why stop when youve got a good thing going? that was our reasoning, at least, behind gp286v, a special vinyl release inspired by the crazy goodness that was roach motels, the night ep. released alongside a handful of great remixes by the likes of tuff city kids, fred everything and felix da housecat, this vinyl edition of the night has put their old-school-leaning 7 minutes of popping rhythm heaven on wax for all the black gold enthusiasts to enjoy.
the hot new black booby release for 2014 is a homage to none other than the mighty roach motel (terry farley & pete heller). the 4 tracker completely rips apart the pairs discography and reblends and knits dozens of parts back together to give something new, fresh and above all house.
alex and bill met 16 years ago when bill signed one of alex s first productions (is this the rhythm? by rhythmnvibe) to a new york label he was running. alex, whose father lives in the us, was a regular visitor to the states and they sent many happy hours together hanging out at the sound factory bar and comparing maw dubs. when bill returned to the uk in 1996, they had a few sessions together making house music, though neither of them can remember why they never finished anything or, indeed, what became of the tracks. fast forward a few years and they finally got back into the studio to make sweet music together under the moniker hotel motel. since then they have created a rich seam of work that some have already described as, like salvador dali with his pants down being fellated by deirdre barlow. few would disagree.
nice price deal !!! hotel motel is the project of legendary dj and book author bill brewster (>last night a dj saved my life<) and alex tepper - who produced under various names like liquid syndicate and rhythm n vybe before settling on a long term relationship with phil dockerty under the name futureshock ( junior boys/parlophon).
soundtrack to the 1958 film “ascenseur pour l’échafaud”, directed by louis malle, and starring jeanne moreau and maurice ronet. recorded in paris, december 4-5, 1957.
on “5 star motel”, that younger gitkin (henceforth referred to simply as gitkin) has sought to expand the philosophy he encountered on that tape. the guitar is common thread, the raft to navigate a sun-dappled stream of ideas. it’s an embrace of cultures where folkloric stringed instruments still rule, or where they ve led to a more recent embrace of the electric guitar. he traces the loose, meandering paths which join them together.
jj&j return on 12 inch after knocking us sideways with last years double lp. there is true finesse (as ever) in these tempod productions, with fabulous synth layering throughout and some of those ravey details they lace in so well for the more expanded dancers ... up and out there.
happy skulls first release of 2015 comes from uk based artist creta kano, who first impressed with his 2013 debut on rotterdam’s pinkman records. he showcases his highly melodious and deeply textured sound across three tracks for the bristol imprint. *skyway motel* is an emotive, detroit inspired amalgamation of warm chords and rolling drum machine rhythms. the tracks romantic qualities are emphasised on *skyway 81*, a screwed, pitched-down version that re-casts the original as a serotonin fuelled slow jam. *false water* completes the package. a sprawling trip in to broken techno territory, reminiscent of 90s era rephlex.
wildpitch i love you: during the last few years, i keep on getting videos and messages sent to me of djs like >playing your old roach motel mate in dc10< and im at p-bar and the place is going mad to wild luv.
jack dice is a new project from john twells and walkmaster flex, now releasing their debut ep for modern love. john twells, amongst very many other things, runs the type label and has been producing music of various different disciplines and varieties over the last 15 years. although hes never released anything on modern love before, hes a long time friend and associate of the label. walker is the manager of main attrakionz and has been djing with them for the last couple of years as the official green ova dj. jack dice is fuelled by an interest in bass, twells being a car audio nerd and walker having an obsession with 90s southern rap music. these are their first tracks produced together, who know what might follow.
a good thing takes its time, thats what rico henschel aka sweetncandy must have thought. after a little off-time for the producer located in bielefeld (ger) and an ample re-orientation phase, he is back now in the electronic music game with fresh sound – a sound that really hits your ears and brain, which makes us even happier to present sweetncandys debut single >feel something, say something< on our deep circus label. besides >feel something, say something<, the record contains two more tracks: >dew drop motel< & >you and you<, both bringing you lots of deepness, groove and funk just like the title-track. enjoy
hotel motel is the brand new dance music project from bill brewster of dj history/low life fame and alex tepper. heavily soaked in old school vibes, while plugged right into contemporary developments in the underground house music scene, hotel motel make excellent home tapers! for their first release on the imprint they work an absolutely killer house groove around a raw old school sample to produce the totally wicked >eye no<. this cut has classic grooves written all over it. simple, but 100% effective. it defines exactly what home taping is all about. on the flip, the burnt island casuals (aka the revenge and legendary sub club resident dj harri) throw all of their joint experience and love of house music at the original, bounce it off the studio walls and rework it into a warehouse bomb that will have you licking the walls for more. 100% house music with bits. play it all night long!!
