slices of life celebrates the 10th release with a two-part vinyl compilation: sol10.1 and sol10.2! for the 10th release label owner barbara preisinger is gathering seven unreleased tracks on two seperate 12inches, by previous slices of life artists as well by producers who have a relationship to the label through frindship, events and personal support. each track presents the personal unique style of its producer, but all have a feeling for warm sounding organic house grooves in common, what slices of life stands for since the beginnings in 2009. on the first 12inch, sol10.1 the mole, baaz and john tejada excite us with an extension of their previous slices of life repertoire with 3 further timeless pieces of house music: trippy and soulful (come on kid), deep and percussive (fitzy), minimal and playful (how i used to). dana ruh celebrates her debut at slices of life with out of ada20: an upbuilding sunrise track carried by a driving beat and thrilling string lines. november 9th 2018 the 2nd part, sol10.2 will follow with exclusive tracks by dj deep, cab drivers und oscar schubaq.

peak:shift (simon flower) returns with a new ep on furthur electronix after two years since his last release on temporary state. furthur electronix are excited to release -standard candles- on the label, with four tracks of the deepest kind. all cuts were previously unreleased, and limited to 200 copies.

2018 repress - standard cover ... us born and meanwhile in berlin residing kevin mchugh aka ambivalent presents his cocoon recordings single debut. ambivalence seems to the be the musical direction here. daylights is a sheer technomonster, musclepacked and full of dark detroit flavour but the used vocal samples and the harmonic synthstrings cant hide the magic touch of daylights. although the massive techno bassline is the star of this track we are sure it will find its way into the sets of many house djs, too. in contrast to that “swung out” appears way more like pure techno and cannot be filed as house at all. we are hypnotized by the shuffled rim shots and hi hats and ambivalent drives this one straight through the dub universe. techno is the destination and the dark vibe of swung out makes it a perfect after hour weapon.

standard cover - no artwork / the original >chained to a dead camel< is a seminal track in techno history, and is still being championed by many djs worldwide. clouds have tuned their original to create three new, alternate works. perc completes the set with his own club-ready version.

skatebard is back on untz untz records. this time in collaborative mode with stiletti-ana to present: the finsk-norsk body language society. the short version of the story goes: skatebard and stiletti-ana meet at a party they both played at hosted by untz untz in berlin 2011. stiletti was there as part of the duo jesse. a drum machine gets a skate signature on it at the end of the night. jesse remixes skates confirmation bias track for untz untz in 2013. fast forward to 2017 and here we are with the deal that was unknowingly signed in 2011 fulfilled. this record was recorded, mixed & dubbed live straight to a two track stereo tape recorder, during a fine january weekend in 2017 at stiletti’s haista ii studio on the island suomenlinna outside helsinki. we hope you like standard moderne, a moderne standard.

crimes of the future rounds off the year in fine style with an absolutely essential ep from twins. 3 moody us house cuts straught out of atlanta and a sublime deep remix from label boss scott fraser. opening up with cause of dissociation, a slice of banging chicago house that would not have been out of place in the hands of mike dunn at the warehouse. rattling drums amd percussion a cut up vocal and a killer bassline make for dancefloor devastation. next up -you take too- takes things a little deeper, maintining the groove with chicago inspired percussion and filtered drums and stabbing synths grooving the track along. over on side b scott fraser takes -you take too- on to 5am on a dark smoke filled dancefloor, with a deep bassline and soaring strings. adding additional percussion, keys and swirling echoes... could be the sound of a lost nu groove classic. finally things close out with -a way from now- with more chicago inspired goodness with a funky bassline, pumping percussion and eerie ethereal keys rounding the ep off in fine style.

the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

vessel returns to left_blank with 3 tracks of mind bending house & techno for the labels 5th release. after inaugurating the label almost a year ago with his critically acclaimed nylon sunset ep, vessel aka sebastian gainsborough went on to release a sold out split cassette with fellow left_blanker el kid, and a stunning digital only set for a future without. as a result of this the all conquering tri angle records snapped him up in early 2012 to release his debut album. this eps title track standard spans the length of the a-side: 5 minutes of low-slung, smacked out death disco, coming over like john carpenter meets newworldaquarium, pure valium vibes. merge on the b-side is positively sprightly in comparison, all rattling and metallic before a drop at the halfway point brings a welcome dose of detroit influenced machine funk. zero closes the ep in abstraction, whirring and stumbling along while showcasing sebs intricate sound design, a teasing glimpse at what is in store for his album later in the year.

standard fair was born in 1980 in sapporo, japan, and played the bass in a punk band until he was 20. he is very influenced by various genres of music but now he produces sophisticated deep house. after some excellent releases on resopal and little helpers he returns on joyfull with some great dance tracks.
ep includes 2 remixes produced by someone else (the philadelphia based dj and producer, co-founder of the tuning spork and fuzzy box record labels and owner of little helpers) and aldo cadiz (one of the leading producers of electronic underground in chile and one of the most respected djs in south america).
