spatial cues is a series of split singles sounding out main(void)s and kon jansons shared musical space. operating out of berlin and london, the two artists join forces to showcase their mutual vision of techno music. cues004 accelerates the series to 133 bpm and ramps up intensity with thumping kick drums and uncompromising arrangements that revolve around ceaseless chord stabs. with its hypnotizing chord pattern drifting in and out of arced echoes and subtle shifts in timbre, cues004 as haunting atmosphere radiates a surreal sense of weightless pressure, paradoxically soothing and violent at the same time. based on a divergent theme that contrasts upfront chord stabs and ruthless 909 cymbals with easeful pads and finespun textures, cues004 b builds up to a transition that disrupts the deeper elements with a stripped-down pattern, fully carving out the track’s inherent grittiness.

for this release metrist delves into a set of carefully constructed and deeply rhythmic but ear-grabbingly idiosyncratic, mixed fidelity dancefloor-geared oddities. the first three tracks are united, in a fashion, by the artist’s skill at programming a series of drum tracks that set a definite tone for the productions. within a quite partisan field of often microscopic generic variety, largely pinned down to the tempo and timbre of electronic drums, here metrist has pursued a tricky-to-define path. the bounce of new jack swing is twisted amongst stripped back polyrhythms, equal parts groove and glitch seasoned by some futuristic acid filters that create a constantly shifting aura of space and textural nuance around the individual drum hits. quite often arrhythmic interjections punctuate these ‘grooves’, be it the sawing bursts of noise and snarled, incoherent vocals on ‘an soaep’, the non-language and playful, bubbling bass surrounding the half time feel of ‘on golden seize’ that builds to something approximating an industrial take on uk funky or the brash sub-wobbles that intrude ‘pantomimer tongue’s juddering knife-scraping-on-a-balloon stutters. ‘caaacel the horze’ closes the record in a less weighty style, with crunchy arpeggios running on a synth that sounds like it’s picking up interference from a radio channel, as snatches of moaned vocals allude to a deeply ambiguous yet chilling narrative behind the music. thudding kicks intrude on the skittish melody but in a non-rhythmic way reminiscent of someone trying desperately to snatch your attention by banging on the adjacent wall. gauzy melodic textures in the background provide a calming counterpoint to the uneasy qualities of the composition

after seemingly coming out of nowhere, your old droog set the internet aflame in 2014 with his self-titled debut ep, catching the attention of bloggers all over the web from new york magazine’s vulture to nahright. before long, conspiracy theories started and people began to posit that droog was another older, legendary new york rapper in disguise. profiled in the new yorker, droog (meaning “friend” in russian) set the record straight about who he was: a twenty-something ukrainian immigrant who fell in love with hip-hop when he arrived in south brooklyn as a small child. the timbre of his voice resembled that of a hip-hop legend but droog’s content had more to it than street dreams or observations from a project window. his music reflected his own unique life experience as he referenced everything from sports, to crime, to seinfeld and c-span in his rhymes. he was an intelligent hoodlum with a stand-up comedian’s sense of humor—unafraid to be as self-deprecating as he was self-aggrandizing.

alexis tyrel’s man in the sky introduces itself as a no-nonsense kick and riff driven track. although simple in nature, it is a bold and distinct. the track zeros in on the very memorable riff and the different adaptations of it that play throughout. changes in key, timbre and depth give this piece an eerie vibe in places and a funky vibe in others.

in ancient greek mythology, olympos was the living place of the twelve olympian gods and has inspired our limited series record label under the same name. olympos, will release a series of eps , with the figure of an olympian god, from various artists which will remain unannounced until the project is complete. kicking off the series is hephaestus, the god of fire and metal. dounai and lavein is an ancient greek phrase meaning give and take. a-side features lavein which is a broken beat, glitched up number, with a rather metallic timbre. resonances, filters, drums and arpeggiators arranged and programmed in style, resulting in a modern electronic piece with plenty of quirky, edgy vibes. on the flip side dounai is a melodious, esoteric and slow moving late night /after-hours affair, which expands slowly and steadily over a beautiful chord progression of lush strings and sparkling pads. a steady punctuated beat rolls smoothly throughout the track, completing this ep in a misty, hypnotizing and charming fashion. one copy per customer .

as half of teengirl fantasy, logan takahashi is best known for making glassy, expansive tracks. on his debut solo album nogeo, however, he creates an intimate world of fertile, furtive rhythms. throughout the album, techno-tinged patterns unfurl with zeal and digital melodies slowly rise and fall. if the music of teengirl evokes widescreen, technicolor club scenes, nogeo is a zoomed-in study of timbre, rhythm, and melody.

embracing disco, techno and house music in all its declinations, what ever not introduces now british artist reformed society, project started by house producer harsh puri as a consequence of djing and collecting records since 1998, debuting with a four track old school house ep, optimistic chaos coherently fitting with the italian imprint philosophy. ‘hope’ has that solar, yet dusty groove folding distorted rhythmics and joyful pads around an insistent lead dubby pattern and shimmering synths. ‘optimistic chaos’ is again smooth but lightly gloomy, until a pause intoxicates one’s body and mind filling them with inebriating ambients. ‘incognito’ delivers a deep driving atmosphere here, featuring dogged, crisp drums together with minimalist, yet momentary cosmic motives. for the closing cut ‘detracid’, the artist cooks up a brew of acid lines with the usual charming synths and vivid hats, building a light sense of tension fired up by the warm, heady sound scapes. each track is similar to the last, stiffening the musical timbre of the label, confirming the producer’s strong artistic identity as a consequence.

2016 repress , with this ep reilg makes his debut on his own label, lofile. much more subdued than the first ep, lfr 002s a-side appears almost minimalistic, touched with melancholy - going into a deeper state of mind with its bright, clear and distinct accents - like the first rays of dawn, breaking through its background. its like a dark bokeh, rough and raw, clearly influenced by deep techno tracks.its sounds create a mood close to labels like dial and giegling, geared to the morning hours.the b-side remixes by edward and tilman tausendfreund become much more peak time fitting.edwards soulitude remix with a touch of electro strikes with deep and iridescent gravitational attraction.the derailed remix by tilman tausendfreund tops it off,with its acid bassline and house inspired sound. light and bright like a summer breeze, its impossible to not be touched and drawn towards its timbre.

where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

chmara is an artist better known for the duet chmara winter, which created a number of releases for pets recordings. currently he is producing by himself and joining forces with otake records. *spring* has its unique position in the catalog of young label from warsaw. the vinyl is original, surprising, flourishing and simply beautiful. some herberts or dj koze inspirations can be felt, however, a solid character of these tracks gives a clear understanding that chmara has his unrepeatable unique style that can not be faked. lyrics, wonderful chmaras timbre plus accompanying female vocals give an image of surreal order. it is a beautiful, harmonious hallucination caused by nothing but music. the record also contains two remixes from slg and piotr bejnar - the owner of otake records.

anders enges interest in modular synthesizers comes from a desire to shut down conscious decisions about form and to focus on rhythm and timbre. this does however not land in traditional techno but rather in a riff-oriented style, the riff being both rhythm and melody and also a morphing entity in the music. drums and percussion attempt to follow this entity, while maintaining a link to the dance music pulse. the resulting style makes for a hybrid timewarped experience of travelling a parallell electronic music reality, a brooding technoid that grooves

sleeparchive starts off on the a side, creating industrious textures with *fifth station* followed by two (endless) loops that lead to the a2 *white angel breadline*, a mesmerizing track with the classic sleeparchives timbre and brightness.

kiwanuka, a 25 year-old uk native of ugandan heritage, was raised in north london where he split his time between session work and local gigs. along the way, having found footing as a solo artist, he was signed to communion records, then polydor, and has since performed throughout europe and north america too touring in direct support of adele. he made his way through nashville this past summer with just enough pause and aplomb to commit these morsels to tape. the a-side *you ve got nothing to lose* is an original composition, featuring the buzzards dominic davis on upright bass and cory younts on piano, joined also by fellow balladeer lillie mae rische on fiddle. their contributions transform his work into a stone-cold groove with almost orchestral underpinnings, making it a fitting extension of their previous blue series. the single also features a chilling rendition of townes van zandts infamous *waitin round to die* on the b-side, the perfect compliment to the timbre and mood of the a-side.

mr raoul k finally got one of his personal ‘heroes to do a remix on one of his tracks. joe claussel takes ‘ayoka (taken from ‘neo-evolution 02?) to a whole new level. he adds a lot of jazz-tingend sounds (especially percussion) and athmosphere but manages to keep the overall african timbre of the original.

alftavatn is thomallas second ep release on berlin-based techno-label krakatau records. the tracks captivate instantly and still surprise with imaginative variety, sudden shifts and dazzling timbre. 23 year-old thomalla was featured as a co-musician on bodi bills european ›what‹-tour in 2011/12 and recently started playing live-shows on his own. his tracks unite artistic and dancefloor-compatible appeal, which he was also able to show during last years visit of the red bull music academy in madrid. the alftavatn ep articulates his forward-looking interpretation of electronic music, embedded in references of his own eclectic education. techno without thought control
