this new strand release on lowriders, maleza is a very personal take on bass music, juke, west coast hiphop, jamaican music, prepared pianos, old detuned synths, odd time signatures and huge live reverbs. the idea of the record came when i was going through a lot of personal struggle and i was not able to get out of it. in the same period i decided to run in the woods near my home early in the morning. i ran every day, and ran and ran. eventually i got out of my problems. so i left the maleza away. this is a very personal record, each sound has a deep meaning about me and my loved ones. maleza means bad herbs, weeds, undergrowth in spanish.

of banks and gangsters - that basically sums up recent spanish history and also the new strand ep called *bankstaz paradise*. accompanied by the banksters and the financial horns, strand also has shuane singing on one of the songs and there is a remix by om unit which is seriously awesome. in addition to fact magazine, it has already been featured on dazed & confused, dj mag, earmilk, playground and dj shadow has said that it rules.

the dutch lowriders collective present a mini album by spanish producer slam funk!. this record is strands maiden voyage into funk sounds from the 70s and 80s with an unconservative spirit. slam funk! is not a look back to the past but a vision of what today and the future could be like. mixing up old school funk vibes and instruments with modern sounds and vocoders. 8 tracks drenched in that computer funk we know of the lowriders.
