london’s ghost writerz are back with a banger! following a slew of releases on tru thoughts and a recent mixtape -welcome to ghost town- heating up the streets, jimmy screech and sleepy time ghost return with a big splash on nice up! records. based around a familiar reggae riddim, the track tells the tale of jimmy’s foundation in soundsystem culture, starting in the 80s and name-checking legends such as shabba ranks, yellowman, smiley culture along the way. as the riddim flips we shift forward a generation, 90s dancehall and rap dominate, giving props to hip hop royalty such as busta rhymes and 2pac, then finally firing off a huge jungle climax, dripping in enough amen breaks to set the dancefloor alight whilst giving a little history of the musical heritage behind ghost writerz.

another dancefloor essential from the nice up! crew - this time hooking up with iconic reggae label maximum sounds, who this year celebrate 20 years in the business. having worked with pretty much every big name in dancehall and reggae, label owner and producer frenchie entrusted nice up! head honcho shep to delve into the vaults to rework some classics for this jungle soundclash ep. first up, belgiums turntable dubbers take on the mighty bounty killer and lukie d, creating a monstrous drum & bass anthem that will slay any soundsystem. then it is portugals ricky tuffs turn to ramp up a selection of vocalists including mr vegas, burro bantan, carl meeks & fuzzy jones on the sound exterminata riddim - total soundboy destruction! both tracks are tried and tested by names such as serial killaz, benny page, david rodigan and more.

initially released back in 2004, >information critic< is a bumping rocksteady / hip hop track from leeds mc black samurai, featuring vocals by uk dancehall legends the ragga twins and daddy freddy. despite picking up radio plays at the time, it found its way into only a handful of selectors boxes, one of whom was nice up founder dj shepdog, who has re-licensed the track and commissioned new remixes for 2011. first up, everyones favourite badman benny page gives it a junglist relick, upping the tempo and dropping some classic dancehall vibes. next, fellow nice up cohort j-star delivers a moombahton-style rework, showing a new direction for this in-demand producer. finally ninja tune rockers the heavy - currently hitting it big in the usa with >how you like me now< - drop a head-nodding reggae / hip hop version to round this wax remix package off nicely.

after a summer of smashing festivals, boat parties and the occasional pint glass, the nice up! crew return with 2 brand new blends for your box. once again label boss shepdog works his magic on the mixing desk with a red hot version of a very current tighrope-walking us soul star in waiting. working it around the joyride riddim (best known for lady saws >sycamore tree< or wayne wonders >bashment girl<), this is another essential addition to any version excursion and the first mash-up we know of on this riddim. over on the flip, another us songstress gets a loved up rework on the classic truth & rights riddim, breaking hearts and melting dancefloors in the process. one for de gyal dem!

possibly one of the biggest tunes to step out of the nice up! camp - from new signing and dubstep star in waiting adam prescott. having received serious rotation from mistajam and ras kwame on the radio, as well as heavy support from the likes of skream, hatcha, n-type and jakes, the label wasted no time in snapping up >on a dubstep tip<, an inspired reworking of sl2s rave anthem. featuring dynamite mc reliving his rave-hood on the mic alongside jah screechy who penned the original sample source >walk & skank<, this is sure to blow the roof at any dance.
on the b-side, adam shows off his knowledge and love of reggae with updated reworks of classics from some of the most timeless voices in the genre.

making his debut release on nice up! is east london dub master, remixer of choice for roots manuva and erstwhile tour dj for hard fi, wrongtom. having given some of the uks biggest stars the dubwise treatment, here he turns his hands to a couple of under-the-counter remixes.

blowing the doors off the dancehall once again! first up, mia gets a right roughing up alongside londons finest party starters the nextmen, with the huge paper planes riding the blood and fire riddim, on the flip, the witness riddim gets versioned with the rarer than rare acapella of craig macks flava in ya ear featuring classic guest verses from biggie smalls, rampage the last boy scout and busta rhymes. thankfully they had the good grace to edit out ll cool js verse. blowticious!
