june 2017, amsterdam, nl: it is with the utmost urgency that we report the conclusions of our experiments with controlled doses of 4-ho-met, codenamed st004.
as instructed, we met up with agent 23, who introduced us to the test subject– code name ben penn – who was ushered into the bunker for immediate testing. in order to observe his reactions, penn was injected with a modified dosage of 4-ho-met and locked inside with only and handful of electronic machines for company.
the subject immediately began acting strangely. it quickly became clear that 4-ho-met was increasing his capacity to produce music.
afterwards, penn was able to play us two audio interpretations of his experience. he was visibly shaken.

medical records returns to france for the reissue of the very rare and sought-after video liszt lp. ektakrom killer was released in 1981 and had never had never been reissued or repressed. the artist behind video liszt was xol, a french journalist and musician. commanding a multitude of analog synthesizers, moog modulars, an ems vocoder, and an apple two computer, xol crafted a very diverse album with styles ranging from sci-fi synth soundtracks, prog, space disco, and all the way to more accessible electropop.

primitive trust is the coming together of two experienced musical minds. in one corner is will saul of the influential aus music empire, and in the other is tom mangan, aka tee mango, the producer who started millionhands record and clothing label. the pair met many moons ago and reconnected recently at a festival in morocco. they bonded over music, lunch and shared family travails - and as they both now live in somerset decided a little local studio collaboration seemed all but essential. between them, these consumate country gentlemen have seen plenty a musical styles come and go, so decided their best route forward would be to make music to please themselves. to that end, they holed themselves up in tee mangos woodshed studio with the following ground rules: they would make music only with the gear they had (mpc 2000, ableton, roland 101, juno, fender rhodes, various fx pedals) they would trust their instincts and go with first feelings they would embrace the joy of randomness if in doubt they would ask what would carl do? with that, you have the simple but effective mo of primitive trust. these sessions have resulted in a series of three eps to be released over the course of four months. each ep will feature 2 or 3 original tracks and one fresh remix, with unique artwork and an illustration by all-around visual auteur geoff mcfetridge. using the building blocks of house, and classic techno primitive trust can do zoned out and romantic, as much as driving and heady, but with an ease that comes from experience, years in the making. while tipping their proverbial hats to the past they also look to the future with their sound, mixing samples, wigged out synthwork and propulsive rhythms to create something honest and heartfelt that will stand the test of time

fever am comes from a berlin connection between a pair of artists with roots on either side of the mediterranean sea and on both sides of the atlantic. label founders mor elian and rhyw (one half of cassegrain) share many musical reference points reaching back to early childhood right up to the present including the deeper, darker reaches of electronic music. the label is the pair’s rawest and truest realisation of these influences.
the first ep will be from elian, a sublime 4 tracker that has matured after a winter in the studio and is now ready for club play - from heating up peak time dance floors to trippier after hours moments. sprinkling her trademark stripped back sound with electro and breakbeats the release sets out the label’s stall to release vibrant, challenging dance floor music.

theomatic is back with a surprise 12-inch from the labels mainman an-2. mint ep is a collection of four space-boogie jams spanning a variety of moods and tempos that have been recorded over the period of last couple of years. the lo-fi beats and pulsating kalimba-esque arpeggios on sigint create an instant feel of a sci-fi movie soundtrack, while an ultra-deep kick drum and a punchy bass on mint is a sure way to test your speaker performance. things get more chilled and pensive on the flipside with dusky downtowns brooding synthwork and rolling pads taking you on a stroll along glittering neon-lit city streets. last, but not least, amberflames take on dusky downtown is a steaming affair that uses tight compression and lush synths and to create that special euphoric dancefloor moment.

the first inner shift encounter with ewan jansen was several years ago on a pair of test pressings, from mike grant of moods and grooves. the label hadn t even begun yet, but ewan created a huge impression and wasn t to be forgotten by them later. ffwd to 2016/17, enter: return to hyperbola. the first track in, you get a good tech house/deep house vibe called docking lane , fully equipped with lovely atmospheres, a driving kick and intelligent chords. next is bulkhead, mainly defined by a full-sounding, broken beat rhythm and expressive keyboards. b1 is deceleration , another 4-4 deep house number, but witha subtle quirkiness and over all moody feel. on the b2 is perspex, featuring a funky bass, nice pads and elevating keyboard part. dont miss out, ewan never fails to impress.

49th floor s night passage was vibraphones first release back in 1992 and was written & produced by ttusor member, stefano curti. stefano recorded the music in his own living room in north london in a truly house music fashion. night passage is a very stylish elegant & seductive example of classy italian deep house music, which seems to stand very well the test of time sounding as good and as fascinating today as it did back in 1992. this release contains the analog re-mastered version of the original 4 tracks first released in 1992.

copenhagen’s music for dreams continue their string of pearls in 2016 with the 12” release of apiento & lx’s dish. at the request of cutting edge danish designer trine lindegaard, paul byrne (aka apiento) created this music to accompany her dish project - a playful fusion of food, fashion and art - when it premiered at 2016 copenhagen fashion week. for the project, lindegaard worked with members of integration organization itmv in copenhagen to produce clothing items based on their favourite food dishes, apiento and regular collaborator uk-based house producer lx, used the recorded interviews of their discussions as raw material with cut-up samples of the women’s voices woven into the music for the runway show. the result is an ethereal and avant-garde mix of crisp beats and featherlight percussion blended in a fresh and modern oriental-flavoured balearic groove packed with gorgeous flutes and kalimbas. the powerful dub on the flip-side brings a heavier more trippy feel geared firmly for the dancefloor. as well as a string of great remixes and edits as apiento, paul byrne is also well known for his behind-thescenes work with labels like junior boy s own, international feel and deewee, and for his highly influential blog test pressing. limited edition vinyl - don’t miss.
