slow glass is not only the debut release by le frère it is also a very personal diary of the last two years of his life. all four tracks are based on recordings, samples and ideas he collected while travelling the world. with the concept of slow glass in mind le frere tried to catch moments of his life without stripping them of their dynamic and evanescence. the ep starts with lots of positive energy and light but already reveals glimpses of the shadows that slowly emerge throughout the following tracks. nice is a lightly humming version of an (almost) innocent summer morning. it s a collage of field-recordings, synth-pads and manipulated guitar sounds. candid is a light and open dialog between a simple guitar theme and a playful synth-arpeggio. v1b1n creates the dense atmosphere of a rainy caribbean afternoon dominated by field recordings and everyday noises. nttt8-sets a counter point to the previous three tracks as the energy of le frere s travels cumulates in nttt8, making it a more dance-floor oriented piece carried by a dark and heavy bass-line and almost rave-sirens.

two years on from marius lauber aka roosevelt’s debut album, his sophomore effort young romance, released september 28, sees the dj, producer and vocalist break free from the dance floor and step out into the light, a transition he makes effortlessly as he asserts his place in the upper echelons of guitar and synth-pop royalty. having taken some time since his eponymous 2016 debut to tour tirelessly and pen remixes for chvrches, glass animals, rhye and more, this sophomore record began in his hometown of cologne before being finished in los angeles, where it was mixed by chris coady (beach house/grizzly bear/future islands). here, roosevelt covers the trials and tribulations of love, finding ‘home’, touring and losing touch, propelling himself into uncharted territory, both sonically and aesthetically.

la freund recordings presents a new ep from amsterdam based producer and modular synth enthusiast sjamsoedin. three varied tracks and two heavy remixes by simon weiss (rush hour / voyage direct) and claude (a.k.a. fulgeance) form the new label s second release. sjam sjamsoedin has been around the electronic music scene for over fifteen years, releasing music under various aliases. since 2011 sjamsoedin has been experimenting with a deeper and warmer sound built around strong grooves, combined with his love for (modular) synths and effects. orion is sjamsoedin s first full length ep under his own name. while the drums and pastel find their inspiration in the chicago house sound of the good old days, orion has more of a lush electronica vibe to it. both remixes add a heavier sound to complete the well rounded ep.

“sometimes life can kick you in the nads”, says dominick martin (aka calibre). “when life does do that, i need to make music like this. with its tones of hope and gospel-level layers of self-recorded vocals. raw, uplifting, soulfull...” even to the most ardent of calibre follower, “grow” sounds like nothing else he’s done before. yet it’s not actually on the album it gave a name to. partly because its ultimately positive veneer (even though it was written in the midst of two toxic relationships - one personal, one with the bottle) doesn’t quite complement the deeper, more contemplative aesthetic of the album. but also because this is the start of a whole new story for calibre...

vlad dinu opens mihai bravu s 1st release starting the audio journey with deep in my house, a track that occupies the entire a side, just like a proper tool should. as the name of the track hints, we find ourselves submerged in deep territory: a tight and groovy bass line, laced with a steady percussion, sprinkled with some 16bit arcade reminiscent accents and soothing intermingled vocal cuts. the deep vibe is crafty perpetuated by several synths at play, which together combine in such a way to add a wide atmospheric feel to the composition. definitely deep in my house sounds and feels more like of a 90’s tune, and while listening to it, one could easily find himself drift into the nostalgia of the good old days.
side b goes even deeper with two tracks defined by the notion of head tracks. gun zah continues the storyline with twisty percussive rhythms and a groovy atmosphere, tailored into a bangin floor choon while questions answered submerges the listener into layers of groovy basslines, swifty percs and milky synths, all put together into the form of a most alive track.

hot off collaborations with nottz (titans in the flesh ep) and madlib (bad neighbor lp), socal ambassador blu has teamed up with the paris-based production team union analogtronics (oj & gold) to unleash a new full length album: cheetah in the city. featuring dam-funk, phat kat, frank n dank, and more, the album signifies a stylistic sea change for blu, best known for his dusty, soul sampling collaborations with exile (below the heavens) and his own introspective opuses (her favorite colour, good to be home, york!). rippling with 808s and cinematic strings, cheetah in the city is an organic evolution from the synth-soaked, futuristic sound of analogtronics, union’s 2012 fat beats records debut album featuring talib kweli, mf doom, elzhi, guilty simpson, and more.

during their european tour earlier this year, canadian duo jokers of the scene stopped over for a couple of days at club bizarre studio in northern france. the two pair of producers locked up and came up with betaville and breakwater, two killer lo-fi and spaced out tracks. betaville is a fuzzy dream that will make you dance in slow motion with your head in the clouds. boasting a strong melodic and nostalgic feel, it unfolds its warm analog synth pads, old school sequences and drum machine to psychedelic effect. imagine boards of canada wanting to make you dance. even slower is breakwater, a dirtier, chunkier track that ditches the softness of betaville in favour of a more in your face bass line and all together rougher attitude. it chugs along to old fashioned beat box claps and percussion and quirky synth melodies. lastly betaville gets the timothy j fairplay treatment of being violently pulled apart and chucked in all corners. reminiscent of early chemical brothers music, a heavy beat slaps over agressive drugged up analog sound effects while a repetitive, haunting melody screams on top and reverberated vocals whisper in your ears. scary.

nick lapiens debut release as metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. a skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. that initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore. this, his second release as metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. the titular track on the a side is a deep, psychedelic groover. melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by lapien with optimum restraint. equally pensive and gorgeous, the flood serves as a machine’s beat-less foil on the reverse. made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of jean michel jarre’s more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. expect to hear more from lapien here at sequencias. he has many more dark corners left unexplored.

finally four brand new tracks, in pure classic cheers party style. two with a deep electro feeling, the kind we like over here in paris, rough and simple, with a dark tone and strong percussions. check especially the frame, a very special abstract track that you may enjoy right from the first listening. the cheers theme and night on earth are more in the old school garage vein (a sound that really comes back on the dancefloors those days), happy, melodic, uplifting, this is pure cheers party heaven! dedicated to all the cheers addicts!

francis harris is a founding member of the scissor & thread label a brooklyn-based imprint established 2011 as an outlet for deeper, more personal sounds, as well as music from a range of associated artists including black light smoke, bob moses, frank & tony, dj aakmael, desert sound colony and aris kindt, to name a few. harris own output has gone from tightly wound tech house cuts as adultnapper in the early days, sublime deep house as frank & tony, intricate and expressive musical journeys as evident in his two solo-albums ‘leland and ‘minutes of sleep, and ambient shoegaze with two aris kindt albums, co-produced with gabe hedrick. most recently harris branched out with a new label kingdoms a home for his love of a more adventurous sound. now we are proud to present his new solo single, the first since the release of ‘minutes of sleep, ‘minor formswhich includes two remarkable remixes by valentino mora. more we cannot do is a perfect example of harris feel for depth and dynamics a track that feels submerged in a warm amniotic fluid cocooning the listener in a thick subby bassline, providing much of the groove, with skittering percussion on top and intricate fragments of melody throughout leading to a wonderful moment with live vibraphone provided by new york player will shore. minor forms, the eps title track is cut from similar cloth emerging from a subtly distant place to inhabit a melancholic, beautifully evocative space somewhere between ambient, jazz and the dancefloor. joining harris is greg paulus on trumpet, a long time friend and collaborator adding his signature touch to an already moving piece.

2 years ago, we celebrated our 10 years with 5 anniversary eps entitled 10 by ten, where we asked 10 of our favorite artists to write an exclusive track for the occasion. two of the stand out tracks were martin iveson - aka atjazz - leave me here as well as art of tones, koniokola, which we thought deserved a second life. freerange and delusions of grandeur boss, jimpster, blesses us with his deep yet driving rendition of leave me here, while fred everything chooses to update koniokola with a more dance floor approach and a strip down dub. we also included the original of leave me here which was never available on vinyl.

somewhere iii is set to be released as two vinyl samplers, with a selection of the tracks featured in the full digital compilations, which will feature four extra digital only tracks. a host of familiar sohaso figures make an appearance, but there is also room for new faces like aril brikha, kaap, ripperton in his stunning collab with love over entropy, equus, tracey and mulder. every artist on this somewhere iii compilation is expressing their unique experience through sound waves, telling stories and uncovering a piece of themselves. there are things radiating in the violet fog, waiting to be discovered. journeys that are worth making, but will not necessarily provide any more answers. something is happening somewhere, once again. love over entropy teaming up with ripperton, could we wish for more? it felt like a dream team combo before we even heard the resulting beauty of saints de glace. inspired by those last nightly frosts of spring days in may, it sounds exactly like those contrasting temperatures and feelings. down tempo organic grooves and a drifting melody that ebbs in and out of consciousness provide disparity with the glimmering pads that lure in the night air waiting to catch you off guard.

the sweetest- volume 2 sees on a side the driving and elegant detroit jazzy styled house of twovi from bari, the soft chicagoish swing of tadao from perugia and the chilled funky - filtered and disco-infected vibe of the archivio record store s boss dj rou from bologna. b side starts more minimalistic and trippy with -lara sogna- by already known producer and masterchef livio improta from napoli (already on rawax) , changing then on a romantic and sensual direction with the perrone brothers s project -easy to remember- , unclear s duo from arezzo, and the closing piece by russian danny dust called -days on earth-

the second of two zentrum spinoffs is with us! as with the first, it comes loaded with four remixes. octo octa, vito & druzzi, cooper saver and turbotito, and lemonade all handed in top-notch reimaginings of tracks off jacques renault s debut lp, which came out just under a year ago, and they all somehow manage to be unique unto themselves while also sublimely bleeding into one another. octo octas rendering of mi casa samba serves as a propulsive beginning thats as dark and druggy as it is sharp and focused. vito & druzzis take on faith runs in a similar vein, but in a more stripped-back, drawn-out, and patient sort of way, it is nearly ten minutes long, so this is perhaps not a surprise. the b s remixes are brighter, sunnier, though that s not to say they re not bold. cooper saver and turbotito s redo of words has a certain funky swing to it that, paired with spacey synths and balearic bells and whistles, makes it ideal daytime disco fodder. the lemonade boys close the ep with their vibey take on faith. pads for days, a plump bass, and a focus on the original s sax make you wonder if the song itself somehow got stoned from a couple extra giant bong rips. a fitting way to end both the 12inch and the summer.

the rawkers ep…more than 10 years after the release of cassius first album, the duet comes out with a 6 tracks project that mustn’t have left a lot of people whove listened to it indifferent. well, if there are two people who appreciated the ep, it is jay-z & kanye west, aka the throne, who sampled the famous i <3 uso on their track why i love you, turning it into an absolute popular anthem. if the former album of the band was a tribute to adolescence, here it is more about the earliest days of ours, as the song les enfants (children) depicts it. to such an extent that the rawkers ep sounds like a gigantic playground, full of joy and happiness. were glad to repress this record and to give you an opportunity to escape through this enchanting opus, before cassius new album is released.

after a best-selling debut record, low budget family - an independent moscow-based record label run by the crew behind the legendary shop&bar denis simachev formation return, and how! king solomons mines from simple symmetry is quite a classic in the making - a deceptively simple workout that reminds of mid 80s boyd jarvis jams, but shot through with 21st century twists and turns, that amplify those tough drum machines, anthemic afro elements, chants and marimba riffing. add a truly dynamic arrangement and you have a dancefloor dynamite! it is disco royalty on the remix tip as soft rocks & brennan green step up. as expected, given the incredible ingredients, the two of them shine. soft rocks set up a classic euro flavoured afro-trance workout, utilising the parts against a far more electronic and unrelenting backdrop, building to a sweaty, strobe-lit finale. brennan green may be less than prolific these days, but he is dependable as ever here. working up a synth-soaked, prelude style dub, whose classic elements will work the floor from here to zanzibar…

(selected dub)<, a reshape of an old jazz tune, rounds out the compilation. > in the early days it was difficult to afford more than one or two records..< i would buy compilations because the value was greater and i was exposed to artist that i might not have known about otherwise,< he says. >when i think of compilations i think of mix the vibe, soul of science, trust the dj and of course dj-kicks. i learned a great deal from these series over the years and developed my own ideas based on what i love to hear thus selected was born. released soul people musics new sub-label, boards.

bristol music has always stood strongest as an alternative to the lowest common denominator, and so it is with brstl as the label continues to provide a platform to previously undiscovered talent in the underbelly of the citys flourishing house scene. following lauded debuts from shanti celeste and jay l, the sixth installment in the series turns to another unknown in the shape of samuel. as with other releases on brstl, 006 is made up of two distinct halves. on the a-side, >numberuma< delivers machine driven house of a rugged and charming nature. the drums switch up with playful intent but largely centre around a forward-charging 4/4 pulse with a faint hint of tropical flavour rubbed into the groove. meanwhile the limber lead keys speak of sunnier days through a cracked lens while the accompanying chord swells intone an equally uplifting and nostalgic message. while from the outset the track may be wrought from simple ingredients, the dynamic interplay between the different elements belies the producers years. on the flip, >groove therapy< opts for a more esoteric approach made up of long, dreamy lead-ins full of distant pads and delicate percussion and transitions as smooth as silk. indeed this track makes a smart foil to >numberuma<, choosing to snake its way into the subconscious through delicate melodic content and an undulating beat rather than rambunctious rhythm. slow-release filters draw that aforementioned pad in before sending it out to sea once more, and all the while the stripped back drums tick out a hypnotic chant. once again a pair of unique tracks loaded with character prove brstl to be an essential outpost for the most creative 4/4 music emanating from the west country.

micatone come off with a true masterpiece of sophisticated pop with their new and fifth album >wish i was here< (released in march 2012). not only the music press and feuilletons but also old devoted and newly found fans agree: micatone never sounded better before. the second offspring off the album is a 2-tracker with two very special remixes. label mate stee downes takes on >sweet pain< as if it was his own track and kicks out a vivacious deep house stormer. there is no doubt that this remix will be in every bag of those djs that put some more emotions on the floor. the second remix was orderd in italy - in bologna to be exact. keemani and alex ferratti just started their new project blue mondays and now – with their rework of >just a boy< – promisingly launch their career to become the next in-demand remixers. they dont just lay a vocal track over a pre-programed beat, but use all of their devotion, accuracy and finesse to turn an already astonishing pop song into an anthem for everlasting nights. it is like preparing the perfect sugo: simmer exquisite ingedients for days until your mouth is watering. perfetto!

bon & rau are rainy citys newcomer jacques bon and christopher rau. jacques is originally from paris and takes care of the smallville recordstore in la cité d amour. he fell in love with hamburg though when he first came there and calls st. pauli a home since a little while now. while hanging at smallville record store in hamburg, he met christopher rau, who blew away the whole smallville crew with his > ne travaillez jamais< on dérive records in 2008 and had his smallville debut with >childhood< on smallville 16. the youngsters teamed up as bon & rau and we are proud to present the 12inch debut of another smallville dreamteam. cloverleaf days was already presented on the smallvilles label compilation cd -and suddenly its morning-, that gained huge reputation last year- but it more than deserved an appearance on 12inch now. a reduced groove that takes you to somewhere unsearchable. the b-side presents two versions of brothers & sisters- a modern house-anthem that twists into your ears with a subtle melody. the poodle dub on b2 rounds up a perfect 12inch with a tribute to hamburgs finest golden pudel club. three tracks that can definitely make the moment on the dancefloor.

>the cockpit< is my personal favourite song of the chelonis album and it has taken my sleepless night (and days) to watch out for the right remixers. now that all new versions are ready, i m more than happy because all three fellows have felt the real vibe of the original song. a spezial thanx to ekkohaus who delivered two different mixes and spent a lot of energy and passion into these productions. and also merci to steve rachmad and paul woolford, guys who stand rather for techno, however improved their soul into creating passionated tech house! chapeau! christopher spero a.k.a glimpse has really made a name for himself the way that producers and djs in this day and age should: by making tasteful music of the highest caliber, and putting substance over style. these two tracks co-produced with frequent collaborator and head of the hypercolour label, alex jones, put that said taste on display in a refined and elegant form of house music.true friends pumps right from the beginning with a chunky rolling kick drum only made denser by the thick brushing percussion that surrounds it. before the beats become to overwhelming a soothing male vocals drifts in reminding how hard it is these days to find a true friend. a stark tune of epic proportions. returning with a similar pressure from drum programming aesthetic, which basically means hefty percussion layered over warm and tumbling drums. æcambria sets itself apart from the a-side with a more open-air vibe. light piano notes float along side softly played wind instruments, creating a surreal dreamlike audio experience that still has the tools to do damage on the dance floor. glimpse and alex jones have really put some true style, grace and class into their music. masters at creating a distinctive sound that exist in the space where warm and lush tones meet musicality and stimulation. a summer record with good vibes scrawled all over it.

first release for this new italian label, who claim to bring techno back to its top level. we re inclined to agree with those sentiments, as are the others who have received promos of the release. the a side consists of two deep and dark techno tracks, that should also find favour with more minimal djs. they are apparently by a popular northern european artist, going under the guise of ????. the label has kept such a secret that we dont even know who it is. on the b side, we have a soz adams (esperanza, archipel, gumption) remix of label head obtane and fris, which is a retro chicago style excursion, and german duo sebastian herre and obscure close the ep with a more detroit techno inspired track.
