welcome to ‘magic maze’ a guided meditation from oslo’s helene rickard. over two sides of a c60 cassette, the norwegian dj curates an immersive journey through imaginary landscapes and possible musics, marrying the organic and synthetic into a deep tissue massage of healing frequencies. showing infinite patience, the camp cosmic regular gradually oscillates between fourth world exotica and pastoral new age, at once opening our minds with the celestial splendour of crystalline chimes connecting us all with future primitive hymns. as we float along under helene’s benevolent gaze we encounter each of the elements, oceanic reverb, vaporous reeds, earthy drones and smouldering tones, each imparting its own ancient wisdom as we pass.

following 3 maxis on hilltop imprint and the label construct re-form, the producer fareed formerly of the society of silence duo (versatile, concrete music) returns on the new label, maze, dedicated to experimental breaks and cinematic soundscapes. this first ep, with irregular rhythms and metallic sounds, loses us in the meanders of a jungle and transports us into a world borrowed from mysticism.

dawn notes anticipated second release comes from chicago house music legend wyndell long. long has released music with iconic labels such as peace frog, djax, primate and r&s. keeping with the soulful side of deep house and techno music, long has composed four timeless tracks for vincent floyd s eclectic label. enter the maze is a musical journey into the unknown.

the belfast based dj & producer, garry mccartney, otherwise known as ejeca, has been steadily and consistently building his sound and profile over time, through a series of impressive releases for aus music, unknown to the unknown, w&o street tracks, bpitch control and last night on earth, amongst others.
ejeca carves out an energetic slab of audacious party house on ‘unloving’, resplendent with rolling beats and stabby chords, and topped off with dramatic strings and vocal chops. elsewhere on the ep, ejeca unleashes some 303 bassline action and dark vocals on ‘standard acid house track’, which thankfully rises well above anything standard! and on ‘crystal maze’, ejeca harks back to the darker dance energies that were a staple of the late 1980s uk acid house boom. wrapping up the ep, ‘iswhatis’ gets ever so slightly twisted with an orbiting synth hook and weighty stabs over a spirited rhythm section.

albrecht la brooy s analogue attic imprint welcomes citizen maze onto its roster with the four-track serenity in the woods ep. australian duo albrecht la brooy have been steadily carving out a name for themselves over the past few years with their jazz-inflected take on deep house via the likes of apollo/r&s, night tide and of course their own analogue attic imprint which has become a home for their own output as well as fellow australian artists like sleep d, rings around saturn and more. here though we see the label offer up the inaugural ep from melbourne s adam mccoy aka citizen maze. leading on the package is the ten-minute natural playgroun , embracing the labels signature field recording background aesthetic whilst stirring in organic drum grooves, fluttering pads and jazzy sax licks throughout. glade hollow follows with bumpy, off-kilter drums and ethereal chords at its core whilst horn lines and twinkling synth melodies wander across its eight-minute duration. moonlight sanctuary opens the flip-side, edging into darker territories with murky dubbed out synth flourishes, robust drums and tension building strings before title-track serenity in the woods rounds out the package, laying focus on a snaking sub bass groove, metallic percussive shuffles and expansive atmospherics.

italian producer morkebla presents his new “inner maze walkthrough” ep on fuselab. drippy rhythms, haunted industrial touch, subtly discomforting though balanced textures - a good blend of ambient electronica and nowadays meta divings into one’s mind corners. there is also a collaboration with infinity frequencies and a remix by perfume advert on a 12” with printed cover by theresa baumgartner.

drifting as a snow-smattered cloud from the north, breathing icy winds crackling with the splinters of crystal water and effervescent dust, hedge maze returns to the lobster theremin fold with four gently glowing tracks-from-the-hut that span crunchy house, hotel elevator ambient, deep-sea techno and skittering percussive drone. sand-blasted productions that curdle and bake with the treatment of valve-driven machinery, steadily condensing ideas on a window pane in todmorden.

bt09 - invisible darning brings together 4 unique acts, covering a wide spectrum of techno and electro. crystal maze s crossroad blues kicks off the ep with slow mo tripped out techno. dez williams hand on mouth follows up with spaced out, stargazing electro. on the flip we have switzerland’s echo 106 - 100m splutter bringing stuttering arpeggiated synths for an epic showdown. closing the ep albert van abbe resurrects his dormant the pulse projects for the brutalist crunching grounds. very limited copies. vinyl comes hand stamped complete with individual screen printed artwork unique to each copy.

the lobster theremin white label debuts yet another young producer in the shape of the leeds-based hedge maze. with a tightly crafted, hazy, blissed-out house sound these three tracks have been culled from the muggy undergrowth of his northern harddrive. untitled is a chattering roller, smothered with a throbbing, wavy bassline and ending in a fuzzy, chord-soaked crescendo, while the slow, drudging rhythms of dysania give a heavy nod to some of lowtec s down tempo numbers for the label. the release is rounded out with the glistening, black-sun shower of (slow). all delay-drenched crystal stabs and oscillating soundscapes. a floating, ethereal trip into the afterlife.

this ep is part of a 2 ep series from steve romani (db_24) released on his own label modular machine records, following the urban works series released on ac records. the track *corridor* was previously released on ac_01 in 2009. the tracks mix various styles, to create a special downtempo ep. the 9 minute final track is a self remix of the track *urban maze* under the electro hip hop aka mattamass.

nice price deal !!! after three releases of darkened house, proto rave and weird techno, hollands boutique purple maze label takes a detour into funky disco territory with prime numbers and firecracker craftsman fudge fingas at the helm. his amaranthine labyrinth ep is lively, bright and sugary, but still features plenty of complex analogue machinery to get you dancing.eyes on the prize opens proceedings with some distant bongos, glassy percussion and punchy kick drums. its a jostling track with insistent claps running right through it that really comes alive when some sweeping chords bring irresistible colour and funk.
