after mukatsuku records summer hammond organ screamer from billy hawks (mukat 052) the label goes deep on an international funk tip. few years ago label manager nik played in france and the promoter pulled out a biosis now 45 that he never knew existed up till then and was generally thought to be a long album track only. an extensive search revealed nothing online including popsike/discogs/ebay except a tropical seller who d just bought a huge caribbean collection with the record included saying he d never seen it before either and he was keeping itâ€,¦failing to secure a copy themselves the label licensed it instead and created their own 45 edit which retains all the funk & soul of the elongated album version into a 7 inch friendly format. on the flipside and 1973 tumba safari from afro train get s a funky afrobeat re touch for peak time club play that would save you several hundred pounds on an original if you could actually find a copy !

as part of our 10 years anniversary mukatsuku is proud to release the holy grail instrumental long version co produced by tommy stewart of “brotherson” from atlanta usa resident ojeda penn.
there were two versions of the album “happiness” on the ife independent label. they looked almost identical but the first version contained the now rarer elongated jazz fused instrumental version of “brotherson” and then a few months later they recut the album with a much shorter version adding strings and vocals.
the former version is now being sold up to £500 so this 12” is a welcome release to the reissue market. according to mr penn this is the first time either version has been reissued officially and mukatsuku after many years of discussion is glad to finally be in a position to finally put out both versions on one phat 12”.

two tracks officially licensed and remastered and never before issued on a 45 before. taken from the self titled hungarian album from 1981 dimenzio’s “bamba” is jazz dancefloor monster in the true sense of the word and is a gilles peterson club classic. on the flip the lesser known “diamant” from french artist marius cultier and taken from the 1975 album “ouelele souskai”.
they sometimes say that perseverance will win the day in the end and this is what happened with the afro funk monster of *piani* from french african artist jo tongo that took several years of negotiation to bring to the fruition of a potential mukatsuku records release. from the haunting intro this is one tune that you will never forget after first listen as it tippytoes through an afrocentric funk /disco groove that will keep your dancefloor alight. on the flipside the joe bisso produced funk gem *rhythm on rhythm* from sookie gets an edit from label boss nik weston who trims, tucks and replays the funkier elements of the track with repeated breaks and lashings of brass stabs and wobbly bass lines.

guynamite is non other than guy benton the multi-talented songwriter, composer, arranger, producer and musician. after being introduced to the likes of patrice rushen and the golden era of boogie circa 1982, guynamite started work on a boogie inspired ep. the ep title >born in 82< is a reference to the start date of the timeless music guynamite has been influenced by for this ep and the nostalgia he feels for the year of his birth.on this, his third ep, guynamite features the incredible vocals of shea soul who has become well known for her work with phil asher, mj cole and mark de clive lowe. shea cites >set free< as one of her best tracks yet! the ep also features the debut vocals of 21 year old london vocalist dee whose ability to deliver stunning vocals effortlessly makes >take my dreams< a soulful spine-tingler. dee is definitely one to watch for the future.the instrumentals patrice, a tribute to patrice rushen, and space elevator, a 125 bpm euphoric boogie rush complete the ep to show off guynamites talent for original, sample free production.
