the score for “the theory of everything” is created by the recently deceased (9 february 2018) icelandic composer jóhann jóhannsson. jóhannsson’s intricate compositions provide a stunning backdrop to the romantic drama about stephen and jane hawking, portrayed in the film by eddie redmayne (“les misérables”) and felicity jones (“the amazing spider-man 2”). he has composed music for many films including scoring director denis villeneuvue’s film “prisoners” and josh c. waller’s “mccanick”. limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on transparent blue 180 gram double vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

dj support comes from ben ufo, jon k and hodge. semtek returns with his first work since 2012, when he contributed 12inches to world unknown, awkward movements and in plain sight. in the meantime the cambridge-born, bristol-based producer and dj has been hard at work running his label don t be afraid, bringing through talent including mr beatnick and mgun. bad teeth consists of nothing more complicated than two complementary tracks for the dancefloor, inspired by bleep n bass, jungle and two-step. the title track rolls moody synths, metallic stabs and offbeat drums into a rugged uk house joint. jon of worcester twists similar elements around a broken groove, cutting between drum machine and breakbeats. both tracks feature rolling basslines tuned for maximum soundsystem pressure.

danism makes their debut on noir music with the emotional reciprocated love featuring the vocals of legend arnold jarvis. we fell in love with this stringled and super smooth song from 1st listen at the nm offices. deephouse like it sounded back in the day and in general just a timeless effort by the cambridge based guys. deetron, deux tigres and city soul project deliver the remixes and all of them are spot on quality with a more clubby edge. so instead of keep hyping this brilliant release. let the music do the talking.

aus music round out 2015 by welcoming shenoda, long term label friend and one time remixer, for his first full length ep. originally hailing from cambridge, shenoda has been on aus radar for some time.

electric minds began as a london based promotion outfit in 2007 before subsequently launching their label under the same name which is designed to act as a platform for their guests to showcase their productions. over the years they have amassed a lauded back catalogue of releases which has featured the likes of move d, endian, radio slave and mark e. now, in the follow up to their latest release from last magpie which featured trevino on remix duties they ready their next release from hypercolour mainstay shenoda. originally hailing from cambridge, shenoda is an artist who has astutely touched on many basis across a multifaceted back catalogue. releases on fear of flying, manmakemusic and hypercolour offshoot losing suki have seen him meld garage, house and techno whilst all the while keeping his eye firmly on the needs of the dancefloor.

cambridge resident samuel emerson iliffe, aka ill life, is driven by a penchant for warping things. akin to warping his sonorous surname into the ill life moniker, he warps formely innocuous techno fare into a clangorous, concussive march of living, breathing percussion. samuels sonics seemingly owe a considerable amount to recent innovations from the likes of blawan or perc trax alumni, however his only fault is taking part in the phenomenon of synchronous innovation. before karenn coalesced, before clouds newest offerings started being rinsed, ill life had long since moulded his sound. it is infinite machines infinite regret to have discovered him so belatedly. but there is no use crying over spilled trax.

there once was a scene up in boston, where things werent nearly so awesome. so the kids went to cambridge where people have knowledge and there the dance music did blossom!
