jun kamoda is a producer, dj and mc from tokyo. new to the label but a friend of the party, jun came to mister sunday in nyc last year and ended up hanging around for a few days afterward, digging for records and sharing bowls of spaghetti with the boys. when he returned to japan, he got to working on the music we now present to you on the clay ep. this is jun blending loopy, psychedelic disco stylings with chugging drum work for three party-ready cuts. they’ve been chopping up our dance floors months, we’re excited to hear them do the same to yours.

man of the moment mako returns to warm communications with a cinematic 3 track 12 inch. do you feel the same? is trademark mako giving new meaning to the phrase rough & the smooth. all we can do is more cinematic abstractions from mr redmore as well as too broke to get it. we love when he lets his freak flag fly.

vibing off of light, layered keys and female r&b coos, break gives us a rolling five minutes of pure a-side. not to be lost in the air, a thickly chopped break plays overtop sub bass as filter resonances enter at the offsides, carefully touching on the interplay of voice and gated percussion. this is a rattling piece thats as much deep house as it is liquid step.

mako has his first full outing for the headz camp via meth xx, the fertile breeding ground for new metalheadz artists that gives them a chance for to express themselves with the music they are making right now.

mako returns to dispatch recordings for his first solo ep, consisting of four tracks steeped the classic roots of the 90s sound we all know and love. aptly entitled the *back to the source ep*, mako explores vast atmospheric soundscapes, a careful selection of raw, authentic samples and an immaculate programming of amen breaks.

currently making waves on some high profile drum & bass labels, mako graces warm communications with his second release and first full solo 12. breaks upon breaks are served up on the rough and rugged 12. *a break from ritual* sees mako on one of his toughest outings yet. punishing breaks layered over deep, growling basslines mixed with a sense of tension in the pads. *what a little moonlight can do* sees mako on a halftime feel. steppy percussion, deep bass & swirling pads make this one great for the floor as well as home listening.

makoto returns to apollo with the primitive ep. as he builds his fast-paced style into a leaner, more aggressive manifestation of the soulful makoto sound, it quickly becomes clear that no one genre or signifier can fully describe this new collection of five tracks, from the rampant tribal ideology of *primitive* through the freestyle explorations of *ritual*.

it is team time again as we issue yet another huge collaborative effort from some of the scenes most accomplished producers and biggest names. dis070 draws together the collective powerhouse force of dlr, hydro, villem, fields, mako and linden over two tracks to provide an outing of gigantic proportion, individually each producer within their own right is more than capable of delivering the goods in solo work mode, so imagine the results you would get from locking them all up in a dark studio room together for hours on end to channel their combined genius! well the result of that scenario is right here and is everything and more you may expect it to be.

it is not often you get to hear the wizardy of tom withers aka klute on the remix tip but we managed to secure his services & he has served up a masterpiece. excellent synth work & hypnotic drums under mesmerising lush chords. random movement has delivered an absolute gem for mars alongside production partner jaybee. >same ol me< has a nice rolling energy & uplifting vibe.

cia records is an imprint who has remained at the centre of drum & basses history, with esteemed producers total science creating it during the genre’s formative years in 1997. the forthcoming ep on cia, field’s ‘intention dub’, highlights the eclectic mix of artists who have joined the roster since its first release. featuring a variety of collaborative producers, the six-track ep exemplifies the talented intricacies of fields and his masterful song compositions. the names that run alongside fields stand out within their own right, with underground stalwarts mako, and mcleod, roller top dog break, frequent partner villem (who go under their pseudonym mute) and forren, who also makes an appearance. as a collective, they represent many of the artists who helped cia build their impressive back catalogue.

for the past 15 years the tanzanian megalopolis of dar es salaam has had one of the most exciting underground electronic music scenes in east africa. a constellation of micro-scenes from mchiriku, sebene and segere all the way to its latest mutation of singeli that finally after years of lurking in the underground has exploded into the mainstream and taken over bongo flava as the music of choice amongst tanzania s youth. born in the sprawling working class neighborhoods of tandale and manzese, singeli s signature sound consists of fast paced frantic loops interlocking with each other, with influences from zanzibars tarab music all the way to south african afro-house coupled with mc s who often spit satirical lyrics about the challenges facing tanzania s youth, from police corruption to the complications of dating girls when you are broke. if there is one studio that stands out amongst the hundreds that dot dar es salaam s musical landscape it is sisso records. centered around producers, bwax, sisso, bampa pana and yung keyz morento and mc s dogo niga and makavelli, they were early pioneers of the singeli sound. whilst some singeli artists have begun fusing their music with more traditional tanzanian hip hop, sisso have remained uncompromising in their sound, always raw, fast with a punk diy aesthetic that can at times verge on noise and gabber, to produce a spell binding music that is like no other sound system culture in the region.
