a pair of producers based in kent, england, synth sense are steadily making a name for themselves with a particularly distinct, deeper synth-driven sound. on their first release for phunkfiction, the two have again teamed up with vocalist rose, whom they had great success with when both featured on aniles gorgeous seeking you. rose can be heard on a side i belong, a masterfully minimal number that somehow combines an almost 80s synth vibe with beats that are pure future. the lyrics here are more assertive than in seeking you, and the singular snare certainly has an authoritative air. two men, one woman and some machines all working in sweet harmony to produce near sonic perfection.unsurprisingly more mechanical is program 3.2, with friendly little robotic bleeps complimenting the standard synth sense soundscape rather well. despite being overtly synthetic in sound, the depth displayed is so warm and lush it shows just how far both software and the beatsmiths that manipulate it have come in recent years. these guys are just what the minimal drum n bass scene needs.

rephlex knows virtually nothing about this artist. we discovered him via internet forum rumours a couple of years ago. all our communication has been very sporadic and unusual. we know his name but are not allowed to disclose it. all we can say about his location is europe. we think he probably makes music using a computer but we are not sure. we dont think he has released anything before. but the kids love it! and so do we. one might say that it has elements of electroacoustic sound sculpture colliding with fierce drum and bass rhythms but this wouldnt really be describing it too well. its atmospheric future music, available on retro vinyl only for the foreseeable.

if you are in to dreamy piano sounds and poppy vocal cuts this is one to check out. beautiful drifting melodies combined with 90s pop like vocals and rolling beats. the singers on this release know how to catch your attention. especially the track on the flip >put me down< has potential to become a true radio anthem.

cometh the tma-1 ep on space cadets, with asc kicking off 2012 in style after a hugely prolific 2011. demonstrating a number of musical influences whilst fusing them all together in a truly original manner, the tma-1 ep showcases the diversity of james clements productions.
opening with a menacing atmosphere, tma-1 evolves into the classy aqualoop, a stripped back underwater exploration. on the flip, esper provides some steppy funk before exiting with a trip through the atmospheric plains of sarang.

the outside agencys eighth release on their crossbreed label one seven five is host to collaborations with some serious international heavyweights. favorite sin is a collaboration with belgiums peter kurten and the french duo katharsys. double, triple and quadruple timed machine gun fire timed to precision tells you how john milton really feels about his favorite cardinal sin. the collaboration with czechs snare-master forbidden society is rife with dark atmospherics and a kick that will take your nuts off. we would tell you more, but it really never happened and it doesnt exist.

the dirty dubsters team up with new york dancehall legend screechy dan and rising reggae star whandah the dainty queen , along with sax-man anton petelchyts of fusion wave to produce a big beat reggae fused vocal track. on the remix duties hungarian badman elo of the irie maffia ups the tempo to bring in a big club heavy moobahton remix, jstar then flips the track for a big bass heavy dub version of the track. jinx in dub comes in with a dancehall dnb cross over track and finally dj zetek adds a straight drum and bass remixes to polish off the release.
