the final instalment of the innerground album sampler singles features two of the heavy hitters in the production stakes in recent times. the tried and tested combination of dj marky & makoto has brought many a dancefloor to its knees, whilst new addition, t>i, has shown he has the mettle to dice with some of the biggest names in the game.
long time champion of the playaz sound, jaydan brings two monster hits to the innerground imprint. two vastly different tracks that are on heavy rotation from some of the biggest names around including, of course, dj marky.
nine years on from their debut release, innerground records, the label set up and run by acclaimed dj and producer dj marky, is set to celebrate its landmark fiftieth release. having been home to a slew of top quality releases over the years from the likes of random movement, calibre and s.p.y to name just a few, the imprint are marking the singular occasion with something very special indeed.
what better way to mark this special occasion for the label than two classic marky productions that epitomize the quality and timelessness that both he and the label command. here’s to the next 50.
flaco returns to the innerground fray with the follow up to his digital release >light em up<. going into heavy rotation this time, and already a staple in the dnb illuminatis record box, is a vinyl release showcasing both sides of this versatile producers nature. stacking up the a-side is the wonderfully worked >isla verde<. knowing that this is a spectacular looking area of puerto rico allows the listener to envisage where the inspiration for the track came from. a lamentingly deep bassline and eloquent beat transports you to long sandy beaches and an untouched blue sky.
the flip >gonna take time< is far more dancefloor oriented, with a stabbing bassline and equally truncated beat that makes for non-stop movement in the dark confines of the nightclub.
after the stunning ep release that was >rush hour ep<, innerground is happy to welcome back one of its favourite sons, makoto. makoto is a veritable legend of the scene, not only in his native japan, but across the globe. his ability to lend his skills to almost any kind of beat alongside any other producer is world class. it is alongside our very own dj marky that makoto has found some of his best form, and we have encapsulated it here into one coherent and compelling vinyl vision.
many will know of zincs stature in the word of dnb, from classic tracks such as >casino royale< for tru playaz, to a series of hits for his own label, bingo beats. now, reincarnated in the house genre, zinc has asked dj marky and fellow consort s.p.y. to remix one of his latest and greatest club anthems, >wile out<. with ms dynamite on vocals, the original has been doing some serious damage on the circuit, and the dnb refix by marky & s.p.y. is something truly special. due out in july on innerground records, this will be an exceptional addition to any self-respecting djs record box.
dutch producer switch kicks things off in 2010, with a sultry blend that is currently doing serious damage on the dancefloors.
>its your life< is a smooth, deep roller that captivates from the very first bar and is synonymous with the innerground sound. a gentle vocal punctuates the track as the bassline and beats blend harmoniously with the background keys.
>vibes from the tribes< takes on a whole new persona of its very own, with a more staccato beat system and a bassline that throbs like a sunday morning headache ? unerring and continuous throughout the track, it really does add that element of je ne sais quoi.
dj marky returns in 2009 with a special ep release alongside long time friend and new-found musical co-conspirator, s.p.y. marky is well known for championing burgeoning new talent across the board and in s.p.y. and new vocalist miri, he has found two absolute gems. regardless of who the collaboration is with, marky always manages to find the elements of funk and soul indicative of a dj marky track. s.p.y. is really coming into his own in 2009 as an artist in his own right, with a string of big releases receiving masses of airplay, making him one of the most sought after properties in dnb.
the give me your love e.p. is packed full of the soulful, deep grooves that are synonymous with the innerground imprint, whether it be the sultry vocals and bounding rhythm of >days go slow< or the so-called liquid, jump-up elements of tapestry. both artists production skills are more than evident in kinky funky, which has been a dancefloor hit almost as much as the outstanding title track give me your love as it ebbs and flows through the myriad of tight beats and heavy basslines.
innerground welcomes two new sets of faces to the roster in the shape of electrosoul system and one of brazils finest, drumagick. electrosoul system have been making waves in 2008 with various releases hitting the streets and decimating the dancefloor, most notably the beautiful moving in transit. now possibly one of their finest tracks to date with you will be gracing the innerground catalogue and what a belter it is. with a tantalising beginning, the track is pure compressed beats and blips until the massive drop of resonating, undulating bass.
