having started out throwing diy raves in toronto canada, the forth collective became influenced by the citys hunger for self-expression. various artists vol. 2 is the second instalment in a series of compilations that gives toronto artists a chance to realise their ideas on the local and international stage.

this has always been a rare 12inch originally only released in the uk in 1979, phoenix was considered to be too disco at the time and the release pretty much sank without trace - one reason why finding those original uk 12inches is near on impossible these days. just 2 copies on discogs and a mint one will be circa £50 if you re ever lucky enough to find one. however, since 1979 phoenix has grown in stature and what was once considered to be a twee disco tune has now become a huge collector s item and a staple in the right clubs. no surprise really as this is norman connors at the top of his game and the production is red-hot. how phoenix never made it to 12inch vinyl in the u.s. is one of the great mysteries of life but here it is on beautiful fresh 12inch vinyl some 38 years later. as with all our 12inch re-issues we ve replicated the original label. luckily there are no bootlegs to contend with on this release, so this is the first re-issue of this song since the original release date, so order with confidence

la nature malade brings along a brand new album of analog electronics for 2015 from a well known uk producer operating under a new alias, aquariun. eden and after is a 9 track album on a limited hand numbered pro dubbed blood red cassette in an edition of 100 worldwide. crossing styles and opening with the sub aquatic funk of title track side one takes you through banging electro on energy in constitution, the dark dub techno of to the letter of my oath and leaves you disappearing through a black hole on the path of helium rain. on side two a slice of dark, heavy instrumental hip hop gets things started with where is that perception? next we get into some straight 4/4 club techno with cut up drums and bumping baseline of mi dominante before moving through some blissed out detroit vibes on earth looking inwards, aliens talking through fm synthesis on collected stills and finally closing out on a rough as you like tr606 driven electro groover. look out for more to come from aquariun in 2016.

the next alien jams 12” is from rkss, entitled cutoff ep. these four tracks were recorded in 2014 within a period of two weeks, using a juno-60 and vermona retroverb lancet. perhaps their most dance-able release to date, cutoff interweaves aquarian dream-like electronics throughout soggy percussion and glistening chimes. propelling the listener forward, rkss churns through water-logged signals, while synths cut through in gusts of euphoria.

this incredible one-off album produced by roy ayers in 1981 features the amazing vocal talents of sylvia striplin, one of the featured members of eighties ladies, who the year before had released another seminal release (ladies of the eighties) also produced by roy ayers. striplin was also the vocalist in the classic jazz fusion soul group aquarian dream. sylvia striplins solo album features the two classic singles >give me your love< and >you cant turn love away<. her only solo album – this has been a serious collectors album ever since its original release and is definitely a rare groove holy grail!
soul jazz records are re-issuing this remastered album in its entirety with original artwork, on heavyweight double vinyl and deluxe heavyweight card – even better and louder than the original!

songs from the source is a lost and found 1973 recording of the source family. these twelve songs were recorded live in the hollywood hills as a rehearsal for a concert date that spirit of 76 - aka yahowah 13, the savage sons of yahowa, yodship, and firewaterair, now known as children of the sixth root race - had at the whisky. a 1/4 tape copy of the recording was found in chicago in 2006, though no one is really sure how it got there. djin aquarian, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for spirit of 76, recalls being sent on a mission to chicago later in 1973, where he believes he left the tape with an old friend. djin wrote most of the songs in the year before he joined with the source, as part of his solo mystical quest to help enlighten the world before it might annihilate itself, adding, im glad both the album and the world are still here.though this rehearsal wasnt meant to be released at the time, there are probably no other recordings as complete of the band doing these songs. the spirit of 76 had a different sound than the one yahowah 13 made with yahowa. songs from the source has more r n b grooved energy, with splashes of synth and organ, a female vocal chorus and streamlined fusion rhythms backing the uniquely yahowan lyrical populism of songs like godmen and lost dead but hoping. songs from the source is a miraculous missing piece of the sources positive musical movement. the members of yahowah 13 (djin, sunflower on bass, octavius on drums) were joined by family members ahom, aquariana, cinderella, rhythm, vibration, and zoroaster on lead guitar, to create the ecstatic sound of spirit of 76.
