d’marc cantu’s second release on drone is an introspective, emotive piece of electro. with it’s deep pads, ‘omega red’ provides the soundtrack to a trek through the snowy wastes, never letting up and calling through the night. dreaming of a world beyond our own on a journey without end, waking to find fragments of that world still holding on.

homage returns for their fourth release with the debut ep from irish playboy kettama. the galway native is quickly becoming irelands most exciting electronic music name, known for his hard-hitting tracks laced with old school samples and classic rave sounds. the eps highly anticipated single, body, is making waves online thanks to mall grab givin it the heavy rinse cycle, most recently to a huge crowd at lost & found festival during a b2b with mella dee and denis sulta. the eps b-side is equally as big, housing two absolute peak-hour rave weapons. kettamas bucklyn bridge ep is one hell of a debut, and what better home for it than homage, the new york city label voted most likely to sustain themselves on bodega sandwiches.

next up on francis harris exceptional imprint scissor & thread comes a collaboration with american producer, dj aakmael. aakmael has built a reputation for some of the deepest, rawest house music sounds coming out of the states, releasing well-received tracks on the likes of freerange records, release sustain, kolour dogmatik and ndatl. returning to scissor & thread, aakmael and label boss harris cook up an intoxicating vibe across this 5 track ep. each shares a track and work together on the fifth, while also remixing each others solo cuts. first up aakmaels deep muzik- a quintessential nod to its self-proclaimed mission statement. skittering drums, a shuffling groove, deep keys, and chords make up this essential opener. franks (aka francis harris) all that light mix shows another side, finding pockets of space and developing the fizzing percussion to produce an equally affecting piece of dancefloor bliss. sharing production duties from the outset on mercy of means, the guys slip into an easy mid-tempo groove with plenty of depth - the rhythm rolls along and offers the perfect basis for some sublime melodic touches. franks part song also hones in on the subtle deep grooves. bumping, slightly filtered and saturated drums provide the main body, with beautiful washes and keys finding their way through, aakmaels remix beefs up the groove somewhat, making the snares snap harder and kick hit a little stronger, but the essence of the tracks melodic atmosphere remains perfectly in place.

vor mehr als einer dekade erschien das großartige debütalbum -attack decay sustain release- des englischen duos simian mobile disco auf wichita recordings. für ihr fünftes album mit dem titel -murmurations- haben sich die beiden das schwarmverhalten (auf englisch -murmurations-) von vögeln als vorlage genommen und zusammen mit den sängerinnen des londoner deep throat choir (bella union) ein besonderes klangkonzept entwickelt. nahezu unheimliche soundstrukturen steigen aus einem meer an stimmern empor und bilden ungewöhnliche wie komplexe akkorde und harmonien. das bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass das album avantgardistisch oder schwierig ist. vielmehr vermischen sich die stimmexperimente perfekt mit den bekannten techno/dancefloor-beats des duos.

fur coat launch new label oddity which aims to showcase a darker, more tripped out techno sound. the first release kicks off with their genesis ep, which features two original tracks and a remix by scottish techno veterans slam. the venezuelan duo of sergio munoz and israel sunshine have released on labels like watergate, crosstown rebels, bpitch control and balance. the genesis eps artwork comes courtesy of barcelona based, colombian born artists lina bassiouny and maria paula quiva.

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

daydream 01 is the debut release of the daydream imprint – a brand new label based in france and focused on forceful groovy house exclusively on wax. the imprint seeks to offer an intelligent and efficient vision of house music in order to provide perfect dj cuts. this first ep delivers 4 original tracks produced by talents from france and germany. mjog launches the various with “be forgotten”, a beautiful journey balanced between deep synths and solid drums. then, with “eleven”, porter presents a raw and dynamic cut where harsh sounds and hypnotic pads play together on a sustain rhythm. on the flip, “future” from walker is all about dubby sounds, loud kick and deep bass, a very immersive homemade tune. finally, mjog closes this first chapter with “peace is at hand”, a classy and strong house cut designed for dance.

after releasing their own debut record in 2014 the hamburg based group sky walking formed by peter kersten, christian naujoks and richard von der schulenburg now celebrates the launch of their self-titled label. by bringing together an international line-up of artists mostly associated with the new and experimental music scenes in cities like hamburg, berlin and new york sky walking not only establishes a link between different locations and their specific (local) scenes – with the golden pudel club in hamburg somehow functioning as a bermuda triangle – but also between different generations of artists from these scenes.
