needs is a new label that bills itself as a not-for profit concern, which may apply to many record labels, but this one in particular calls upon a strong cast of deep house producers to impart the kind of smallville-friendly sounds that discerning heads should snap up in a heartbeat. hubie davisons i know is a melancholic affair with heart nagging strings, while johannes albert injects a little spice into proceedings with a choice breakbeat and some excellent bird song on vigilia. dj swaggers 21st century slow jam is a peppy little shuffler with warm acidic bass and a kick ass swing in the beat, and then bobby pleasure finishes the record off with the wistful but tech-edged cloudspotting.

for those unfamiliar with the atipic releases, it may seem that buenos aires� jorge savoretti has chosen to swim upstream on the latest atipic installment. as for a trained ear, the apparently bipolar approach, elegantly touching quite a few electronic influences from different decades, has a cohesive unity in all the 3 tracks presented. hidden under the sharp cut filters from the happy side a tune or building the groove to be unleashed in full swing on side b, it is up to the dancefloor characters to find these elements. rather unconventional, yet totally subjective, atipic004 is a proof of concept on how different angles can generate twisted and unexpected perspectives on modern electronic music.

for marco bellochios masterpeice debut film *i pugni in tasca*, ennio morricone composed some mysterious and obsessing music for soprano voice, harp, harpsychord, strings alternated to lounge music of the period, swing and jazz, creating a great contrast with the dark mood of the movie.

its been a year or two since we featured a 12- single release from a new project. so hear at bearfunk we are really pleased to be releasing a cracker of a track. -gong bong-. it is from the caribbean house who are a new(ish) italian collective based around the core members of billy bogus & ferderico bologna. the original is one part slo-mo disco, one part psychedelic moondance and one part sci-fi horror movie. the track begins with swirling bass guitar and grinding synth before layering on a waft of sound effects and spooky keys. if the first two thirds of the track is a caterpillar then the last third is a butterfly as uplifting riffs and swirls of layered keys bring things to a crescendo. fellow italians the mushrooms project are up on remix duty first of all. they strip back the layers and concentrate on the growling bass and locked on pulsating synth. its back to the uk for the second remix where label honcho stevie kotey gets his percussion out for a drum, timpani and swing remix. stay tuned for more from the collective on bearfunk shortly.

after the success of their first release, dsc � far reaching/too hard, holding hands is back with their sophomore outing and as before it is taking no prisoners. inspired by a nicolas lutz set as he warmed up fabric for villalobos a couple years back, the furnace has a break beat that will push the subs of any club to the limit. with every build and drop it increases in momentum until you are left with no choice but to throw down on the dance floor with unbridled passion. the furnace may be all about the big beat but it is no one trick pony. the tune has a depth and weirdness to it that will certainly keep you coming back for more� the sorcerer is a collaboration with good friend of dsc�s, guava. it is made up largely of recorded percussion and vocals at dsc�s studio in south london, which gives it a very special swing on the dance floor. the track lulls you into a false sense of security for the first third before finally letting the big freakiness out of the box. this is one for any dj that wants to leave clubbers going nuts and scratching their heads at the same time. both tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. they want big sound systems and dark rooms. close your eyes, hold hands and experience transcendental space flight�

manchester star oli furness will soon be leaving his mark on hot creations sister label emerald city with the irresistibly groovy wanna lie down, featuring chicagos own parris mitchell on the remix. olis output is characterized by dynamic range and rhythmic groove, and wanna lie down is no exception. raw, chugging beats, distinct vocals and subtle percussions create an undeniable swing that make you move. oli�s ability to veer between genres with ease and style is reflected in the depth of his releases on labels like hot creations, nervous, morris audio, skylax and his own labels music is love and mil. upcoming projects are planned on the infamous clone records, whilst receiving support from artists such as ricardo villalobos and laurent garnier through to modern artists like patrick topping and dj haus. parris mitchell helped to define the infamous dance mania imprint in chicago, releasing exclusively on the label from 1994-1997. learning his trade through heroes like ron hardy, he also recorded as victor romeo and rhythm ii rhythm. having released on the berlin based deep moves, this next remix on emerald city takes on delectable tribal tones with prominent hi-hats and bright musical keys.

catherine and gerald o-connell s work as lives of angels quietly and subtly helped to define a whole generation of post-punkers for the greater part of the 1980s. much like other luminaries of the scene at the time, the couple have remained in the shadows of time, highly praised by the collectors but barely ever cited by the mainstream, and if that s not punk then we don t know what is. dark entries are doing the honours of course, and the imprint have managed to license a whole bag of previously released and unreleased material, the former from a bunch of dusty cassettes which are now going for gold on the second-hand market. this was the era of the drum machine, and these 11 tunes are all carried by that unmistakable analogue swing, at times harsh and leaning into something tech-minded, and at other times playful and quirky, a tendency which defined this outfit and the time in which they operated. what a record, this is another dark entries monster

afrocentrist philou makes his debut on basic fingers with a trio of deep-seeded treats comprising one original and two game-changing edits. this homage to the senegal/mali mountain region softly ignites with the cosmic yearns and mild acid grounding of lumumba s revenge. it sets the scene for two takes on regional traditions tartits tribe adds a driving afrobeat and hypnotic swing to an ancient tombouctou desert song while fadimata s dibabba is a dense and inebriating weave of senegalese instruments and chants

berlin based arttu has been dropping his dusty fat beats across numerous techno labels including philpot, clone and 4lux for a few years but it was 2016�s track �hoodies� on arttu�s own imprint cyblo that caught the attention of accidental label boss matthew herbert (and which remains firmly in herbert�s record bag). arttu was invited onto the accidental jnr roster and has delivered a chunk of techno with so much swing it made donkey kong blush. arttu takes the most simple of jazz bass hooks and loops across a rigid kick, it�s when those hats kick in that the groove goes fucking wild. the presence of us native roberto q ingram on vocals brings a full detroit gangster flavour to the party. initially arttu and roberto had an idea to record a simple and sweaty track with roberto on the mic and arttu at the control of some dusty old machines. the result, �bass trakk� is exactly that: roberto dropping lyrics over a raw beat and a massive bassline. the ep is rounded off with a deep bit of techno �debris� with all the trappings of the darkest hour of a berlin winter in which it was recorded.

nyako is our 7th vinyl release here at otc and it s a big one. south african producer behr created nyako together with makadem during a santuri safari session at sondeka festival in kenya. the e.p is 4 cuts that build in brilliance from the original which has extremely broad appeal. indian producer daisho delivers a straight ahead 4 x 4 house groover, south-london production duo modified man swing their analogue machines into action for a heady synth adventure, which is just a bit broken. berlin-based duo of dirk leyers and dj nomad (hans reuschl) are the ideal pairing to merge technology and tradition together as africaine808 bring up the rear with a balearic sensation to round off the ep. makadem is a talented musician and vibrant performing artist from kenya. he s a figurehead of the benga scene in nairobi. his stage presence and powerful vocal delivery, had him likened to the legendary fela kuti. makadem innovates by bringing traditional african instrumentation, story telling and contemporary production methods together.
