manana presents a new remix ep bringing together some essential re-works of sound species and ache meyis collaboration recordings. originally recorded in 2016 in santiago de cuba during the lead-up to the manana festival in the city, the original sessions were an inspired fusion of ache meyis deep folkloric afro-cuban styles with sound species subtle electronic touches. the new re-works have attracted some familiar names from clubland: broken beat don ig culture keeps the roots of ogun meyi meyi intact with a bass-heavy, percussive attack brilliant uk drummer and producer tom skinner strips back egrem bata jam on a pulsing new version chicago legend ron trent creates a more melodic dancefloor re-work of alinas calypsos while sound species themselves beef up the original afro-haitian rhythms of the same track for a dubbier treatment.

neil landstrumm began producing in the early 90s after moving to edinburgh from inverness. initially producing within a variety of groups often with christian vogel, he began his solo production in 1993 influenced by the sheffield school of bleep as well as electro and miami bass. landstrumm s unique sound soon caught the ears of a wide variety of some of the worlds finest electronic labels and he went onto record for tresor and planet mu as well as his string of ep s and album for peacefrog. his playful sense of humor and penchant toward unpredictable song structures and bizarre sounds have continued to offer humour in a world often dominated by serious minimalism. threesome features landstrumm s three peacefrog ep s originally released between early 1995 and 1996. highlights include the minimalist chicago jack track takks, dancefloor destroyers such as swing / jerk and blam the target, along with the off kilter raw stomping funk of sniff and destroy. to this day landstrumm remains one of the true innovators in uk techno.

coming off the acclaim of pablo — designated by pitchfork as “best new music” and a candidate for the song of summer 2018 — greene drops a three tracker for ghostly’s spectral sound imprint that finds him in fine form.

following the success of the first treasure dub album, a second volume was hastily assembled. repeating the formula of the previous collection, the set featured 12 hard and heavy dub tracks that utilised some of duke reid’s most celebrated rock steady and reggae rhythms. as with volume 1, the musicianship from tommy mccook & the supersonics and mixing skills of ace treasure isle studio sound engineer, errol brown combined to create one of the finest dub lps of the mid-1970s.

kawuku sound is the coming together of uk producers contours & cervo and ugandan percussion troupe fonkodelis arkestra. this is the culmination of a month-long creative process that was born out of the nyege nyege affiliated boutiq studio in kawuku, kampala - uganda. the music was written and recorded in this shared residency space, home to musicians and visual artists from all over east africa and beyond, and a hub for kampala s underground electronic music scene. boutiq studio s diy mentality provided the perfect environment for experimentation, allowing the fusion of these disparate sounds. kawuku sound is a reflection of this, merging the hypnotic and trance-inducing percussion of buganda drumming with elements of contemporary electronics and traditional instrumentation. this the first album release to come out on manchester imprint banana hill as they continue to push the boundaries of afro-electronic sounds.

cititrax is very pleased to announce cherskogo drive, a full length lp of 6 tracks from one of moscow’s leading underground electronic artists, pavel milyakov aka buttechno. he may not need any introduction to some but to those not in the know, he’s a unique, relatively new yet prolific musical artist who uses a vast range of instrumentation to create his sound. his music captures the listener in the most thoughtful, precise way.
milyakov makes spacious, dystopian, and wonky reflections on techno that mirror the expansive barrenness and desolation of his high rise-dominated environs. despite keeping a relatively low profile, buttechno still manages to attract significant positive attention, whether providing “spastic electronics and fireball ballistics” in one of the local boiler room event or creating soundtracks for european fashion shows. he has close ties to the area’s design and fashion scenes, and his own artwork fleshes out a singular aesthetic.

after reissuing stanislav tolkachevs masterpiece blue mood, the intergalactic research institute for sound comes back with two fresh pieces from georgian artists zesknel and irakli. following a strong start with de sounds from georgia, this new record explores a more abstract electronic music. zesknel, who is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, collaborates here with irakli on two dreamy and airy soundscapes which aspire to depict and recreate the atmosphere of the georgian capital. to do so, they asked for the help of rezo glonti who proceeded to make field-recordings in tbilisi. this work served as a base in order to create something unique and true to the city. the project is part of a sound installation which aims to blend architecture with sound. the idea of the two artists was to conceive a space where they could translate the spirit of tbilisi. inside that space will be found works exhibited by other georgian artists. and this is all part of the exhibition >lara protects me. eine georgische erzählung< at the museum angewante kunst frankfurt

having recently been remixed by radio slave, ozel ab and fc kahuna on phantasy, james welsh returns to the label with zurich/a65. anoth-er expertly executed two-track primed for the club but infused with detail and sheer personality, it further cements his idiosyncratic and forward-thinking interpretation of techno, industrial and experimental electronic styles. opening the ep, zurich takes an infectious, urgent bassline and gradu-ally expands into a weightless landscape. slowly revealing it’s rhythmic intent, it seamlessly blends a distinct melancholy with intensity, which, like the best of welshs work so far, is both wistful and physical. appropriate to its namesake, a65 sets the scene by sampling the un-mistakable sound of speeding yorkshire traffic, opening up a breathless musical autobahn, driven by luminescent synths that pulse with euphoria and energy.
