pop ambient returns. kompakts beloved series. this is our other arena of bliss, always curated and carefully compiled by label co-owner wolfgang voigt (aka gas). somber times call for more introspective sound scapes - >pop ambient 2011< continues its mission to slowly persuade its signature sound introduced over a decade ago. this year we see the series leaning towards a slightly darker complexion than its predecessors.

once again leng deliver with a lovely bit of heavy electronic stompery. tiagos >the source< goes straight for the dark end of the dancefloor and wallows in the smokey acidic enivirons of the late night moody corner ! with a punchy throbbing bass, hefty beats, tons of spacey effects and some awesome delayed hi hats to really mess your head, this is in the box for the strobe light moment. on side-b >mudds slow rave mix< turns up the acid a few notches, somehow gets even swampier in the bottom end and slightly more whacked out on the fx, add a lovely niggling synth line for a dark heavy dancefloor work out.

being one part of the dj team kassette boys, ferri borbás aka superlover is widely known as m_ferri. he was raised in berlin and after the wall came down he got musically influenced enormously by the then arising techno culture of the mid 1990ies. his early productions have always mirrored the influences of the rough, industrial and dark sounding techno sound which was brought to berlin by artist like jeff mills, laurent garnier or joey beltram. simple, radical sounding and functional: tracks like his >tanzgenerator< or >open the watergate< had shaped these asthetics into a trademark sound. his latest superlover project is slightly shifting his musical coordinates : instead of a reduced and purely funtional >m_ferri sound< his new project presents a rather emotional and energetic mix of warm sounding rhodes pianos and string synthesizers. the three tracks of the e.p. combine those sounds earworm-like to catchy melody riffs and being the metamorphosis of a new disco influenced, poppy superlover sound

a2: rejdowak (freak de philipe vs parasit remix) light-hearted pounding techno attitude with a humorous slightly ironic touch, this implements a wise smile on the faces of true electronic music enthusiasts.
b: fm melodie in e-moll (kettenkarussell notbremsen remix) kettenkarussell from weimar manage the impossible: completely transforming >melodie in e-moll< by neal white while at the same time keeping much of its spirit. they create an elegant and gentle groove which smoothly seem to transform into a hip-hop beat. well, thats not the end of the story! experimental and extraordinary.

inspired by the stripped back technical set-ups of yesteryear, mike monday and will saul present the sequence 1 ep, the product of the two artists limiting themselves to a roland 909, a korg kaos pad, a dave smith polyevolver and recording their jamming on the fly. >we wanted to inject some excitement, energy and randomness into this release, so decided to play the tracks live with mike on the 909 and keys and will on filters and effects. we had a broad idea of where we were going before we pressed record, and recorded a few takes of each track, then took the best moments from each. the big challenge was reining in the slightly chaotic recordings, but after some tweaking we found a balance between old school rawness and modern production values.<

dandy jack is well known for his multiple collaborations. its now about time to lay them down on wax.

dandy jack teams up with geneva fellows lad and quenum on the a side for what could be described as a tremendous and heavy ride into the catacombs of techno. sonja moonear has a slightly happier and smoother answer on the b side and challenges us with a long and percussive intro that leads into a melancholic twist. quenum and lad arent new to the electronic music and have been active over a decade. they have already been working together for labels like num and thema. sonja is dandys partner in crime as junction sm and ruta5s half head.

bergerac is the new record label set up by uk producer and dj red rack’em (aka danny berman) to showcase the more dancefloor end of his music productions. danny is well known for his wonky disco outings as hot coins on tirk and also his deep as hell beatdown house on untracked. his style of production and djing have recently taken a slightly more banging angle due to the influence of larger scale festival gigs such as glastonbury, snowbombing and the big chill. so it seemed like the perfect time to start a label focussing on house and techno for the more discerning dancefloor. the label artwork will feature bespoke illustrations from german artist silke eiselt of all the houses danny has lived in chronologically. how much more fucking house can you get than that? how i program is a raw, heads down, whacked out banger, which straddles the wafer thin divide between house and techno with aplomb. with a massive loud donking bass noise, seedy late night atmosphere and danny shouting about how he programs his shit - this is some freaky deaky peak time business. next up is bonn, a warm crackly rhodes driven halcyon house moment, which evokes the slightly majestic and nostalgic vibe of people dancing alone together in a hot room at the end of the night. cheering sourced directly from bonn in 1982 mixes with naive keywork and distant female chants the first bergerac ep closes with it happens to us all, which could be an ode to prematurely greying men, the onset of senility or occasional farting in public places. its definitely a prime slice of wrong house with some seriously french hi hats and dubbed out bassline action though. yes, its more syncopated than an exploding castanet factory but thats how we like that kind of funk

kenneth bagers >fragment ten (on the floor)<, with three remixes and two fragments, seventeen and twenty two of bagers various works with julee cruise, given a balearic sounding disco treatment, and two slightly bmore club treatments. less spacey and more straight ahead from the kbe.

straight from cologne, we proudly debut with our first release on technology gap 001, with some deep as its gets straight up house music acompaning your personal summer madness. anyone wondering what oliver kochs breitbandkater projects all about need only turn to the eps opening cut, >warm and wet<, wherein the cologne-based producer proclaims, >i want the best for you / so everything i do / is house music.< yep, technology gap 001 is house music all right, and a particularly fine sampling of it too. the aforementioned >warm and wet< immediately declares itself an ep high point the moment its thumping bass pulse kicks in. sleekly designed, the cut begins with a tight minimal swing that swells into a jacking house fireball while serving up six minutes of chunky chords and cracking snares. the second track, >wonder why<, tips the balance in a slightly more soulful deep house direction when monojoe spreads an exuberant vocal ove r breitbandkaters lush backing. warm chords and a sweetly grooving pulse provide a soft cushion for some old-school cymbal patterns and a radiant synth hook in the smooth stormer. adopting a slightly more atmospheric approach, with house group of the hour, morning factory winds up the ep with a trippy remix of >warm and wet< which finds kochs vocal drifting through the slow-building mix in a semi-entranced daze. lovers of classy deep house should no doubt find much to admire about breitbankaters three-tracker. go hunt, its good for you

on the lake people a relentless hard-hitting bass underpins a masterful mix of vocals, curious percussive snippets and twisted chord jabs. on a slightly deeper note, you will find the deepgital area with its deep sensuous vocals across throbbing beats

the vinyl a side of release no.002 is brought by one of the label owners himself. alex niggemann. jewels is a track that gives you the sensation or maybe a vague feeling that something wild is going to happen. alex niggemann builds up the tention slowly. with a deep beat and some ethnical vocals he combines the secrets of an ancient world with the nowadays club scene. the warm toned percussions groove at a pace that definitely makes you move your feet, then your hips follow until your whole body moves to the rythmn. with lots of athmospheric details alex niggemann has created an audio piece to start perfect open air dj sets with. listening closely to it one can determine bells, street noises, sounds of goats or sheeps and a crowd talking. these elements are floating timelessly and combine into a hypnotic wave of sounds. to create a striking dynamic the producer has used calmness within intense passages. but the slightly more suble moments soon open up and harmonic string chords form into the arrangement which are eclapsing in the vocal hook line, one can barely not memorize. after former releases at labels such as hi-freaks and kindisch the recenty formed soulfooled is proud to present this munich dj and producer team with a staggering new track, findling & lihab created a deephouse mix with ol times combining smooth vocals with raw edgy chords.

two new house tracks twisted, chewed up and spat back out on wax by marcellus pittman on his own label unirhythm. marcellus has had a great year of releases so far with his unirhythm green 12 inch and the well received ep on the fit sound label. this one is slightly smoother, jazzier, and still with that nice masculine pittman groove!

here comes edwards follow-up ep. this time he goes a slightly deeper and more direct. it might be the purest music we ve ever heard from the berlin-based producer. all the crazy clubgigs are manifested into hi music now. of course still with the classical edward style somewhere between dark minimal and trancy deephouse aesthetics. >bush of crows< is somewhat of a siginature edward track. but a very rough one this time. with a comfortable paranoia, this track unfolds itself into a little peak time extravaganza. on the flip, he cools everything down with a warm house tune called >the ghetto< and he adds a certain >blockparty romantic< to it... b2. is once again one of those more minimal edward tracks were he masters to be on point with just the core essence o sounds. edward remains a real romantic for sure...

duijn & douglas return to nowar for their second release >quiche l hik<, this time teaming up with vocalist berenice, and anonym on remix duty on the flipside. >quiche l hik< is a solid dancefloor work-out that will get you hooked from the very first beat. the rolling bassline simply sucks you into a hipshaking groove, funked up by tight oldksool tush-moving hihats. the whole thing builds up to berenices warm and sexy vocals and a most funky chord progression that will glue you to the dancefloor. this cut is a full body and soul work-out! on the flipside detroits anonym pushes it into a more throbbing affair. raw, stripped to its sexiest parts and with slightly warped chords, the remix is a sweaty and sultry groover, mentally gripping, simply good ol fashioned house! this release perfectly reflects what nowar is about, deep and raw house music.

the solid tumbling tones found on this ep are all thats needed as an introduction to these two accomplished producers latest creation. both strong forces in their own right, the pair come together once again on sweatshop to present their vision of dancefloor harmony, and mystery! sirens is the aptly titled track whose crazy vibe is encapsulated by jacking, swinging percussion, wild pitching synth stabs and a haunting soprano soloist letting loose! this needs to be experienced to be believed, but the proof will be in the dancefloor, hands in the air and minds expanded! moirae works the tension with dense filtered stabs and crisp solid state percussion, driving this deep slab of dark dance into blissful moments of release. mellow yet urgent, its a raw, purist electronic statement! joel alter also offers up a special edit which focuses the groove in a slightly more kinetic direction, with reduced, aquatic synth work and a classic club energy that makes it an ideal addition to the package.

royal oak with futuristic house sounds from one of hollands longest running house producers gerd. some gorgeous warm rhodes driven tracks with interstellar melodies. two tracks that sound like a stream of fresh air. friendly fire has an incredible drive with its warm rhodes chords and a deep sub bass. unique track that gives the traditional house ingredients a twist. vibration on the flip (which is actually a studio jam with the friendly fire parts) goes in a slightly slower house pace and is combines bleepy melodies with a deep powerful drive that reveals its nature once played out loud.

fear of flying regular leif provides the 4th release for fofs revitalised limited label. a supa slick slice of modern vocal house, priority sees leif up his game with supremely tight production, a killa funked up b-line and sensual vocal from new recruit donna lea. for remix duties we opted for the up & coming talents of young un ethyl along with production partner flori. they come up with an altogether different take, coaxing elements of the vocal into a bigger sounding deep house experience. finally we thought we opt for a little bit of a curve ball in the shape of daze maxim. upon hearing dazes installment in the excellent story series we knew he was someone we needed to get on board - here daze strolls into tough tech house territory with a groove slightly reminiscent of rick wade at his most dance floor

nice price deal !!! >a night on the wonk< is on an experimental tip with highly addictive horn and chime hooks. the gemmy remix takes the chime section, gives it some of the well known purple treatment and turns it into a highly distinctive but slightly sickly intro. i say sickly but thats perhaps because i have listened to it a lot of times in a fairly short period of time. however we are then treated to a bleepy roller with moderate variation to keep things interesting. this makes it perfect for an early set or casual listening. >detached reality< crackles its way through some haunting vocals and evil guitar riffs creating a tense but soothing atmosphere ? detaching you from reality, sinking you into your seat while your mind starts to play tricks with itself. what are we really here for?

continuing with the labels tradition of variety and impeccable standards, leena 014 witnesses another new artist joining the roster, alejandro vivanco, whos release >roots< is the perfect compliment to its predecessors. unlike the bold arrival of hermanez >necotine<, however, >roots< demonstrates a slightly more subtle entrance, with rising chords that gradually build to create a head spinning frenzy… a perfect peak time moment of madness that is seemingly never ending

another topical 12inch from the familiar sv brand, for your stylish yet sweaty boogie nights... side a: riccio remarks his own true remixing abilities with this first track on side b. distant sounds of a glittery era blend perfectly with the tricks of nowadays in a track that is as ever stopping as explosive on the floor. side b1: perfect strings and horns crescendos do the job. this should equally appeal to both straight and gay crowds... pure paradise garage in spirit. side b2: hold tight for the final surprise. yes, this 3rd track in the 12inch knocks in a rather unexpected, slightly latin flavoured intro.

saga is engineered to offer dj s the mother of all breaks, building up to a drop to match. this animal guarantees complete devastation, mercifully releasing the crowd s energy after minutes of anticipation. pyramid explores a slightly different realm of the genre, making use of dubby effects, voices mangled beyond recognition and a deep, stomping repetitiveness that will pummel listeners and dancers alike into a state of hypnotic detachment.

nice price deal !!! brooklyns these are powers are at the frontier of noise rock, and yet call back to the earliest days of industrial before its metal infusion. the trios lyrics and jerky beats let go of every musical inhibition ever invented, creating an atmosphere thats slightly sexual and always uncomfortable.

the title track (bloody hands) has a unique futuristic sparkle with plenty of funk and loads of interesting effects, characteristic of horrevorts productions. the lead and bassline build up tension throughout the track, subtly climaxing after 5 minutes with some guaranteed hands in the air action!
on the b-side we find >nymph<. this funky deep techey track slots perfectly into those hypnotizing moments of the night. quality production! the b2 is remixed by marc marzenit who captured the subtlety of >bloody hands< perfectly with his monster remix. this monster has a slightly deeper, more progressive flavor than the original yet maintaining its energy. rumor has it that the remix has been signed to secret cinemas first mixed compilation >welcome to my club< (march 2010). one impressive release from two of todays most promising producers!

with accumulated success of the first installment from us based fragmeted audio, the highly anticipated second release arrives after a brief hiatus.
featuring the title track from las kj gibbs (i.e. apendics shuffle) and remixes from berlins dilo and berkeleys j. tonnissen (i.e. davros, praxis), this release is a full-on hypnotic sensory exploit into mind twisting late night techno. kj gibbs delivers a shuffled up head-spinning funk jam laden with precise hits, live acoustic samples and heavily modulated effect work. taking a slightly deeper approach, dilo offers up a much more subtle journey through deep hazy loopy drum bits, morphed vocal hauntings and a progressive yet solid drive. completing the mix, label boss j. tonnissen kicks it up a notch with a monster low-end bassline, menacing analog synth loops, clever vocal edits and huge floor power.

scott monteith aka deadbeat is back on echocord with an absolutely killer ep. after his split ep with fenin on echocord colour this year, and his earlier ep with pole (d.p.) he is now back on echocord with his vampire ep. deadbeat is one scott monteith, a long time montrealer and recent berlin ex pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as cynosure, musique risquée, scape and spectral to name but a few. this continues in the same vain. dub is the key here and it is used with such class and insight. the flip sees a more twisted track that shows a slightly more edgy side.

adult only presents their last series of remixes originally from the catwash album, to be released at the beginning of 2010. a1 : the full side is an energetic remix of >groovabilisme< by dutch producer kabale und liebe (100 % pure, area remote). he displays his hypnotic groove in this bouncy track b1 : >lost in bucarest< remix by william kouam djoko (thirty one twenty) , who released a track on tobi neumann & onur ozers mix green & blue 2009 (cocoon) and boris werner (area remote, moon harbor). here is a sunny and tribal remix made by two of the newest talents from amsterdam. b2 > lost in bucarest< national jacking remix by phil weeks, the boss of french label robsoul. constant pressure and slightly euphoric feeling on this techy track.

the ep kicks off with the title track >we rock non-stop<. tight kick drums layered with pitched 808 subs set the basis of the track. chopped up machine and voice samples are then layered with smooth pads and delays to complete the track. the second track of the ep >solvent abuse< sees sync 24 sticking to his dark roots. distorted vocals, haunting pads, trippy sequences and dirty bass combined with rolling beats and subs!
the reverse side of the 12 inch is slightly deeper, techy affair. >chosen module< is a spacious wash of delays and pads mixed with robotic bass and crisp round beats. the final track >marios mushroom< carries on the spaced out trippy theme of the side with more spooky pads, bubbly bass lines and hypnotic rhythms.

since his last release on circus company (fleurette ccs033), djulz add been quite busy in the sutdio. he did a lot of remixes for slam on soma, matthew dear on get physical, 2000 & one on 100%, arnaud le texier on 20:20 vision and spencer parker on rekids. hes now back with a freshly baked 3 tracker called rotondo. thats also the track title of the a side. rotondo is techy and slightly dark. there you feel a constant pressure that will leeds you to euphoric pad which is just a simple saxophone screaming sample. on the b side we are getting into some naïve and housy feeling with on the road. then ideas are fishes is closing down the record on catchy vocal hook. that king of track to keep the party rolling. once again d julz delivers some great cuts that should be soon on rotondo everywhere

clone classic cuts continues to dig in the crates to bring back forgotten or obscure records from the past! this is 3 tracks by da posse (produced by hula... one of the outthere brothers... and with maurice joshua, k fingers & martell). strings & its my life are chicagos take on detroit techno... a rare release that sounds like a early derrick may record (think the dance) but maybe slightly more straight forward (as one might expect from chicago). a rare piece in house and techno history since this is one of the rare examples of a record that doesnt show the clear difference between chicago and detroit in the late 80s. this record most likely got produced within 1 year after rhythm = rhythms legendary nude photo and strings of life releases (both 87 and this came out in 88). as extra bonus track we have the groove. a phat bass driven chicago acid track that still rocks it. another fine piece of powerful dance music history back in the spot light!

the titel track rush me fuses the steinbergian house style with the lo-fi charm of the roaring 20s. it comes over slightly poppy but with a very relaxed and laid back groove. steinberg at his best! format:bs rush me remix, that has been reduced to the original vocals comes over trippy and with a good dose of bongos making it into a grooving party track. steinbergs es la vida is an elegant reduced tech house beauty. the rhythmic, percussive vocals hit on a very monotone but kicking bass line. a touch of a warm night by the sea in spain! format:bs interpretation of es la vida concentrates on the vocals and some of the percussion from the original, and combines steinbergs basics with a hypnotic synth-structure that boils up in the last third of the track until it finally explodes! all tracks arent scared to admit that theyre aiming for the peak time. 4* different styles. kick ass!

paul ritch covers the a-side with a faster paced house version encompassed in a rich background of high intensity and psychedelic notions while prompt spoils his listeners with a relaxing yet slightly trippy experience. last but not least henry saiz leaving the listener pleasantly lost in seven minutes of sheer techno heaven

tokyos kez yms follow up to his maiden yore ep, city soul, opts for a more pronounced party vibe, as evidenced by the plenitude of voices that repeatedly pop up during butterflys four deep house tracks. the material sounds of japanese producer kazuki yamaguchi puts a clubby spirit to this ep. propelled by a beautifully warm and soulful bass pulse, inner city funk grooves mightily for five blissful minutes, its rhythm bolstered by the crisp snap of the snare, the funky wah wah of an electric guitar, and the occasional interjection of a synthesizer melody. bridge to bridge quickly charts its own percolating course with the addition of a stepping disco house pulse and a male voices sleepy, off handed musings. bringing the lights down for a romantic make-out session, the sexy low tide chills the pace slightly so that spent dancers can catch their breath and replenish themselves before the next go-round. of the four tracks, the title cut grooves most powerfully in merging a rambunctious broken beat drum attack with an equally driving bass line and manic electric guitar soloing. play these jams loud.
