after metropolitan jazz affair, the dynamics and mr president, master of musical ubiquity bruno ?patchworks? hovart proudly presents uptown funk empire, a burning tribute to one of his all time greatest loves: funk. bruno ?patchworks? hovart, as a self-taught musician and typical teenager, started playling guitar, bass and keyboards at age 15, covering james brown, jimi hendrix and cream in his bedroom and, later in college bands. his first releases are in the mid 90s, with deep house and disco live bands and various electronic projects. he quickly develops and shows very special skills for vintage disco/funk productions with a contemporary flavor. this gifted boy?s been working with artists such as amp fiddler, archie shepp, mr day, paul randolph... and for many recording labels such as i still music (usa), favorite recordings (france), infracom (germany), further out (uk)... uptown funk empire is an exciting and ambitious project, worthy of its name. while the first album is simply called ?the empire strikes back?, it?s no joke... forget the whole revival thing, this sounds like an actual rebirth of the real funky stuff. it?s like being back to the better days of funk without a travel machine... the vibe is vintage but the sound is fresh...that?s not funky music, that?s funky music !

strut presents the brand new album an angel fell from cosmic jazz travellers the pyramids, led by saxophonist idris ackamoor. produced by malcolm catto of the heliocentrics, the album was recorded during an intense week at quatermass studios in london. some of the many highlights include the poignant title track depicting a fallen angel in purgatory, outrage and grief on the powerful, hard hitting soliloquy for michael brown and the lilting, beautiful album closer, sunset. the pyramids originally came together in 1972 at antioch college, yellow springs, ohio where teachers included renowned pianist, cecil taylor. after forming in paris and embarking on a cultural odyssey across africa, the group recorded three independent albums,‘lalibela (1973), king of kings (1974) and birth/speed/merging (1976) and became renowned for their striking live shows, mixing percussive, spiritual and space-age jazz with performance theatre and dance.

panic! at the disco präsentieren 2017 ein reissue ihres debütalbums »a fever you can’t sweat out«, und zwar auf vinyl.
das album erschien ursprünglich bereits am 27. september 2005, und zwar beim label decaydance records von fallout-boy-gründer pete wentz. dieser hatte zuvor demos der band gehört und nahm sie unter vertrag, noch bevor sie jemals live performt hatte.
aufgenommen wurden die 13 songs von »a fever you can’t sweat out« in den somd! studios in college park, maryland. für die produktion zeichnete matt squire (good charlotte, the used, taking back sunday) verantwortlich.
das album wurde ein kommerzieller erfolg. die zweite singleauskopplung »i write sins not tragedies« schaffte es in den usa bis in die top 10 der charts.

college ist eines der musikalischen projekte des französischen musikers david grellier, der auch als valerie und mitch silver bekannt ist. der film-soundtrack zu “drive” machte ihn über nacht berühmt. der song “a real hero” von college war einer der beiden pop-tracks (mit “under your spell” von desire), welche die schlüsselszenen des films untermalten und den soundtrack so berühmt machten. “shanghai” ist ein konzeptalbum, welches stimmungen dieser stadt reflektiert. dies hört sich über weite strecken wie ein imaginärer soundtrack im 80s electro-gewand an. mit dem stück “love peas” ist gewissermaßen ein chinesischer song geboten, der in die fußstapfen von “a real hero” treten könnte. fans von johnny jewel/chromatics sollten hier herein hören!

college - old tapes celebrates ten years of composition from 2006 and 2016. most of these tracks are unreleased demo versions. to illustrate the music video of the track -auto pilot-, college team up with the director dan bell. this collaboration, born out of the same generational anchoring, reflects the strange dream of a paradise of the consumption which collapses silently.

this ep starts with “stitched-, which begins by a rough & anxious introduction with a drone bass and a dissonance pad. then a steamroller sub bass engaged itself into an insane run drived by a brushing arpeggiated synth and sharpened cymbals. college road, the eponym track is a bright energetic trippy techno track influenced by house grooves & sonorities, for club use (not only). the last track bkr is a live construct track with both hardware and software stuff to create a freaky bouncing groove.

ladies and gentlemen... the house kingpin dj sneak once again delivers a 4 track banger with a remix by nyc 1200 warriors. get ready for the best sneak signature sounds that bring dancefloors alive from the dead. on the a side i am sneak a heavy todd terry style influenced rhythm track with chants about if you re down with me count 1.2,3... & well, well, well... sneak comes back with a smoother but jackin house beat with some old college radio interview from the early 90s, sneak gets an introduction to the track itself and gives many props to the people that still love and do house music. the b side we have cant take no more and a remix by nycs 1200 warriors to complement this house ragga hi energetic house dance floor killer. these hard hitting chicago - nyc influenced tracks have the elements of pure street sounds, bangin beats as usual and the sickest 1 bar loops that only sneak can put together. this 4 track ep brings back the serious sneak sound that is much needed in danfloors across the globe.

the continuing success of the drive soundtrack still registering healthy sales almost two years on from the film s release is due in no small part to french electronica artist college, whose track a real hero (featuring electric youth) was selected as the main theme to the film by director nicolas winding refn.
