next up in the apparel music limited series is loure with a 4 track ep which also includes a remix by saine. the name of this work by the aussie is smooth talk and it contains all the stylistic elements that make the melbournian one of the most talented in the scene at the moment. the ep kicks off with the title track which can be certified as a dancefloor banger with its solid rhythmics and the smooth synths playing along with a hint of acid keeps going with mutual motion which gives a display of what this guy can do in terms of creating spacey deep harmonies. such a groovy way to lower the tones before the remix of the 1st track smooth talk. saine here puts his signature once again with another banging tune crafted on loure sounds. adding his touch with deep percussions. a substantial compact beat with a bass-line that will get you carried away. the closing track is the right decompression after a journey through sounds: rolling snares. vocal samples chasing each other and a happy touch to finish in style.
inside out is a brand new series that invites djs and producers to blur the boundaries between traditional artist albums and mix compilations. coming from aus music label head and dj-kicks curator will saul. the concept encourages artists to showcase their own music and or the music of those in their own individual circles. the mix will be release digitally and on cd. while a selection of the tracks will also be available on double gatefold vinyl. each instalment will feature 100% new and unreleased music. it is a chance for artists to take sole creative charge. a&r as they see fit and then commission brand new music specifically for the cause. depending on who is at the helm. inside out will take different forms: producers may wish to represent their own sound with only music they have made themselves or with close collaborators. while djs and label heads may wish to reflect the sounds and scenes that surround them. the results will be a window into an artists world that works as a coherent mix. but also as a treasure trove of fresh new music that steps outside the usual lines of a dance album. the idea stems from will sauls own approach in the club. which often finds him seeking out brand new and unheard music to play for the first time. that feeling of taking people into the unknown is one that reminds him of the energy and excitement of his early days as a dancer.
a new year means new musical horizons here at the bordello. curses formed his sound in the distortion and sweat of back alley dive bar bars amidst the crash of guitars and the audible gulp of beer. hints of disco and wave balance this rougher edge. smoothing down those creased lines for a style that adheres to no boundaries. -pedal to the metal and don t look back- is a perfect introduction to curses multifaceted sound. beats orbit burbling bass and brash strings in a work of dreamy hypnotics. -knife in teeth- comes from a similarly shadowy lair. dark bars are further inked by industrial percussion in a track born on the factory floor to strict ebm parents. terr takes on -pedal to the metal and don t look back- and does the original proud. bass rumbles to the tune of a guttering engine before lighter notes take hold. murky currents are cleared by bright synth blasts in this uplifting remake. the bird of paradise closes the ep with his psychedelic take on -knife in teeth.- drums take on a more sinister tone as tribal rhythms give rise to jungle imagery and the immediate threat of what might lurk behind those supposedly innocent sounds.
amsterdam-based duo dj windows xp provide the next ep for live ones. serving up apple infused. sample driven rhythms that ll pop cherries you never knew you had. the pair have previously offered provoking selections on dj haus imprint e-beamz and the amsterdam based who s susan to high acclaim. the biggest contradiction is that none of their music is actually produced on a windows computer - and quite rightly so. what will come next from the duo depends entirely on whether they finally decide to perform that software update.

sudd records make the leap to vinyl with the help of detroit champ gari romalis. abstraxx (linear mix) kicks off the record in a heady fog of undulating pads. the smoke positively drifting out of the speaker cones over a simple. deep-as-you-like drum pattern. dark ryda (sunset mix) gets a little more funk in its rhythm. but the same mellow mood prevails. almost reaching dub techno levels in its atmospheric chord swells. heat (bout that life mix) takes things out of the darkness and into a lighter frame of mind. but romalis is still firmly in the deep end of the deep house pool with this final cut on the record.

those wizards of digging psychemagik doing the business once again. hot on the heels of last year s monstrous gotta hold on me / wildman they re letting folks know that they were still out there searching in the darkest recesses of the last 40+ years of popular and unpopular music. and boy oh boy are they good at it! the trip lives up to it s name. the track kicks off with some ultra beefed up psychedelic shenanigans. swirling. cacophonous sounds whirl and sweep and gradually drag us into the holographic tunnel. gradually giving way to some heavyweight drums and percussions and unfurling into a muscular psych-discoid beast. this one will send the kids crazy and will undoubtedly cause some damage in the club. both sonically and mentally. but what is the original? we hear you say... answers on a postcard please. sisters of the moon on the flip-side is a very different animal - all laid back. laconic steel-guitars and thundering slo-mo drums and percussion. the dark side of a rural witchcraft dream exposed here. almost menacing... and then? those vocals spring out of the mix amidst the throbbing sexually charged atmosphere and drag us back into the realm of near reality with sultry moans and groans. this one s woozy alright. but in the best possible way. so wrong. it s right and possibly the natural soundtrack to too many of those strange shots that that guy in the weird hat gave us earlier when we entered that country pub. what guy? i hear you ask.... ultimate freak-disco and deepest druid funk for the discerning and psychedelically inclined record consumer.

gitanes is olde gods new ep and longest output to date. following a series of singles on the minor planets label. the barcelona duo are up to a 12inch four-tracker on amsterdams atomnation. gitanes brings echoes from spains not-long gone golden club era. its cover depicts an abandoned club from the 90s in a coastal town in the mediterranean. could be anywhere from valencia to barcelona. all four tracks are trippy yet solid-grounded. spacey voices and strings leads all flying up and magically suspended over gross rhythmical foundations. dear cz. a fetiche track. built around a moody casio cz synth stab topped up with acid videogame-like crazyness. gitanes brings entrancing vocals intertwined with more cz pad action. all around is a foggy and paranoid late-night drive. and none of these bitches. a homesick folks walk around tokyos daikanyama area. olde gods are jmii and guillamino

12" Vinyl UK09.03.18
dokta has been seen lurking around 20:20 vision with a curious take on that label s particular brand of house. that step to the left becomes more pronounced on this record. where dokta gets to call on a wealth of live instrumentation to animate his sound. on london nights he interweaves vocal. ambling keys and crooked basslines into a curious and utterly inspired cocktail of cool-headed pressure. which jason heath then simmers down to a purely instrumental refrain. burnski goes to the other extreme and beefs the track up for a firm and functional ride. while ralph lawson dubs the track out and gives it a low slung swagger.

having previously appeared alongside tommi vicari jr on a 12inch last year. opto mystics strike out on their own with this 12inch for italian powerhouse vibraphone. new horizon very much represents the new school approach with the long serving italian house label. keeping that deep. melodic quality but embracing new rhythms. tones and approaches. new horizon almost has an akufen quality to it. while bucky triangle could easily transmit from the motor city house scene. m.i.y.e. is a swirling blur of gorgeous synths. and -suddent- finishes the ep off on a surprisingly experimental tip.

four tracks of ny-flavoured boogie and house goodness - quality is the key word from copenhagen based music for dreams and here is another home run. willie graff splits his year between dj residencies in new york and ibiza. in this new outing with studio partner darren eboli. the influence is. as the title suggests. clearly ny-based. over only four tracks. the pair manage to craft a stunningly comprehensive exploration of the essential elements of dance music. opening track -love flight- staggers into a lush string-driven groove that recalls the glory of metro area meets wally badarou vibes. minimal yet playful. it lounges somewhere in the depths of the house tradition. calling on familiar sounds while throwing in odd details along the way (harmonicas?). it takes both skill. devotion and a sense of humor to pull this track off. making for a strong opening. -moon tan- lingers on a metallic hook that drags you into a plethora of percussion followed by a rubbery soft baseline. dubby key work would suggest this was a new wave band jamming at compass point. while the icy chill of the xylophone transports you into 80s italo territory. -second sun- pulls out the bag of boogie tricks. relying on a firm but humble baseline and smattering drum machine claps. nile rodgers-style guitar licks guide us onwards into a well-orchestrated jam that builds up and breaks down with perfect timing while dreamy chords reach for the sky. -first light- keeps the groove tight while dipping over towards more balearic temperatures. steeped in a watery atmosphere and gentle organic percussion. it focuses in on a trance-inducing arpeggio that lulls you in to the swaying badarou-style synth swirls that intercept it.

edmondson first came to my attention with his lobster theramin distributed release. flamingo tripper. on his own label lissoms. or so i thought. turns out he was actually a guy who used to serve me in one of my favourite pubs in newcastle. back in those days he was a dub step / drum and bass kid. and as per the trend with all of those guys. hes now showing the house heads how its done. with a much keener feel for sound design. groove and a better ear for a sample than 90% of us lazy people who cut our teeth on a 4/4 beat. edmondson (or sean as i did know him and how i know him once again) is really one of the most exciting producers out there right now for me. and i couldnt be happier that weve reconnected and hes kindly allowed me me me to present some of his amazing music. we have love is an instant classic. and psg is a work of pure emotive art. to remix we have love. ive enlisted dauwd (fresh from his amazing album on technicolour). sean suggested him. and i jumped on the suggestion as he was one of the first people i met when i moved to berlin 4 years ago. and ive been trying to figure out a way of working with him since. he takes a we have love down a kind of more delicate and steppy route. its very pretty. but also really makes you want to dance. to remix psg i asked asok. again. i thought i first met asok about 7 or 8 years ago. when he came and played for a party i used to throw in newcastle. after becoming good friends over the years. we got chatting and it turned out that we were both in magaluf in 1998. and may have actually been involved in the same street brawl. thats not something either of us are proud of. but its definitely food for thought. i’m biased. but i think his remix is my favourite thing he’s ever done. and i love everything he’s touched musically to date. so thats probably an even bigger endorsement than it first seems. his version is big.
lüüd discs is back on wax with the misunderstood ep by luvless. specific & powerful deep house from germany. strictly timed to the rhythm of your heart so that the wind that breathes in the aubrac can establish contact with the loved one.
echovolt is thrilled to finally bring you the work of the first greek producer on their growing reissue catalog offering two ultra-rare recordings that lived on the shelf for exactly two decades. the then 16-year old starcount recorded those two stripped-down cuts straight to dat tape in his bedroom studio in athens during the late 90s between cutting classes and sailing in the aegean sea. despite his young age both calma and jeraldine showcase top notch production skills with solid arrangements featuring the typical vocal samples of the period underlined by hypnotic melodies. jazzy chords and a densely populated pallet of drum hits. it is most likely that the above mentioned tracks might be the earliest detroit influenced productions ever made in greece around that time! suitable for night cruising and any kind of rides with friends and family!
