying on a firm but humble baseline and smattering drum machine claps. nile rodgers-style guitar licks guide us onwards into a well-orchestrated jam that builds up and breaks down with perfect timing while dreamy chords reach for the sky. -first light- keeps the groove tight while dipping over towards more balearic temperatures. steeped in a watery atmosphere and gentle organic percussion, it focuses in on a trance-inducing arpeggio that lulls you in to the swaying badarou-style synth swirls that intercept it.

eagles & butterflies readies the third instalment in his art imitating life label series. boldly detuned and expertly defined, the last dance showcases trademark e&b chords and arpeggio sequences, backed with elegant vintage pads, tumbling, drum machines and percussion. the flip sees two reinterpretations of the title track, where a nineties broken-beat is accompanied by a beatless, synthapella edit.

new to the naar stable, in:state & giuli make their debut in stunning style.visitoz is a straight forward techno affair, as bumping as it is surprising. using a deceptively simple gated arp and horn to dazzlingly complex effect. the track is potentially the most peak time naar has gone yet, and it s an incredibly welcome addition to their canon. on remix duty lauer takes a hold of the main arpeggio and turns it monstrous in the style of liasions dangeruese, yet balances this with his trademark lightness of touch and his ear for a heart wrenching synth line, creating an instant classic that feels like it was beamed straight in from 1986. -plus 1- has been sent from a parallel dimension where the evolution of music took a turn so different that proto garage stands where proto house should be. the track has the step and swagger of the most compelling end of the 2 step movement, but balances that with the surprising naivete and earnestness found in italo, ebm and early forays from chicago. finishing things off, lizards return to the label for a welcome encore following last years success with their 1st release,tanni.

unsurprisingly, richard galling, does indeed hail from milwaukee, having released disco inspired jams since about 2012. with his stuff getting plays on the likes of beats in space, he got his name out early. his latest offering is this single that features two original tracks and some remixes too. 303? features the eponymous bass machine all over this deep, arpeggio-heavy tech-disco jam, organ swaps the 303 for a classic robin s-style house organ, and prophet adds some big room bass. also included is a prophet version of clear water, a real late 80s, shep pettibone-style, latin house joint. luke solomons body edit, is absolut dancefloor heat !!

the 3 musketeers are back, pouring new life into two more obscure, italian techno tracks from early 90s. roby j s track -charming the cobra,- also from the -where am i?- ep, originally released on interactive test records, in 1991. a real trip between psychic percussions and trancey synths. the flip hosts model citizen, aka gabry fasano, another legend from the 90s italian progressive and techno scene. -the right to dance and learn- is a perfect after-hour house track, with a trippy arpeggio and deep, somnolent chords. both tracks have been extended by lom, assuring maximum joy and mixing pleasure.

with lukas lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as this is why ep. the a-side kicks off with the discoish banger q&h and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by lorenz rhode not only famous for his releases on compost records or exploited but also for taking detroit-swindle-liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. the deeper side of lukas’ sound is represented on the b-side. starting with edgy piano chords, solid/fragile (coexistence) introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. with its distinctive strings, nothing but a heartache makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

outsider house misfits cowboy rhythmbox, return to phantasy with a tri-pronged blitzkrieg of wildly singular tracks. tanz exotique: a pan global orgy of recondite sound sources, perhaps one of the most extreme examples of cbrb s multifarious approach to date. superlative 25th century electronic exotica. cats invasion: a stark, glacial and sleazy lesson in poise, restraint and excess. lysergic synthesizer motifs, deep breathing, and serious sense of menace ride a pleasingly rawboned rhythm. music for darkrooms on interstellar pleasure cruisers. scream: a revved-up industrial beast of a track. primal, animalistic vocals conspire with dub percussion and a sinister acidic arpeggio. a symphony of gut-level grit and abrasive alchemy.

brazilian label gop tun hits its fourth release with the sublime tones of tyv, building on the adventurous twist on disco and house music that has typified the label to date. lead track -miau!- is a show stopper that rides on a sumptuous arpeggio and lashings of latin percussion, infected with a sunny disposition but also reaching into a more mysterious corner of the dancefloor. lauer steps up to remix the original into a more overtly cheery version loaded with his trademark warm basslines and pads, but then tyv takes control once more for simmering b-side jam -da terra-. pitched at a more reflective time in the party, this brooding jam celebrates brazilian music culture in a wonderfully modern context.

weiss blasts off via “brain fever”, where raw, mind-altering arpeggio bass, fuzzy drum machine hits, spacey chords and alien electronics thrust our hero skywards. think of it as techno for funk-fuelled, italo-disco loving astronauts whose journey to the end of the universe is only just underway. this intergalactic funk blueprint is explored further on the deeper and more melodious “you want a cigarette”, where weiss’s vocoder vocals wrap themselves around mutant tb-303 lines, rush-inducing chords and clattering machine percussion. on “space ghetto (booty)”, our hero celebrates the discovery of previously unknown worlds in the only way he knows how. with kaleidoscopic, full-throttle electronic motifs and funk-fuelled synth-bass to the fore, weiss offers his own unique take on electrofunk. pleasingly fuzzy and tightly wrapped in the syncopated drum machine handclaps of ghetto-house, it’s a typically far-sighted and attractive proposition.

ruff stuff returns to their own label and are proud to announce a new 4 track ep. untitled04 is the result of different experiments on the sound and introduces a novelty for the label: the first official remix by the lovely italian duo black loops. “never ending” opens the a side with its raw groove, a hypnotic pad warming everything up and a vocal that will drive the listeners to unexplored territories. “m.a.m.t.” showcases the most familiar sound of ruff stuff: warm techno stabs on a straight groove filled with a single vocal and a synthetic arpeggio in the second part. on the b side the sound changes its shape with “flying”: a mixture of rough grooves, disco samples, female vocals and a touch of acid. the remix by black loops brings the track back to very house territories chopping the original samples more and filling them with a solid beat and shining hats. just put the needle on, push play and dance! vinyl only, limited copies.

someone outside takes us on a journey into space with three pieces of shimmering and emotive techno. constellation opens the ep with a broken rhythm, sizzling hats and shimmering chord stabs. forbidden planet mixes driving percussion patterns with a deep pads. lost city resolves the ep with an energetic bassline and arpeggio hook.

fouk are finally back on heist after their great ‘kill frenzy’ ep in 2014 and have taken mount liberation unlimited along for a remix. we’ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature ‘fouk’ sound to the next level. fouk’s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label outplay and razor ‘n tape, as well as their respective solo projects. we’ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for heist showcases, with highlights in amsterdam’s “claire” and paris’ “concrete-. seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they’d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. anticipation ran high but boy, do fouk deliver. the excellent ‘with lasers’ ep still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they’ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener ‘f3000&#8242,,,,,, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. title track ‘with lasers’ is more of a classic fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with… erm… lasers. lots of them. the b side ‘see you on the other side’ sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. swedish synth nerds “mount liberation unlimited” ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -pepe bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.

during kris baha s migration north, an introduction with berlin cult figure dane//close has led to power station s latest offering and debut mini lp the miniature industrial complex. originally released on limited cassette via noisekolln tapes, the lp brilliantly displays the sameheads resident s appetite for all things wave, industrial and weird, with an eye firmly to the floor. opener rockbox plays like a forgotten b-side dub, 80s drums chug as brazen noises bounce off a delicately nostalgic lead. fourth voice slings low, incessant bass drones as sci-fi vox and metallic hits to the rhein. mercy mercy increases the tempo, an arpeggio leads the way as intensity rises, unnerving samples introduce a flurry of gunshot snares. flip over to ancient rome , a dancefloor musica lirica complete with a forward baseline, air raid sirens and raw drum workouts, the fall of the roman empire! not part of the original cassette release, beard maintains the energy, wild guitar shreds in a neurotic ritmo frenzy alan vega crossing into 2016 dance floors faintly comes to mind. and lastly rounding out with fine experimental ender thunder ...mayday

various is a good word to describe this escales vol.2 from croisière musique crew, the second various e.p. from the label, which seems so diverse that it almost could seem inconsistent to someone not familiar with the label. at the same time this e.p. summarizes perfectly a collection of different styles and aspects of croisière musique, from some heavy dancefloor-friendly house and techno to more abstract acid grooves, going through breaky minimalism. a1 – the e.p. starts with battle of wits from sebastian eduardo which is a direct uncompromising floor-oriented piece of house, setting a filtered atmosphere, bouncy bassline and a filtered synth which reminds us of a dubby atmosphere. a thick and compact atmospheric part progressively takes on the middle of the track and suddenly fades to let the main dancing pattern return. a2 – lowlifequalitys is a spatious acid piece which contains elements that are close to the aesthetic of video games. all synths coming together give a sense of confusion yet ordered by the repetitiveness of the loop. the sensation of something nerd and muddle rise from this experience, a expression of weirdness by the member of les points.b1 – programming behavior sets a step back in the ep, evolving around an hypnothic vocal piece which is extracted from an old interview of george clinton, heavily chopped and processed. on top of the simple breaky drum pattern which recenters the experience, gets added an arpeggio and a modular synth sounding sequence which progressively dramatizes the track. rx delivers here a mysterious piece of minimalism, bitter yet swingy. b2 – the e.p. ends with catan, the first appearance from françois, who co-founded croisière musique with rx. starting with an ambiant and breaky atmosphere, catan quickly evolves to a drivy four step techno piece. on top of the leading synth comes different glitchy elements, aerial pads and a disturbing shamanistic glitch in the middle of the track that announces a break which confuses the listener. the track follows-up on this contradiction between the hypnotic grooves and the solid drivy techno.

the two diggers project has been steadily increasing in productivity since first emerging in 2015, and now it makes the move to jack s house recordings with this no-nonsense three-tracker. -head trip- keeps things simple but utterly effective with a crisp beat, subby bassline and catchy lead arpeggio, while -down the street- takes a groovier, albeit equally stripped back, approach. -you are my groove- spreads itself across the b-side with a brighter disposition that lets warm and soulful samples slip in between the classic house rhythms. if you re looking for straight-up jams that will do the business on the floor, look no further.

paul woolford has been seriously spreading his wings of late, becoming omni-present by landing his tracks with ease on labels like xl recordings, running back, houndstooth, hotflush and aus music. not wanting to be shackled by genres, paul comfortably serves up a wide variety of curveballs, from the technoid charge of his 4/4 persuasions to the exhilarating warped hardcore & jungle breaks of his much loved special request project. and so it’s with welcome arms that edible usher him to our release schedule, give him the comfy sofa and let him rip it up with two havoc-inducing cuts that are already a staple in label boss eats everything’s dj sets. title track ‘chaos’ finds paul in a particularly warped mode, bleepy synth pulses oscillate wildly over a granite hard beat as a single sub-bass tone drives the brain-scrambling flurry of modular tones into overdrive. a hydrochloric synth riff settles the bed, but only until the next haul of chaotic blips come firing out of the speakers - highly effective, and possibly deranged warehouse tackle. a future classic. flip side, and woolford shows off some decidedly more soulful chops on ‘meditate . a vocal hook plays against a dubwise bass line and ascending 909 rides, as a seductive and transcendental string arpeggio creeps to the fore and demands a breakdown of its own, serving up a serious bucket load of emotion. not a dry eye in the house.

after more than 2 years of waiting berlin-based artist fabian dikof is back with a new release on best works records his ep the who his trade-mark sound remains: catchy arpeggio-sounds with tech-house synth usage. with these elements he creates a very mature tapestry that gives the tune great dynamic play in its rhythmic morphosis. the track camouflage features berlin-based vocalist ann weller from the band ann & bones. last but not least remixer dubspeeka reworks the original giving it a more minimal techno-flavour and with its tool-character it hits the dance-floor full on. the who ep is yet another great stepping stone for fabian dikof. there is more to come from this gifted producer.

vol. 4 with more fantastic cosmic / ambient-ish / experimental tunes

spencer parker returns on his own imprint this march with a four-track track release as part two of the three part different shapes and sizes series. following on from the raw and stripped back house jam aesthetic as seen in part one, parker kicks off this techno release with size information a track with driving kicks, subtle atmospherics, and infectious panning percussion. next up is shape deviation, which hones in on a twisted 303 arpeggio and is saturated in white noise and backed up with entrancing drums, before shape fascination goes into full drum machine workout mode with off kilter 808 claps fuelled by a hypnotic synth bass line. size devotion rounds off the release with its raw and distorted kicks and simplistic yet effective mesmeric male vocal samples.

if you’re setting out on an epic voyage to the electronic disco universe, it pays to recruit an experienced pilot. when it comes to intergalactic musical fusion, few are quite as experienced as cosmic disco pioneer and noted dancefloor explorer daniele baldelli. produced alongside friend and regular studio partner dario piana, zero gravity cannily updates baldelli’s early ‘80s cosmic disco blueprint for the 21st century. we think that the ep contains some of his strongest music to date, with each of the three cuts offering subtle nods to the italian maestro’s original cosmic club ethos. a-side “infinity machine” expertly combines many of baldelli’s greatest musical inspirations into one mind-bending late night workout. underpinned by a druggy, arpeggio style bassline, the track rises and falls through waves of funk-rock guitars, crunchy clavinet lines and intertwined synthesizer solos. throw in jammed-out electric pianos, and you have a near perfect fusion of cosmic disco and blazed funk-rock. the producer’s long-held love of african rhythms surfaces on “if you drive”, where bold acid bass, ricocheting percussion hits and weightless chords combine beautifully with starry melody lines and vintage analogue synthesizer motifs. it’s afro-cosmic for the nu-disco generation. a fine ep is completed by “air lock”, in which baldelli and piana pepper a rubbery, electrofunk-influenced groove with cascading synthesizer melodies, swirling pads and a swathe of fuzzy, eyes-closed guitar solos. it’s bold and assertive, but also as otherworldly and stratospheric as you’d expect from a pioneer at the peak of his powers.

power station continue to present their penchant for dark dance club sounds as the third edition of the kris baha-led imprint looks to another melbourne local by way of lochlan denholm aka disrute. after surfacing on the labels sampler debut just last year, reflexivity sees lochlan a chance to explore his style of twisted, pulsing homage to new wave and motorik throb. anvil landing wastes no time laying down intentions. sparse friendly drums are met with a modulating bass line and lazy arpeggio, an incessant sonar pulses and drum rolls intensify. snorkel continues the mid-tempo intensity, distressed kick counterpoint with aggressive stabs that rise and swirl before reaching a powerful climax, a track reminiscent of the 2000 s turbo-charged italo disco edits. on the flip we see japanese supergroup mascaras, made up of chida and 5ive (cos/mes) tackle unreleased kabutops. vocal fans of disrute s kabu track from the label sampler, here mascaras provide a fast paced acid-heavy reinterpretation, intense yet restrained with erratic drum trickery taking disrute to techno territory. finally, disrute reflects with title track reflexivity. digital arpeggios and a brooding one note bass work around curt cress style harmonic drums, a low slung piece for the early evening. hand drawn picture sleeve and label, a complete package that signals exciting times for power station ahead.

spain s javi bora has been steadily carving out a name for himself over the past few years holding up a residency at the infamous, now late space ibiza and its kehakuma parties, as well as racking up releases for elrow music, suara, robsoul, 2020 vision and moda black. here though we see him paired with fellow spaniard for a new ep set to be released via london s fledgling spilt milk recordings which has played host to material from the likes of italoboyz, alexi delano and of course its founders tred benedict and st. bernard. title-track bounze takes the lead on the record, laying the foundations with snaking synth sequences, voice atmospherics and robust rhythms before hector moralez and katal step in on the remix. the pair reshape bounze with their own stripped-back distinctive style, opting for floating pads, heavily swung percussion and snippets from the originals spoken parts. ritual rights follows and lays focus on arpeggio 303 tinged bass hits, crunchy drums and subtly unfolding synth leads that ebb and flow throughout the record. the 002 then rounds out the package with dubby stab sequences, soaring pad swells and gritty, energetic rhythms

lord of the isles, a.k.a. neil mcdonald, has spent the better part of a decade steadily producing and releasing beautiful music. the esp institute has always wholeheartedly believed in neil’s work ethic and his journey as an artist who constantly refines his vision, and when we inevitably approached in hopes of working together, we were enamoured by the sheer breadth and depth of work he had in progress’. there are two types of artists. one internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, in turn they produce immaculate yet very little art. the other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. the art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. lord of the isles seems to be both, always in an evolving state of process where the work is constantly shed to make way for the new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry picking when and with whom he releases his art into the world. neil is simply prolific. he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album “in waves”. the title speaks to neil’s process both intimately and from afar, it speaks to the emotional ebb and flow of the music itself, and ultimately it speaks to the listener. ahead of the album’s release, we are proud to share with you the single ‘weh-in’, a mesmerizing arpeggio melody that opens and closes, purrs and barks, and plays nicely with its percussive accompaniment over more than 10 minutes. this lengthy single version of the track is joined by a dark and stormy, exclusive non-album cut entitled ‘pik’, as well as a big room rave remix by esp institute resident ian blevins, which take us to a slightly more frantic place while retaining the euphoric essence of the original.

elocution, the third figure ep from portuguese producer lewis fautzi, again displays a high defree of versatility but still comes cleary cut for the club. employing a rich yet spacious sound design, fautzi creates cinematic scapes that are at once both brimming with the hums of colossal interstellar machinery yet at the same time leave enough room for a range of carefully sculpted elements to do their work. whether it be the twisted acid arpeggio on opener shizophrenia, the imposing drones underscoring the mighty mirror or the propulsive percussion of centerpiece 37b. testament to fautzis talent of engaging arrangement, never do the tracks here feel hurried nor do they become stagnant - but rather given just the right time to ripe into their full captivating potential. no matter if one is to approach this records as already an avid lover of lewis fautzis work or comes to it simply looking for fresh takes on the classic formula, this enthralling ep certainly will satisfy everyones needs.

after a quick 4 years hiatus, filled with releases on innervisions, maeve and a couple of remixes, aera is finally back on his own aleph music imprint with 3 unique tracks. a1. two planets is the most obvious track of the ep. an exercise in outsider trance, a pulsating, polyrhythmic synth propels the track forward, the intricate 707 pattern keeps a steady pace, while background strings provide all the drama. b1. stylistically reminiscent of aeras first releases on aleph music, black glitz is the deepest track of the bunch. floating on a cloud of dreamy pads and voices, that arpeggio makes you realise immediately who you are dealing with. b2. maskull is a rather ambiguous little tune. somewhat rough around the edges, sparkling in the darkness of late nights, dwelling in voices and fog, this is the one for the heads.

the martinez brothers cuttin headz returns with a new ep from the butcha, entitled 10001 and backed with two remixes from matrixxman. phil moffa aka the butcha is a new york city based musician, producer and engineer most notably known for his works alongside dj spider and anthony parasole for sublevel sounds / plan b recordings and alongside seth troxler for hypercolour. here we see him return to the fledgling cuttin headz imprint with his idiosyncratic take on raw, emotive house music following his destination void release alongside dj spider and brendon moeller last year. up first are two originals from the butcha, the first of which 99 prince st. lays focus on echoing atmospherics, snaking rhodes and shuffling dubbed out percussion while the latter, 6 hubert st. pivots towards an amalgamation an upfront organic rhythm alongside a weighty low end drive and wandering synth swells. to complete the package san franciscos matrixxman delivers two interpretations, firstly the acidized mix which as the name would suggest draws on squelching 303 lines layered over processed snippets from the original before the digital bonus transhuman mix closes on an arpeggio fuelled techno tip.

so kam die postmoderne über uns und machte aus vormals ehrbaren kulturschaffenden werksarbeiter, denen alle schrauben abhanden gekommen schienen, im besten fall. mit minimaler eigenleistung (nimmt man die unbeabsichtigten fehler in der produktion mal aus), aber bei maximaler entgleisung entstand ein gänzlich neuer berufszweig. der grundsolide werksarbeiter, mit gema anmeldung im griff und guten draht zu seinem steuerberater. um die quietschfidelen arpeggio terroristen soll es heute mal nicht gehen. unsere protagonisten dieser geschichte sind andere. wahnwitzige, soziophobiker, menschen mit gebrochenen lebensläufen statt joghurt im rucksack, emsig agierende mitstreiter mit tupperdose in der tasche für die frühstückspause, willens den kampf der letzten kulturoffensive zu ende zu bringen, samplen, pitchen, alles zerhacken und zu undefinierbaren fetzen von funk wieder zusammensetzen. ausgeglichen vom duft der natur ankommend den fortschritt definieren wollen und den strom in die maschinen juckeln. Ästheten der fehler waren geboren. losgelöst vom fließband. hart & tief wird geackert geschwitzt, gebimmelt, der filter aufgedreht, der schmutz schaufelweise rangekarrt, bis die stufe der erlösung erreicht wird oder eben halt auch nicht. das leben ist nun mal kein einziger orgasmus und der funk entsteht in den pausen wie die befriedigung der gier und der besitz des moments, weil das leben ist doch nur ein wimpernschlag und wir immer nur einen abgrund entfernt von weltekel oder erlösung.

sébastien léger delivers two solid originals and is backed up by arjuna schiks’ trippy dreamy remix. oracle has a french house sound to it characteristic of léger with a moroderesque arpeggio bassline. his excellent production skills shine brightest when he plays the keys in the second break. trytosphere is a somewhat new direction for the frenchman, a sunny track with a balearic feel to it. a real summer soundtrack. arjuna schiks adds a trippy take on the original with a nice upbeat energetic groove layered on top of a spacey bell and synth soundscape which echoes in the background.

mountain ash is an alias of producer lusty zanzibar. when the track portmanteau was sent to uber they immediately picked up this slice of hynotic experimental loveliness. layer upon layer of emotive synths and a pulsing arp help you drift towards a beautiful climax. coyote slow the pace a little keeping the hypnotic pulsing arpeggio and add some lazy beachside drums, percussion, a few pianos and kalimbas creating a beautiful beach bar shuffler. brooklyns finest zoovox create a subtle analogue rework staying close to original but adding their own delicate vibrations. drift away into the sunset.

cocoon recordings presents a freaked out deep techno highlight by two masters of their craft: gregor tresher & petar dundov! especially the a-side spike is a crazy monster and we do not exaggerate by writing that we have never heard something like this by these two masterminds before. mental, hypnotic and with a neverending synth firework that modulates with an endless release effect. the two really pushed electronic dance music at least ten steps further. tresher & dundov second mutual work on cocoon recordings follows with differentiator. the two stick to the basic concept of spike however this time it is the good old arpeggio that keeps on modulating until eternity. differentiator almost flows with a little trance appeal and there is even a cool and driving acid bassline giving us the final push. tresher & dundov present us two massive techno tunes that will definitely play in their own league this season!

koehler returns to berceuse heroique with his third release for the label. contra blood invokes the spirit of early no u turn records, infusing some techno dynamics, creating a very interesting anthem for people who don’t care about boundaries in dance music. flammarion breach combines his classic ‘ardcore techno sound with a repetitive arpeggio that recalls the tension of some of the best film scores by john carpenter. with rotating rupees, koehler delivers another beautiful ambient tune and this time its his ode to zelda.

continuing a sublime run of form for the label, the fourth outing on the lopasura imprint, is yet another classy trio of heady, analogue machine laden masterpieces. opening up with “out of the fog’, the familiar acidic arpeggio and crisp hits we’ve grown to love from benedikt frey, dance unwittingly along before being opened up by long, cinematic pads drenching the track with an emotion and grandeur so synonymous with his music. complimenting the a side, the looming intent ‘wolves’ adopts from the off evolves quickly into a driving, hypnotic and beautifully crafted piece that’s a true heads down, eyes-shut techno battle weapon. rounding off the ep on the b side is the exceptional ‘lights’. an unsettling, caliginous whir of industrial drones balances the tribal, percussive elements almost depicting a lost ship crashing over the swells of the ocean as it clings on to futile hope of finding the lighthouse. it meanders and threatens before an incredible synth hook ebbs in and takes over momentarily, before calmly simmering as the storm passes. never before has love pain sunshine and rain been more perfectly encompassed.
