an all-time rave classic gets the gerd janson re-loving as he works his magic on the 1992 anthem dont go. 26 years on from it s first release, gerd takes the tempo down a notch laying out that all too familiar drum break, instantly recognisable piano line and julie mcdermott s timeless vocals. his subtle touches and added weight, behind a pounding kick, are sure to set any dancefloor alight. about as euphoric as they get - if this doesn t do the business then god help us all. on the b side, belfast s ejeca flips don t go into a heavy-hitting, rave tinged, techno bomb. his inventive sampling turns the synth stabs and vocals on their heads, making them almost indistinguishable, but no less impactful, from the original. it s over four and a half minutes till the iconic chord progression is heard in it s initial form, before ejeca throws it back into a rapid fire, industrial thumper. lastly, gerd serves up a vip dub mix echoing claps and synth lines into the stratosphere, whilst leaving the vocals at bay, save a short cry of don t go from julie towards the end of the track, allowing those anthemic elements to do the talking. a modern touch on an all-time classic from gerd with a complete reinterpretation from ejeca, this is a heavyweight release and one thats already being played by the biggest and the best out there.

after making a promising start with their first installment, disco pocho return with a second round of expertly selected, sliced and segued groovers from the parties of yesteryear. javi frias is the cat on the buttons this time around, taking two loose and limber disco funk burners and giving them just the right subtle touch to set the place alight. its a shame has an easy tempo, but there s more than enough heat embedded in the looped up slices frias gets busy with it s a dense, rugged and rock-tinged sound that should please brass construction fans. on the flip, you got what i need turns things up with a powerful, diva-led gem that s heavy on the one, just like it should be.

wah wah 45s will release orange whip, the new album by their latest signing, honeyfeet. the outfit, who have received praise from the likes of the guardian, have also set festivals alight up and down the country with their unique melange of sounds. for the last couple of years the honeyfeet (who name from a line in the blues brothers film) have been a conduit for the ideas and expressions of an exotic mixture of manchester based musicians. this genre-defying band incorporate styles including jazz, folk and hip hop into their music. someone once called it folk-hop and barrelhouse-pop, and that’s just vague enough to make sense.

the second release on homage comes from chevals, and once again the vibe is quintessential deep house infused with more than a little soul stew. -see you when i git my heart broken- has funk licks aplenty to keep the party popping, while -please don t- sees that as some kind of challenge to up the ante with even more sassy samples and sizzling strings. -tres racas- finds the chevals getting a little more choppy in the drum department, and then -big man- finishes the ep off with a raucous african atmosphere to set the club alight.

finally the long-awaited second series of invisible family outings has arrived.label boss and compiler gk machine has this to say beyond ecstatic to get these tracks out. the gazeebo track i ve been playing in my sets for years. digital only but so great it definitely needed to get pressed onto wax! i would dj with it using ableton and speed it up a lot so for the vinyl i asked jon (nedza) who ive been a huge fan of since his community recordings releases on grayhound and imperial dub, whether he could speed it up a little bit before we pressed it up. now its 100% perfect: a moroder-esque cosmic stomper thats sure to set any dancefloor alight. the apiento track is another one that s been gestating for a long time first appearing around the time the original e.s.p. 12inch appeared on the wonderful golf channel recordings in 2014. secret circuit gave it a complete overhaul, in fact several complete overhauls, plus some of his signature guitar and has turned the already blissful track into an afro-esque, trippy, beautiful, beautiful piece of music that (imo) is one of his best yet. utterly gorgeous! then there s the boy-girl retro-future duo der kundalini coming from the wonderful lectric sands stable in ny who gave us zoovox. this one s also been hiding on my hard drive way too long! finally relative newcomers konzel (of junto club/optimo music fame) & natural sugars (pardon my french) round off the package just perfectly. the former so distinct that i felt it was a perfect opener for the a side. so, i hope you dig it and keep an eye out for the super limited 12-track cassette too! limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

this autumn, wah wah 45s are very proud to present their latest signing, an outfit who ve garnered huge praise from jools holland, are darlings of the guardian s music reviews pages, and have set festivals alight up and down the country with their unique melange of sounds. for a good few years, honeyfeet has been a conduit for the ideas and expressions of an exotic mixture of manchester based musicians. jazz? yes, some of that! folk? stick that in there! hip-hop? i thought you d never ask! someone once called it folk-hop and barrelhouse-pop, and that s just vague enough to make sense. it helps that they are fronted by ríoghnach connolly, real world s newest signing and -a remarkable singer and flautist who can ease from irish traditional influences to soul- (the guardian). this extraordinary band s debut single for wah wah 45s, sinner, was originally affectionately known as boingy squelch, after the unconventional sounds trombonist biff roxby used in his early demos. ríoghnach conveys the story of a woman who never intends on staying at home -chained to the sink- - -i may be a sinner, but i m not a slave-. in that way, the song is a rejection of outdated, traditional roles. since their previous album, 2013 s it s a good job i love you, keyboardist john ellis jumped on board as full-time member, bringing his unique musical presence. this enabled the development of a more texturally adventurous style, as witnessed with the dual atonal solo between himself and guitarist ellis davies on sinner. similarly, for their next lp, orange whip, engineer, bassist and spiritual guide lorien edwards makes his honeyfeet recording debut, so completing the -kitchen- of this very special band. sinner is released on limited 7- vinyl (100 copies only!) on october 20th and comes complete with a woozy, low slung club-friendly mix from former innocent sorcerer, polish dj and producer envee. the album, orange whip, will be released on wah wah 45s in the summer of 2018.

kalita records release their first in a series of coveted reissues, starting with the three choice cuts from nst cophie s 1980 private press ivory coast afro-disco album mon da center. after moving to paris in 1976 and having played with other well-known bands such as n bamina, osibisa, and with numerous artists including jimmy hyacinthe and papa wemba, mon da center was ernest s first solo album. recorded at studio caroline in paris s 20th sector over the space of one week, this self-funded ultra-rare album regularly exchanges hands for eye-watering prices. pretty much unknown except to the most hardened of diggers, bian kou , e clolo and mioukouna are guaranteed to set any dance floor alight, with hypnotic afro-disco grooves, killer drums and angelic female vocals.

an-2 and samos have turned the clock back to finish off a couple of sessions theyd recorded together years back. maxim samos is our keen friend and sophisticated guitar player from minsk, belarus that we know for years. his first appearance on theomatic was back in 2008 with space-rock tune alpha storm, which received lots of positive feedback and found its way to the prins thomas live at robert johnson compilation. as well as guitars, maxim can play almost any string instrument and, on one of his erstwhile trips to istanbul, he dropped by a music store, picked up a saz and immediately set it alight, blowing away the entire staff. after scoring a big discount, he came out, clutching it in his hands. an-2 commented on samos playing on the saz during one of his first visits to minsk, and immediately suggested cutting a track together something that took 10 years, but the wait’s been worth it. what weve got is surreal halal-acid-folk-disco affair, perfect for whirling dervishes or dancing the dhikr. the storys continued on the b-side, where were treated to a tale of trips in a gti, before finishing with a nordic saga about cold fronts coming at us from behind the polar circle.
