hot shots of reggae is an recording on which a bunch of popular reggae songs are brought together. the album was originally released in the autumn of 1970 and compiled by the legendary chinese-jamaican producer leslie kong. he had enjoyed many hits in in europe and selected some of the true pearls from the reggae music to shine on the album. the album includes the maytals hit monkey man, the sparkling so much love by joe white and the fine rythms of ken boothe�s freedom street. the influential producer leslie kong once discovered jimmy cliff and recorded him on his own record label beverley�s. in 1962 he recorded bob marley�s first single and through the 60�s het became known as the producer of many big artists, like desmond dekker and joe higgs. he died of a heart attack, at the age of 38, in august 1971.

the jamaican sonia pottinger was once called �the most important jamaican woman involved in music business�. dancing down orange street is a collection of some of her famous productions for different artists. the album captures the moment when rocksteady transformed into reggae by speeding up a little and moving towards a more jerky and less smooth musical palette. famous singers as delano stewart and ken boothe are present on the album with multiple tracks. the vocal trio the melodians (known for their hit �rivers of babylon�) provide a couple of beautifull songs. even after all those years (released for the first time in 1969) the compilation remains a treasure of showcasing some of the finest songs produced by sonia. sonia pottinger was married to music producer lyndon pottinger and started to record musicians in 1996. during the late 60�s she produced songs for joe white, the melodians and toots & the maytals.

a much in demand reissue of two of nyc born-and-bred, pal joeys, classics from his joint label with reynald deschamps, loop dloop. first up, party time which harnesses that 90s nyc underground house energy with a rawness that was to emanate through many of pal joeys subsequent productions. scalpel in hand, joey expertly crafted this sample laden groover, his trademark stuttering, off-kilter rhythms, loops and fills keeping listeners on their toes throughout, never knowing how the next phrase might unfold. on the flip, raw love utilises a seminal disco classic as its main sample source, looping it in a way only pal joeys mind knows how, adding percussive hits and extra effects to create an innovative, animated and exhilaratingly rhythmic dancefloor bomb. both tracks are perfect examples of the simplicity and seeming effortlessness that pal joey maintains in his productions, adhering to the mantra that less is more but with a resonating rawness that touches deep down in the soul.

heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger �nakombe nga� by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrat�s haunting �what did she say?� at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginity�s melancholic �the key�, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the label�s soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb �nakombe nga�. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.

in the 80s, a nigerian dj named hycentto junior was notorious for making onitsha people dance on his grooves. soon, influenced by u.s hip-hop artists, he began rapping on top of the music he played. his eccentric style drew the attention of the biggest name, and the famous nkono teles decided to work with him on his next lp, mama groove. their project was released in 1991. due to unfortunate circumstances, the number of copies available was really low, making it very hard to find. more than 25 years later, working for a motor company, hycentto met online with french music passionate collective �lorem ipsum�, that had randomly found his mama groove lp. the result is a reissue auditioning all the 1991 mama groove�s tracks and two bonuses selected from his first 1984 album, at a party last night. the unique variety of sounds and genres, covering electro hip-hop, digi reggae and disco-funk, will carry you from poolside to late night dancefloors!

ozel ab follows up releases on lobster theremin and workshop with this highly accomplished genre-busting ep for third ear. ozel ab approached third ear with a selection of tracks for us to consider, which he thought would suit the label. he was not wrong.

mps is proud to be able to offer you xray xperiments vol 2 (xray 003) as a limited edition two disc set for the best reproduction and your listening pleasure. here s a quick breakdown of the tracks, why i like this record so much and a chance to hear it in full if unfamiliar: i first came across this 6 track ep in selecta-disc, northampton, it has been a treasured record in my collection ever since. on the original issue the most popular track, take no chance, was located last on the a side, the lowest sound quality part of any vinyl disc. later, presumably for dj s, a louder cut remix single of take no chance was issued. the track featured again on the compilation classic to the core but sourced from vinyl as aphrodite, who compiled the collection, did not know who made the music so they could not be found

attempting to pigeonhole 79.5 into something as narrow as a single genre would be an ill advised, if not impossible task. the new york city band sounds like someone spinning a radio dial with such passionate intensity that all the stations blend together into a single, transcendent, almost spiritual force. its disco to the beat of modern house, its a supremes cover of a cardi b banger, its roland kirk playing jazz through one saxophone, funk through another, and the most earwormy pop tune the 1970s could muster through a third. its an experience one so effecting that with only a self-released 12inch single in circulation, 79.5 had been written up twice in the new yorker on the merit of their live sets alone. their debut album predictions is produced by leon michels and was recorded at the diamond mine in queens the old school way, with the whole band playing the songs in one take and captured to analog tape.

jump trax is another essential piece of early chicago house music crafted by the legendary duane thamm jr back in 1984. fusing together a myriad of influences including early 80s euro pop, italo disco and hi nrg, thamm jr was responsible for helping create and influence the burgeoning house sound that would emanate from the city all throughout the second half of the 1980s. not only were these sounds new and fresh, they were experimental too, jump trax sees the bpm s gradually shift throughout the duration of the tracks seamlessly giving the more adventurous djs out there more ammunition and room to experiment with styles and bpms. a truly visionary approach to production and all recorded and mixed within chicago s city limits by thamm jr at his reel to reel studio located in villa park, illinois. jump trax continues to be as influential today as it was back in 84, with many top dj s still citing the record as a go to, powerful indeed. chicagos still music are proud to present this fully legit, remastered and repressed piece of chicago house history. a truly pivotal record now made available again for 2018. essential sound for those who love the real deal snoozing not advised, og copies of this monster are hard to come by!

we could say that with this sixth studio album anthony joseph is back to his roots. indeed, it was recorded on his native island of trinidad. but it is more of a continuation, of a culmination. as the caribbean music has strongly infused the music of anthony since its inception. this album entitled people of the sun is a tribute to port of spain (pos), this bubbling port, meeting place of many cultures and a door open on south america. this energy is found throughout the album with many stars of the island (3 channel, brother resistance, ella andal, boogsie the king of steel pan) and pays tribute to rapso, a mixture of protest poetry and soca / calypso created in the 80�s. as always the verb remains in the spotlight with anthony joseph.

after reissuing stanislav tolkachevs masterpiece blue mood, the intergalactic research institute for sound comes back with two fresh pieces from georgian artists zesknel and irakli. following a strong start with de sounds from georgia, this new record explores a more abstract electronic music. zesknel, who is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, collaborates here with irakli on two dreamy and airy soundscapes which aspire to depict and recreate the atmosphere of the georgian capital. to do so, they asked for the help of rezo glonti who proceeded to make field-recordings in tbilisi. this work served as a base in order to create something unique and true to the city. the project is part of a sound installation which aims to blend architecture with sound. the idea of the two artists was to conceive a space where they could translate the spirit of tbilisi. inside that space will be found works exhibited by other georgian artists. and this is all part of the exhibition >lara protects me. eine georgische erzählung< at the museum angewante kunst frankfurt

skinny pelembe corrals together a cast of talented friends for his new ep. it�s his most ambitious release to date, boasting a different group or artist featuring on each of its tracks, each of them an act he�s met through music or through linking with brownswood�s celebrated talent development programme future bubblers two years ago. across its four entries, he bridges hip-hop, psych-rock and jazz-influenced tangents, cutting out a diverse cross-section of the city�s music scene. it�s a document of the connections he�s made as an artist, and is the most collaborative project he�s worked on so far. the title of the ep comes from some advice which skinny noted to himself on an old notebook. each of its songs started as a rough idea which was then fleshed out and re-imagined with his collaborators.

solipsism is an archival release of music from mike simonetti�s tenure as owner of italians do it better records, spanning from 2006-2013. during that time mike wrote a lot of music. some of it was used for films, some for tv commercials, some for fashion shows and he even released a record or two.

�wit blad� is the result of a beautiful collaborative project that started with illustrator joost stokhof. he was asked as an artist in residence for amsterdam�s hortus botanicus, a place where joost locked himself up for a week alongside the finest biodiversity in the city. joost asked eefje de visser to join him for a day and eefje asked nuno dos santos to form a powerful trinity of which �wit blad� is the unmistakable evidence.

our brand new series systematic soundscapes is for fans of club music made with highgrade and original synth sounds and without many times used vocal or sound sound samples. all tracks come along with fresh and unheard vibes. for the first volume which was compiled by marc romboy, sascha braemer celebrates his label debut with the moving butterflies, followed by high energy rhythms by spirit catcher from belgium who have already produced many tracks on the label. roy rosenfeld contributes distorted reality, which is in the best tradition of his music released on kx and systematic, straight, powerful and touching. and also thyladomid has his debut with devils dance, musical stuff as we know it from the label.

mythologen, aka alexander palmestal follows last year�s debut album mythologen with the 12� ep �church music�. this ep is a love declaration to londons club scenes and some of the titles are named after parts of districts in south east london. the tracks on this record are free and loose in its melodies and you hear that palmestal has worked on pure intuition in the song making process, inspired by the surrounding smells, sounds and people. as explosively impressing as the album was, is also �church music� and the airy, uplifting sound that has become part of mythologens trademark, is developed with a sacral touch. alexander palmestal have since the days of pistol disco in the early 2000�s been one step ahead of most acts in leftfield and house music and have created an own musical space to exist in - something most artist never achieve! �church music� consolidates mythologen�s position as both a guardian and an innovator of modern dance music

antoine harispurus was raised by a robot called v.i.c.t.o.r. the robot took care of little antoine and early on he gave him music lessons and also the right equipment, for example a roland 808. robotic, mechanical precision became significant for antoines music and soon he left the safety of his mothers toy store for the huge european club scene under his new pseudonym golden bug.
this year he releases two songs as a 7 inch vinyl and in digital format on hoga nord rekords. the a-side, �viaje a tenderloin� sounds like the inside of an east german military liaison in 1975 where the tabulating machines haven�t had service since the raise of the berlin wall. on the b-side �hitodoma�, guest vocalist jessica ho plays with her voice in a bubbly way above golden bugs characteristic metallic, world music influenced sounds and beats. the music would fit perfectly in a vast alien mountain landscape.
in conclusion, the music on this 7 inch is the sound of human and robot in close symbiosis - golden bug is music by robot and human for robot and human.

killer unreleased mid 70s blue eyed soul/aor between the sessions at wishborne sound studios, the session musicians terry woodford, clayton ivey, muscle shoals horns among others, got down to record some of the finest funky soul and aor. they took the name mirage, aiming for stardom. unfortunately no album was ever released and many tracks went on the shelves in the studio. over 40 years later, preservation records are releasing two of their finest tracks on an exculsive 7inch. only 500 pressed

tommy rawson releases are sporadic but always high quality. as a former member of the souled duo who ran the excellent fresh minute label hes been around the more tropical end of uk house and broken beat for many years and this, his first full release for bergerac ushers forth a new level in his sound. this whole record is a masterclass in post bruk, forward thinking, shining, bright uk dance music. unmatched in emotion and vibes. deep blue is quite simply the sound of the summer. sun drenched, euphoric and soaring. broken but not broken, 4/4 but not quite housey. jazzy, soulful yeah. it was the highlight of red rack ems olive grove closing set at love international last year when it provided the most halcyon of moments. live trumpet from vicky flint and a whole bag of vibes from tommy rawson. this is a classic. trust. past tense is a super tropical african tinged house stomper which shows tommys love of sunshine vibes once more with acres of space, insistent chants, dubby pianos and a tinge of jungle roller bass. the final track into the future takes us into almost blade runner-esque orchestral emotion but with a kind of balearic feel tucked in there too. beautiful, lilting, emotional memories. you can feel so much love in this track. such a special record. buy it. love it. treasure it.

started at the age of thirteen with a crate of his big brother s records, dj matpat was introduced to an eclectic mix of music that has influenced his take on house music. racking up releases from labels such as madhouse, exploited, plant music, w&o street tracks, as well as derrick carter s persnickety all stars label, dj matpat has now combined his passion for production and house music to form his own label entitled clubby boy. with the artistic stylings of his philly party club congress and a remix by the bunker artist justin cudmore, the first release its time! this album is a collaboration between labels kontra-musik and kess kill. what would have become of d.a.f. if they had been signed to trojan instead of mute back in the day add a good pinch of absurdism and social realism in the vein of prized film director roy andersson and vanligt folk might just be the answer. the gothenburg groups name can be translated to common people and they make use of primitive electronics, drums and skewed vocals - ranging from harsh social commentary to the purely nonsensical - to create their own take on body music. hambo is the name of a traditional swedish folk dance that was highly popular among the common people at the turn of the last century. with this album, vanligt folk juxtaposes the working class dance phenomena of hambo with modern day rave culture. this is done in the most blasphemous manner thinkable, as is the way of vanligt folk. concepts like nationalism, race and tradition are all treated with the same merry lack of reverence. the only thing that needs to be respected is the dance and those who take part in it, whether accompanied by accordions or drum machines. or both.
