“finding people” is the newest recording from croatian amor, the morphing alias of loke rahbek. with last year’s croatian amor album, “love means taking action”, we witnessed a transformation in the project, its wide-eyed gaze having stared deep into the news feed, reengineering its heartstrings. finding people takes this even further. white vinyl presented in a clear pvc sleeve.

loke rahbek returns with his fifth album under the croatian amor alias with love means taking action, recently premiered at the 2016 edition of berlin atonal where it was considered by many as one of the festival highlights. although not as harsh and abrasive as previous albums, such as genitalia garden or last years the wild palms, rahbeck still manages to execute a polarising opus, comprised of short ambient journeys which incorporate various sonic influences and clever use of sampling outside of his usual employment of textural noise treatments. field recordings, immaculate synthesis and emotional vocal snippets are interspersed throughout this exploration of love and human connection. the title track, in particular, could well be one of our favourite songs this year. quite simply: breathtaking.

hang on little tomato, pink martini s second album, features mostly original songs written by the band and its extended family. drawing on themes articulated in their first album, hang on little tomato is the result of the group s diverse collaborations and inspirations. from an advertisement for hunt s ketchup in a 1964 issue of life magazine to a dance sequence in the 1950 italian film anna, hang on little tomato includes songs in french, italian, japanese, croatian, spanish and english.

born and raised on the island of trinidad and tobago, today a place this producer calls -home- is found on various locations scattered all over the globe and a variety of influences is what is immediately evident by rich sounds and textures engraved onto this piece of vinyl.

a side, -i want- is the most laid-back moment, in lack of a better term. warm-sounding tribal percussions supporting the interaction of deep chords and wonderfully lush synths running thought the whole track only to get enriched with a beautiful piano line in the 2nd half. if there is track fitting to represent the sunset, that transition from day to night moment – -i would- is the one.

b1 -ghost- is the track on the record with the most forward-momentum. deep tribal rhythms and lush synth lines are a sort-of a leitmotif on this record and are present here as well, with an occasional vocal snippet that only deepens the magic.

b2 -abourisha- makes good use of those leitmotifs in a similarly effective but overall quite different manner. broken rhythm gives it a slightly different energy, making it an ideal track for those 5 am moments when a track like this marks the night.

ilija rudman is certainly a prolific artist, regularly appearing on labels like is it balearic? and running his own imogen label to ensure he s always got an outlet for the classically informed grooves he does so well. paradigma is his third studio album, and it finds the croatian producer exploring all manner of moods both day time and nocturnal. at one moment you might be wistfully cruising down the sultry boulevards of temptations trial, only to cosy up with the comely tones of creamfields or the vibrant chords ofelastica. by and large it s a downtempo affair for private reflection, steeped in 80s glamour and produced with a crystalline perfection to add that all-important glint to your life.

its the big 5! berlin frankfurt based label house is ok is celebrating its five-year long presence and has decided to mark that period with something special labels story started with a sticker homeboy printed in his former hometown, zagreb, saying house is ok. catchy, right? it became an underground slogan of the local scene. it didnt take long for people to embrace the idea stating that its ok to be into melodic, fresh, groovy yet, at times, a bit awkward dance music. just around the same time homeboys frankfurt based bros oliver achatz and janis played with the idea of starting a record label. guess what the logical choice for the name was? ten records, dozens of original songs and remixes later house is ok continues to grow. literally. what was once a platform for the original three founders is now an international family affair supporting the talented artists from frankfurt, stockholm, alexandria and orlando. nurturing the friendly approach this musical family continues to grow. looking back at the first five years, not only at the music that connected them all but at the bonds that deepened through the production process, house is ok crew wanted to take create a proper reminder and thank the ones supporting them throughout the years. a double 12 pack titled gemišt seemed like a proper way to do that. „gemišt will be released as two separate eps featuring the original music from kornél kovacs, roman flügel, gavri & mcqueen, tcb, house of life and the label makers themselves. oliver and janis deliver tracks under their known names, while homeboy introduces his new project with fellow wilde renate resident the swift, called longhair. croatian artist ugruv smek marks his yearlong collaboration with the label delivering yet another smashing artwork.

with every album project comes a proper remix pack. marco bailey has invited some of his most respected colleagues in modern day techno to come up with an interpretation of two of temper’s toughest cuts.
“planet mad” is being reworked by marcel fengler and andre kronert. fengler’s rework is an adventurous take on the original and has a strong emphasis on rhythm. without loosing with the original idea, fengler builds the rhythm section into a wash of bold drums and rich percussion. andre kronert’s take on “planet mad” pushes the track s idea into a different direction. kronert yet again proves to be a craftsman when it comes to textures and builds. while the recognizable bass sound of the original keeps thumping, atypical bits of fx are added to build on an unusual but very soothing atmosphere.
for the b side, “naga” is being reshaped by croatian master of electronics petar dundov and rotterdam based fast riser, koen hoets. petar dundov comes up with an esoteric take on “naga”. whilst respecting the form of the original, dundov goes one notch deeper with his wide array dub elements and feral hat sounds. koen hoets delivers a more demure take on “naga”. whilst the rhythm section might not be suitable for all club situations, this is adventurous techno at its best. noteworthy fx and soul touching strings that float throughout.

dusk & dawn is private agenda s most conceptual work to date. sat at a grand piano, the pair composed two nocturnes over the course of twelve moonlit hours, chronicling the allure and mystique of the night. building on an emotive pop foundation, developed over releases on international feel and their own nightshift imprint, dusk & dawn is a deeper sonic exploration that pays closer attention to ambience and sound design. dusk is an enchanting take on new wave pop, referencing talk talk and early simple minds. a drum machine beats a half-time groove while a dusty but characterful synthesizer pulls the track towards it s cathartic dream-pop apex. dawn draws on contemporaries like imaginary softwoods and croatian amor, bringing the listener down to earth into lucidity. beautiful arpeggios soar over reverse guitars, wistful lyricism is coupled with detailed ambience. a blissful meditation to ease you into the day. remixes come from faze action, ron basejam and ian blevins who all add their deft to touch to dawn and offer up flavors from different corners of the dance floor to this adriatic / balearic influenced piece of music.

having crept out of the tape undergrowth and respected haunts like clan destine and always human to earn more civilized recognition on bank records nyc and bliq, strahinja arbutina makes the move to vivod for yet more of that edgy, leftfield techno business that keeps mothers awake at night from worry. the grit, noise and distortion has been faithfully carried through from the cassette-based roots of arbutinas sound, but these tracks are more than ready to do the damage in the dance (where you re less likely to find a tape deck). hold on tight as the likes of way ahead give the sound engineer a fright when they think the system has overloaded.

sunstrumental is a double single of two neck breakin, raw, dirty, mpc cuts. it s a nod to the boom-bap school but at the same time also breaks that dogma with fresh current details. instrumentals that many mcs would love to jump on but it s even better they didnt. sunstrumental is the first solo vinyl release by sunnysun, but expect this to be just the beginning of what is to yet to come. sunny is an all-round player: established as an mc (croatian freestyle vice-champion), he lately shifted his focus more on studio work and djing. he created the first mixtape of exclusively slovenian rap music selotejp, his beats underline the lyrics of numerous mcs and appear on compilations like stiropor, ctrl n and btf x rx:tx. all in all, an unorthodox whiz never afraid of gazing into different directions, never limiting himself to just one side of hip hop. truly one of the key players, linking the various clans, posses, crews and cliks. these are his beats.

favorite recordings proudly presents this new official reissue of arian: a rare and underrated disco album originally released in 1981 by pgp rtb label and fully recorded in new-york. arian kerliu was born in the small town of macedonia, dibra or debar. arian’s first recordings for a local radio stations were at the age of 14, appearing in almost every music festival in ex-yugoslavia. when he was 19, arian came to new york city, working different jobs and studying music. his first music engagements were in various clubs throughout the city, playing guitar and singing. he then met with james benjamin-fish, well known bass-guitar player, with whom he formed the band arian & funky family, mainly performing in the best clubs of nyc at that time. together, they came to an idea to record an album of their own. after travelling throughout the us, they got to know each other very well, and had connected with probably some of the best musicians you could find at that time. thus they had sinclair acey arranging three songs and hubert eaves, as a writer of -still together-, a beautiful ballad written in honor of his wife. by that time hubert had gained two grammy awards for stephanie mills’ albums. kornelius cambell also wrote and composed two songs of the album, which sinclair acey arranged. the album also contains a great cover of “can’t say goodbye” by bobby caldwell, a song that arian and james had interpreted almost every night when touring. and all of this completed with the background vocals of tawatha agee (mtume), shevill alexander and sybil thomas (raw silk). arian & funky family band was then invited in yugoslavia for a european tour, including james, kornelius and stacey, but also others great musicians such as william -spaceman- patterson, zane mark, steve kroon, trevor gale, alex foster, or reggie marks, not forgetting flame braithwaite and meli sa morgan on background vocals. having the material of the 4 songs ready and finalized, the pgp rtb label from belgrade offered them to release an album, with the idea to also adapt the songs with lyrics from the famous croatian musician and writer mario mihaljevic. today, favorite recordings is deeply honored to bring this brilliant lp back to life. in order to insure the best sound quality, the original tracklist has been dispatched on a double vinyl version, which should please all djs and music collectors

italian label greentech was inaugurated by minimono last year with a great remix by windy city legend paul johnson. the second edition features gaetano caruana aka caruan making his debut in production after many years of djing. -tempo reale- is an inventive and off kilter groove generated by clearly analogue means that pounds and grinds away out of sync at first, until it gradually begins to lock and it sounds great. there s some killer remixes by a real who s who of the scene and we can t help but mention all of them! first up fellow italians verrina & ventura deliver a typically stripped and rolling minimal house rendition. croatian hypnotic techno don petar dundov then delivers something more pounding and aggressive than we re used to, but we loved it all the same. finally the -eduardo de la calle tempo intrusion reale remix- sees the spanish master of trance induction deliver one of his best remixes in a while, complete with spooky sci-fi atmosphere, millsian bleeps and sonar blips.

after a summer of trips around the globe to play at croatian festivals, balinese beach clubs and a variety of underground establishments, pedro & dicky deliver the latest episode on their own paradise row label. the ep fuses their love of disco, house, italo and balearic sounds and is a proper party-starting, medium sized player with tracks that are ripe for most dance floor moments and occasions. the up-for-it, head-nodding arps and discoid thrills of dance to love get things going in style. while the chunky house and barbarellas inspired vibes of i think i can feel something will really get you moving. this one has been going down a storm in the clubs this summer. and finally, things come to a grande finale with perfecto , which cooks up italian influences with ma foombey style longings to make for a sound as balearic as large hierbas on ice. perfecto!

californiabased producer damon bell could not find a more suitable home for his new 12inch than croatian label burek. its his first one since blues for the libyan lp released in 2015. for deepblak, and it sounds as if the time off was well spent. two words that perfectly describe this record are rich and colourful, and the description is equally applicable to all three cuts. stand by me is a synthheavy piece built around the interplay between tracks rougher sounds and big lush pads. on the flipside, life is slightly faster and more direct, with a wonderful guitar part that circles around the main theme throughout the most of the track. similarly mannered, but slightly more intense transatlantic journey? we been here! is the last piece and features an infectious groove with lead synth piercing through layers of delicate arpeggios playing in the background. all in all, it feels good to have damon in the team. we hope youll enjoy this record

following a brief stint in italy with hesperius draco, frigio records is on the road again, this time crossing the adriatic to hook up with le chocolat noir. the croatian artist, known for disco panonia and his work as honored matres, is no stranger to frigio, having featured on all stars vol 1 in 2014. -transform ep- is introduced by the industrial mental sounds of -greedy pets- and followed by a new name to the roster as june delivers his interpretation of it.

the latest release on antonio zuza and ilija rudman s imogen label once again features the latter, celebrated croatian producer and also introduces andre espeut. a performer, songwriter and arranger born in london with west indian, african, french and spanish heritage, espeut was raised on a diet of musical goodness. house, rare groove, latin and disco among the musical styles that sunk into espeuts dna in his formative years, making him the perfect foil for rudman on this 12inch, in her eyes. alongside the slowed down vibe of the original version, uk house royalty charles webster gets the call to turn in a superb remix for the djs!

pomalo, means take it easy in croatian dalmatia region s slang, is the latest addition to the burek/barba family.

a1 nubian mindz - deep in raves: well known for his versatile and rich production, colin delivers once more. with a quite suitable name - deep in raves is just that. a deep plunge into dark and rave-like atmosphere. after a short intro layered with an ominous voice, massive bassline takes over and drives the track through the darkest curves. enriched with short percussions and a synth stab this is quite a stomper best experienced on a good club soundsystem, preferably in the dark. a2 volster - nebula: almost obsessed with audio purity, volster manages to combine new and modern sounds with old-school genre roots. nebula is all about complexity. although it is based on an electro foundations, it s so much more. space filled with an oscillatory synth motion perplexed with smooth pads that gives the impression of an interstellar properties. no detail is left unengaged, from the 808 that keeps everything in motion to the subtle amount of panning. this is a beautifully crafted story by a producer who is slowly but steadily growing into one of the best croatian artists. b1 lucretio - dracula: the most famed beard of cadoneghe/italy has pulled another magic gem from his music source. widely known for his relentless tendency to push the analogue spectrum to it s extreme, lucretio surprises once more with his ability to blend simple pieces into an effective sub storm with almost comic like features. dracula is not your conventional tune and it s pretty obvious why as soon as you put the needle on. broke down rhythm is heavily fueled by polished but enormous sub background with sparse and ¥in your face¥ shots. seemingly random notes take a gloomy and powerful form during the break and soon the lurky atmosphere comes into picture. this is truly brilliance in it s full simplicity. if only bram stoker could hear this, he would probably be both stunned and amused! b2 james booth - jxst do it: one of our goals on vakum is to be on a lookout for a new and promising talents. berlin based james booth surely fits the bill. jxst do it is a seriously crafted track with rich rhythmic section wrapped in a steady build up. after the initial break-beat intro sliced in short chunks, subtle 303 bassline takes over and the rhythmic game begins. booth delivers a perfectly timed cuts accompanied by a diverse palette of percussions. this is a perfect piece for those build up moments in the club..

jackie brown enters 2016 with new 12 inch from el nino andres - a four track ep called “she understood duke ellington”. as with his previous releases, croatian producer offers his take on house music thats influenced by jazz, soul and funk. drum machines, samplers and antons improvisations on his piano and rhodes make for an ep of warm, melodic and groovy house music. everything is rounded up with amazing artwork from maximilian moser.
