im dorf tomari auf der hauptinsel der präfektur kagoshima stieß shotaro aoyama auf ein volkslied, das von den dorfbewohnern während eines bon-tanzes gesungen wurde.

da die sänger verschwunden waren, waren die kassetten, die die inselbewohner besaßen, die einzige tonquelle, und die musik wurde auf der grundlage dieser kassetten produziert.

die von the north face japan unterstützte ep wurde im winter im unesco-welterbe shiretoko-nationalpark gefilmt und aufgenommen, wo im tiefsten winter treibeis auftaucht. durch die verschmelzung der sich wandelnden natur in shiretoko mit dem systematischen raster des städtischen lebens veranschaulicht die ep das nebeneinander von nostalgie und moderne in der japanischen musik und drückt die eigene erfahrung des seins in der natur von shiretoko als musik aus.

while quite a few people are obviously still dwelling in the achievements of munich’s disco era during the 1980s, it seems that another major part of the cities partying scene travels to the same clubs every weekend. here they are getting fed with the plasticized tech house trax that everybody wants, drinking vodka red bull until they almost pass out and walk - if they are still able to - home happily, oversaturated by non-inventive, but good selling music. so far the cliché. fortunately, reality looks a bit different, at least for the lovers of uk bass. in order to make people aware of the city’s flourishing developments in this scene, the grandmasters of ruffhouse and jahmoni records have teamed up for a limited 10”.

the fifth entry in the chronicles of slyngshot s yappin label is a four track ep, projecting his trademark hybrid style, popping on a low-bit train ride somewhere between the bronx and detroit. new era: slyng s in-house style, dirty percussion, with ailing watery rhodes. of xtc (action mix): a swift take-off, with fazed out keys over a romping kick, swashbuckling high-hat, and an insistent synth bass playing hide and seek, building the tension. of xtc (understatement mix): low end synth lines bop between singing drums, tribal chant and ethereal piano loop. stop playin part i: b-boy vocal sample with pitched up / back down again beats lending the tune a subtle drum and bass feel.
