for the fourth installation on boogie box records, appleblim links up with the middle east crew to deliver one of two eps planned for 2018. first up. two original tracks by the bristolian artist, vurstep and dream wisdom. signature appleblim crossover sound, floating between bass, d&b, electronica and house influences, with early carl craig/psyche/bfc and 4 hero watching over. on the b side, vurstep gets a rework by shed and forest drive west. always on point, shed does what he does best. a grooving old school flavored bass and breakbeats remix. followed by forest drive west s stripped down, mind humping, feet tapping basement flavor.

more than ten years since he first emerged on skull disco, appleblim presents his debut album. the label he co-founded with shackleton was the first the world heard of his productions, but laurie osborne’s innate relationship with electronic music culture reaches back much further than those groundbreaking early days of dubstep. early days spent soaking up hardcore, jungle, techno and plenty more besides were fundamental foundations from which to spring into the then-unknown realms of sub-low half-step club music. at that time fwd>> and dmz were the church for this ritualistic sound, and appleblim was a regular fixture at both.

22 digit ltd is the vinyl only off shot of uk based 22 digit records, and this new release is upfront house music in the style of artists like mr. g. this 22 digit ltd release is a collaboration between uk stalwart moodymanc and label boss william welt with solo remixes from appleblim and alland byallo. moodymanc also known to many as dubble d, is a manchester based artist who boasts seminal releases on labels including tsuba, local talk and 20/20 vision among many others of a similar calibre. william welt is a young artist who now based in manchester, cut his teeth in newcastle upon tyne, and has releases on labels including traum and construct. the first of the remixes comes from appleblim, whose bass heavy sound has been a regular feature of imprints inclouding r&s records, aus music, tempa and skull disco. second of the remixes comes from alland byallo, who has previously released on labels including third ear, get physical, poker flat, moodmusic, dirt crew and rawax.

the dynamic duo of second storey and appleblim return to r&s for another slice of their off kilter dance floor alchemy second storey & appleblim bring their detroit machine rhythms and sleek electronic grooves back to r&s for the ‘gimme 6’ ep. since their initial forays in 2015 on the label in the form of a trio of eps and a compilation that introduced the world to their unique strain of cyborg funk, the duo have gone on to refine their sound to ever new creative heights. this new ep is the fruit of that hard work - opener, and title track ‘gimme 6’ sees their production grandiosity hit new highs - swooping pads soon give way to slurping twisted bass and mechanistic hi hats before a collapsing breakdown freakout twists the trad techno blueprint into exciting new shapes. ‘levying rooks’ injects a sense of frenetic levity - serrated bass and scudding percussion, while ‘aperture‘ is drenched in swooning pads and fizzing, flanged out hats underpinned by relentless mutant kicks. too often modern electronic club music is all too content to sit heavily within genre boundaries, and ‘rules - ss&a’s gleeful disregard for categorisation and innate sense of melody, harmony and rhythm make their offerings the perfect antidote to the jaded veteran techno fans as well as the gleeful new jacks

before package holidays and the rush to benidorm, beatniks ruled the seafronts and b&b’s of the southern beach resorts. beat poets and musicians pedalled alternative viewpoints & delivered fresh melodies to these waterfronts of escapism.
marking another step forward in his sonic evolution, appleblim inaugurates beatnik boulevard with a record that channels his roots in brooding bassweight club music into startling modern compositions. from his groundbreaking work on skull disco to various mutations of house, techno and electro explored via solo and collaborative releases for r&s, aus music and tempa , this 12” finds the berlin-based producer wielding fresh approaches to synthesis in a daring framework that finds physicality in music away from obvious rhythmic tropes.

appleblim’s third 12&#8243,,, for tempa touches on the sonic territories explored on his first 12&#8243,,, (the experimental and amorphus ‘wandered’ from tempa101) while expanding on those ideas. the first track ‘minus degree’ is appleblim at his most experimental. a beatless affair of sparse soundscapes and atmospheres. full of tension, and crucially no release, you are swept away by the waves of synths and sub bass. next track ‘move them’ is more traditional appleblim - 4x4 and dub techno chords build a sense of momentum over the space of 7 minutes. a traditionally leaning techno tune with a uk twist, appleblim’s use of space and tension will keep any raver entranced. final track ‘twist it down’ rounds out the ep with a subtle roller. broken drum patterns and bright synths help in stripping away some of the darker undertones prevalent in the previous tracks.

schmorgasbord records continues to examine the creative results of collaborative experimentation within contemporary electronic music, following releases from appleblim & october, spatial & s-max, al tourettes & paradroid and bass clef & frak.

london s dext recordings continue to strengthen their catalogue adding to originals and remixes from dubspeeka & visionz, komon & appleblim and bodyjack with their latest offering from the manchester based oli furness backed up by clone mainstay alden tyrell. this, the third release up on dext carries the same raw brawn as its predecessors and is a rattling meld of jungle, uk techno and house.

it has been over a year since the last schmorgasbord release dropped, which saw al tourettes (better known now as second storey) rubbing up against paradroid in a mix up of electro, techno and electronica styles. now the label returns with bass clef and frak, who were asked to each commit a half-finished sketch of a track to tape, exchange tapes and finish off each others tracks. bass clef has been a strong solo force on the electronic music scene since he first emerged in the wider bass music field in 2006, and has since released on idle hands, punch drunk, pan and public information as well as running his own magic + dreams imprint. swedish trio frak have been releasing since their debut album in 1987 when they were thirteen years old. the swedish trio have been active for most of that time, running borft records and releasing a huge amount of music as well as performing live. in recent years they have enjoyed more recognition with releases on kontra musik, digitalis and sex tags mania. schmorgasbord launched in 2011 with a release that saw appleblim and october collaborating for the first time. it was followed up by a release from s-max and spatial.
