in its original form, holy ghost!s debut album cut >hold my breath< is, pure and simple, great dancefloor electronic pop, in the hands of shadowy duo tiger & woods, the song has been totally reshaped and refracted through 80s r&b radio. they have slowed the pace and inserted synth-funk hot flashes that recall prince – and, no kidding, the time, and jimmy jam & terry lewis – to create a mood that fits comfortably (and pleasurably) within their future boogie m.o. cosmic kids ron poznansky and dan terndrup have taken the track in a more tensely dramatic direction. it might be the vaguely darkened synthline upon which much of that track sits that lends itself to its more intense feel here, and gives it such a pleasant nocturnal feel. finally, theres falty dls re-envisioning, which goes down awfully smooth for a track so full of the big, thick, bumping bass beats. it’s an aural pleasure to find yourself dreamily lost in the brooklyn, new york producer/djs halls of reverberating sound.

(dfa), with this great version of crystal fighters xtatic truth, put everyone in agreement - on their knees. la based classixx deliver a production thats evocative of a corvette in the sun, carefree, before it all gets dangerously heated up. quite convenient too when youre fifteen (at least spiritually) to french kiss for a whole five minutes. finally half of digitalism, der die das, brings the track to the dancefloor with an uplifted and breathtaking version.

panthers used to play aggressive post hardcore before their style morphed into a somewhat sober version of anthemic stoner rock. they released albums on both troubleman and vice records. goblin city is the lead track from their second record, the trick. holy ghost! requested to work on goblin city. they then delivered one of the most relentlessly snappy disco dubs in quite some time. panthers also asked run roc to do a mix of the song and he came up with an excellent old school acid house version. this single is a true dfa family affair, bringing together good friends, musicians, and creative allies from the past and for the future. family reunions are not supposed to be this much fun.
