this is a collection of works from british musician gp hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. for over four decades, guitar in hand hall encountered many styles, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. all contributed to the creation of his unique style. emerging from the british blues boom of the 1960’s, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. in spain, he was influenced by flamenco master manitas del plata before touring europe with liverpool band casey jones & the governors. he was commissioned three times (twice by the arts council of great britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970’s as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. during the 1980’s hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. with this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. these sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.

slam city jams is back with its second release, produced by young brussel based artist kassett. this multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called midlife. kassett aka gavin vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. however, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: rave ambient. the all i feel 1 million ep‘ is a record full of diversity. it reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. finally the cherry on top of this special ep, is a remix by lobster theremin regular imre kiss. he delivered a dark and dubby version of the a2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

the label is gradually working through colin’s revered back catalogue of cassette only releases, with previous titles the scythe and two nights selling out instantly. his run of half of a dozen home recorded, diy / minimal synth cassettes between 1980 and 1982 is rightly granted legendary status, influencing a slew of home produced diy experimental electronic artists and all attaining high collectors prices online for original copies. so these lp sets filled out with all manner of unreleased cuts, demos and excluded tracks truly are a treat.

repress - unreleased early algerian synth electronic by ahmed malek, compiled and co-produced by flako. in the early 1980s, ahmed malek was already in his 50s, when he discovered synthesizers and electronic music for himself and started to experiment with sounds. the result was a mixture of ambient synth music, field recordings he made in cuba and a wide variation of different sound experiments that he also presented as different avanguarde music festivals in cuba and the us. none of it was ever released but we got a huge box of master tapes from his family and we re happy to present this different side of ahmed malek s music. it was compiled and co-produced by flako, a fan of early electronic and synth music. this is not a remix album though, flako s aim was to create an album out of 2 hours of material that sounds like it might have if mr. malek would have finished it himself before of his death. fully approved and licensed from the artists family. the album comes with an informative booklet with liner notes, an interview with flako regarding his approach towards the production and unseen photos. we will also release a third album by ahmed malek which will be more in the vein again of the music he is known for and this album will also be previously unreleased.
