for “a real labour of love” the band have again chosen a mix of well-known and less well-known reggae songs to cover in true ub40 style. tracks featured barrington levy’s “here i come”, ken boothe’s “moving away”, gregory isaac’s “hush darling”, culture’s “international herb” and beres hammond’s “she loves me”. cover art includes a bespoke painting by the respected american painter mark t smith. he has incorporated elements from the tracks to create art unique to the band.
the coloured double vinyl (1x orange, 1x purple) is housed in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

common labour celebrates a milestone anniversary with their biggest release to date - odd jobs vol. 3 pays homage to its hand-stamped, sticker-sealed history calling in house and techno favours from the likes of nachtbraker, thomas wood, sames and potholes to celebrate over five years in the game. vinyl only as per usual, limited to 241 numbered copies worldwide.

the second release on homage comes from chevals, and once again the vibe is quintessential deep house infused with more than a little soul stew. -see you when i git my heart broken- has funk licks aplenty to keep the party popping, while -please don t- sees that as some kind of challenge to up the ante with even more sassy samples and sizzling strings. -tres racas- finds the chevals getting a little more choppy in the drum department, and then -big man- finishes the ep off with a raucous african atmosphere to set the club alight.

derrick carters seminal sound patrol album originally released in 1994, * sweetened - no lemon*, will see a re-release in january 2016. the alias provided a place for carter to explore deeper and sometimes more atmospheric styles. the sound patrol record originally came out via chicagos organico label, while derrick carters own arts & labour is handling the reissue. the triple vinyl re issue adds four new unreleased tracks. the whole album has been re mastered for 2016. this follows a limited edition sampler 12 inch released in 2015 which contained another 2 unreleased tracks.

ltd 2016 repress !! helsinki based common labour gives birth to its second offering on this limited vinyl only release. continuing in the same vein of quality twisted deep house, potholes unravels the mahla ep. the title track mahla gets the juices flowing with a hypnotic deep house groover. serenades head honcho roberto rodriguez takes the remix reins and works mahla into a more percussive and refined interpretation. its an honour having him on the common labour imprint. on the flip side, gambler sleazes off into b-grade italo disco spaghetti western territory. a possible soundtrack to a horror flick with kenny rogers stumbling into a truckers rest area after a messy night out. rounding off the ep, spoekhus picks up the pace and mood giving the handbag circle some ammo to shuffle their stilettos too. cementing another polished offering from this artisan label.

still hope is their second single and the follow up to motorway jam (their double a side with palms trax from late last year) which sees them collaborate with anthony anaxagorou, a british born cypriot award winning poet and essayist, whose poetry and fiction have appeared on bbc newsnight, bbc4, itv and vice. hearing his lyrics via their good friend simbad, secretsundaze connected with anthony and still hope is the fruit of their labour. the original is a potent and political spoken word piece delivered over a rolling house groove. definitely one for the deeper moments with its late night heady feel and full vocal not letting up. the poems in the heart floor version strips the vocal back and adds dramatic strings for a more direct dance floor approach. ex slum village detroit producer waajeed released a couple of killer eps in 2017 on his own dirt tech reck imprint so we had to get him aboard for the remix. his detroit hardcore dub does what is says on the tin and is a peak time slammer while his searching dub goes down a jazzier, spacey route with live sounding drums and dreamy pads.
